After a rather long break, MnP is proud to finally release the newest map in the Meat & Potatoes family:

Squatters v1.0 for Worms Reloaded and Worms Armageddon!

We really hope you enjoy battling it out on this map. It is the first MnP map designed entirely underground (cavern-style), and it's about as close to a dark-wormer's style as we'll probably ever get. The water will slowly fill up the map as you fight, so watch out!

UPDATE! Squatters is also available in Rope Shopper format. Get it here (http://www.mnpp.net/?p=323).

The official MnP Website (http://www.mnpp.net/?p=276) or on Wormgineers (http://www.wormgineers.com/index.php?page=File&id=642)

LEVEL OVERVIEW

The truth is down there...

Squatters, the first vertical cavern map from MnP, shows the visceral chain of unfortunate events that befell an ill-fated band of arctic explorers. As these intrepid worms dig ever-deeper they will soon discover two undeniable truths...

We are not alone... and we never were.

This level is a test of upward survival. Players will be virtually clinging to the walls as the bulk of the map is an open chasm. Excavation vehicles should be viewed as stair-like escape routes from the rising melt-away factor. Forked tunnels can turn from dark worm safety dens to claustrophobic poison chambers. Ninja ropes can turn haughty show-boaters into rookie trapeze artists falling to their doom. Choose your attacks wisely. Make every second count. They're coming.

INSTALLATION

Notes for installation for both Worms Reloaded and Worms Armageddon have been included in the readme file. Schemes are also included for BOTH WR and WA.

Have fun with this one guys. It's pretty tricky. We have designed it to be challenging. You will find that some areas are especially difficult to negotiate, while others are easy as pie, and that is on purpose. We think you'll like the balance that it creates.

Stay tuned for news regarding the next upcoming MnP release: Derelict! And please, don't forget to let us know what you thought of MnP's Squatters! Have a good weekend everyone.

PREVIOUS NEWS

In a shocking turn of events, Jeremy (or Clogz) of Meat & Potatoes is actually working on his next MnP masterpiece! In his defense, he's been pretty busy with his new baby.

Excuses... excuses...

And just for the record, Jer was kinda the guy who got all this MnP mess started, coming up with the ideas for Titanic and AF1 waaaaay back in the day. AF1 was entirely his own creation from start to finish, and he's also been an incredible help with a lot of the furniture featured in pretty much every MnP map ever made.

Anyway, you may be wondering: "What kind of crap name is Squatters anyway? Well we're not gonna tell you what it means. Hopefully the meaning will be obvious when the map is released. Or maybe it will be just artsy enough to evade all comprehension.

The map setting so far is staged in an ice cavern. Lot's of icework will be done, lots of drilling equipment and exploratory fixtures. Jer is making record time on this map and the screenshot here is quite outdated. The map will hopefully pay a little attention to the dark worming crowd, although the style of gameplay will be a little more hectic than your standard "dig a hole in the ground and hide".

Stay tuned and let us know what you think.

I see you use worms textures. Will you do a general set of textures, or will it match the game the map is designed for. Meaning: Will it have WA sprites for the WA version / Will it have WR sprites for the WR version?

Actually that worm there is in there only for proportions. We use both a WR worm and WA worm to check for consistencies in our maps and to maintain the right size for caves and jumps and stuff.

The Space Station map is scheduled to come out after this one - so I will start a dev thread on that after Squatters releases. I have made a little progress but not as much as Jer has on Squatters. Kinda using this time to take a break. :)

Here is the next dev screenshot for Squatters:

"The Thing from Another World"?
"Aliens vs. Predator"?
"X-Files"?

Something else that involves humans worms pitted against hostile alien lifeforms in the Antarctic?
:D

Bonz, I shoulda known u would be the one to crack the code. You are very close. But what does the words Squatters have to do with those concepts? :)

Maybe there's some icebounded alien? Do you mean the worms squatting the area? Or are they taking cover from aliens? I dunno.

I'm guessing that aliens have taken contol of a mining station in the arctic? Thus making them squatters?

Alright... well you are all pretty much on target. The title "Squatters" was actually Jer's idea and it basically follows the premise that a craft (and some unexplained tunnels) have been discovered deep in the ice. Just as an individual or group of individuals may follow the act of "squatting" on land that isn't theirs, so too has a certain cryogenically frozen "entity" has chosen to squat down in the middle of an ice cavern in the antarctic.

I like the fitting use of gradients here.

Actually Jer is going to be reworking all of the ice gradients after he finishes the overall design. He's doing the first phase of the work in Illustrator, which has pretty much the CRAPPIEST gradient control ever. He is more comfortable in Illustrator for the bulk of the work.

Fireworks allows for much more versatility and he will be massaging the gradients there.

Finally! I've been waiting SO long for this. :D

Sorry Thurbo! :( Hopefully it will be worth the wait. The screenshots thus far don't really do the map justice. It has gotten the full treatment from 2 of our 3 artists and it really shows.
