Hey Everyone

Before I review this game I'd like to get my facts straight about the shop in particular. Having played primarily Worms United and Worms World Party previously this is a new concept to me and I'm not sure how it works. So I understand that I earn money by playing the campaign and I use that money to buy stuff in the shop. But my question is, does this mean that, for example, a banana bomb will never appear in any crate in my games until I buy it? Also, when was this feature introduced to the series? Thanks for any help.

Not exactly. You can find the weapons and you can use them in the styles where it is previewed or the others schemes. You simply can't use the banana bomb to make your scheme until you unlock it.

Also, when was this feature introduced to the series?in PC terms this is brand new. presumably it would've been implemented in the XBLA version that this was ported from, but not owning an xbox, I can't say for certain.

In pc 2d terms it's brand new... it was in mayhem if I remember correctly.

Yes, it is in Mayhem. Although Mayhem had a much cooler shop.

The shop was introduced for the console versions. However I find it more rewarding to earn items during missions. It feels a LOT better seeing at the end of a hard mission, the weapon or utility float onto the screen that you've earned. That's just me though.

Shop was introduced in Worms 4 Mayhem which was also a PC game, so it wasn't created for console versions only. In addition, Worms Open Warfare 2 had a shop, too.

Actually, it is just like that.
Throughout all the mission you can exactly gain the amount of "money" to "buy" all items in the shop. Not more, not less.

With this "shop" it simply lets you make priorities in what to get first.
E.g. I would be annoyed if I would get hats as a reward form a mission, but here I can save all the "money" to get the weapons and landscapes first.

So there still isn't the ability to buy things without having to play the singleplayer campaign then?

No.
It's apparently a reward system for playing the trainings & missions and letting you choose at the same time.
The total amount of "money" is fixed, so finishing all missions will get you everything.

They could have also automatically rewarded you with some of the stuff after each mission, but that way you would feel forced.

What do you want to be rewarded for anyway?
Custom matches? Online matches?
That would just lead to stupid grinding and farming. (See TF2 achievements/unlocks!)

TF2 achievements is about the worst comparison you could possibly make. They revolved around doing stupidly precise and impractical stuff.

If you just got cash for the unlocks shop by playing and finishing multiplayer/online matches, then... it would encourage people to play multiplayer/online matches.

The extra missions are worth buying, two of them are revamped wa missions (rescue agent dennis and the one with the big house where you had to kill the general) they are a lot harder then the 30 other missions. I didnt finish them yet.

Both.

I don't mean to a point where it's profitable to be grinding them, but enough so that you can play solely socially without being able to unlock anything. Forcing you to play all of the singleplayer mode to get everything in a primarily-multiplayer game seems a bit... rotten.

W4M did have it, but you only got 10% as much as you would for beating a singleplayer mission, which were usually much shorter to boot. Plus, most stuff wouldn't appear in the shop until you've unlocked them through singleplayer stuff makes multiplayer coin profits somewhat useless. There's been a good few threads complaining about it before, actually.

You mean like Worms Armageddon did?

It's not like there's anything that vital in the shop.

You seem to forget that in WA there were actually more vital items to unlock by playing the campaign.

Well, the only vital items are the 6 unlockable weapons, IMO.
You don't have access to them in your schemes if you don't unlock them first.

All the other stuff is just cosmetic (hats, graves) or substitutable (maps, forts).

And it was rotten then too!

I wouldn't say revamped. More like, dumbed down, as both are stupid easy compared to their W:A counterparts. :p

Just want to correct myself here, but you actually get (roughly) the same amount from playing a custom match as you do for beating a singleplayer mission/challenge the first time or beating the Time Hi-Score in one (both 20 coins). I also seem to have forgotten just HOW useful the multiplayer-gained coins are (which is to say: very).

It's still lame that you have to unlock everything to appear in the shop first. Well, not everything, there's still a large amount of worm items and all the schemes/weapons are there, but you only start with 4 maps and none in the shop, and most of the worm items are still not-for-sale.

But point is I'd prefer if it worked more like W4's system of getting coins than WR's.
