Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Well MnP is finally navigating into the deep blue waters of the Carribean. We have long planned on creating a fort style map that involved two Galleons from the 1600s (?) and have finally gotten around to it.

Actually, the idea has evolved a bit, and will most likely be a Pirate ship off the coast from an old island fort, but the fort style will still be there. The biggest issue I think we will have with this one will be balancing. The ship sure looks like it might not be a match for that fort on dry land. But we'll see.

It will give us an opportunity to create some nice coral reefs and sea fixtures (for Worms Reloaded only), and it seems that finally my long abandoned MnP map revolving around a Goonies character - One-Eyed Willy - is finally going to see the light of day. In fact, I'm planning on centering the story of this map around Mr. One-Eyed Willy himself and his unending quest for gold.

It won't make sense, but who cares! We're talking worm bones here people!!!

And with that said, here is the first development screenshot of the up and coming MnP map - Scurvy.

C'mon! We're only two guys!

And by the way, I have decided that the tutorial will be based on a certain part of this map (Scurvy). Essentially, I will be releasing the tutorial at the same time as the map itself and the tutorial will focus on a specific part of the terrain (a guard house or tower or something).

Cheer'Z man,

Thanks dude! Actually we usually just play something Standard. I think the key to most MnP maps is there shouldnt be any big weapons in it, unless you get one in a random crate.

I believe T17 should hire you MnP guys for creating new, original mission/tutorial maps. :D

Seriously, for future inclusion of MnP maps, you should really make a deal with T17 that'll give you a (at least a small) piece of the cake, after you've founded and registered an official company, that is. :-/

It sure would be nice. Unfortunately, I wouldn't have the slightest idea how something like might even be worked up.

Nice, glad to see a pirate themed map come from you! From the looks of it, the pirates died long ago, so I take it the ship will be grounded on something? Probably that coral reef. Well, I hope to see lotsa cannon balls laing around, don't want those pirates giving up without a fight.

Hahah! At this point, there are probably too many canon balls. I have to sort out a few things in the interior of the ship.

Actually, the pirates are dead... but as anyone who has seen the end of The Goonies can confirm, One-Eyed Willy's ship shall never come to the end of its voyage.

So it ain't stuck on a reef, but it sure is in shallow waters at the moment.

Here is another update for Scurvy. I had to downsize the ship by 50% for this screenshot because people are starting to take my work. Yeah... I said it. I've started registering our artwork using Creative Licenses just so there won't be any misunderstandings. ;)

Anyway, I have the entire ship nearly finished, although it has yet to fully undergo the detailing that I usually give the map at the end. So it may still change a bit. What do you think?

You mean Creative Commons licenses?

(I like CC-licensed things )

Well I have another update for Scurvy. This screenshot comes from the "beach and dock" section. Having a lot of fun manipulating the coastline and sands both underwater and above. Oh! And I finally got to do a palm tree!

Next up... the fort.

Indeed.

(How is the tutorial going though? :D)

You know... it's a lot harder to find a good item to base the tutorial on than I thought... I'll have something though..

EDIT: Actually I have decided (after much deliberation), that I am probably going to leave the HOW TO portion of the Tutorial to the pros. I have 2 VERY GOOD references that will be included in the Tutorial and will probably not be including a step-by-step guide for a specific MnP object or something. The reason is that I really can't find a starting and stopping place to do it at, since the whole map kind of grows from the last bit that I made... There is still going to be a few specific tricks that I use, but the real techniques are highlighted very well in the reference links.

In my opinion, it looks to pristine right now, but l'm sure that will change in the final version. I am sad that as a W:A user l'll be missing out on the under water art, as it really enhances the look.

I know, it really stinks. Having transparent water really allows for some cool underwater artwork.

Is "too pristine" a bad thing?

When drawing an old, unmaintained pirate ship? Yes, quite definitely.

I mean, it's certainly not a big deal, but just something to keep in mind.

Ahhh I see... Well that makes sense. Well it's gotta be seaworthy. :) But good observation.

This is set during colonial times though right? and Pirates would gain their ships by stealing them, so it is also possible that this ship is a new navy ship recently stolen by pirates.. making it logical that it would look new. This could also be its first ever battle... just saying xD

On a serious note though I really love this map, really balanced and fun to play and admire.

Some more forts maps would be great if you have the desire to make them, 90% of the forts maps out there really suck xD

Thanks JayX! Glad you like it! We were kind of shocked about the balance issues as well. I was expecting to have to revamp the whole map after beta testing it, but it turned out it worked quite nicely from both sides.

We are working on ONE more fort map this year, and we have another one planned for 2011 so far. Our next map release, though, will most likely be Jer's Squatters map as he is WAY ahead of me this time.

As a side note, Scurvy is set in the days of the East India Company in the Caribbean - so not quite "colonial", but certainly your points apply regarding the "newness" of the pirate ship. Although I think I through a monkey wrench into the mix when I stated that this was One-Eyed Willy's ship, since his was quite old in the Goonies.

Heheh...
