Disappointing, buggy, needs more work.

The only thing I've actually noticed is different from W2:A is the map and scheme editor. Grenade works bad, it crawls instead of bouncing. Rope is not as bad as I expected, but you can't use the power of momentum to make your worm go farther (which is probably the biggest minus for me). Can't use the parachute while on the rope. The Worms will jump over anything, ignoring the terrain if they're climbing a slope. AI needs more work. Played for an hour and I've already found half a dozen bugs, but finished more than half of the campaign mode. The dragonball, fire punch and prod are severely underpowered, cluster bomb is a tad overpowered. Other weapons work more or less fine, but the termites are kinda useless. Haven't tried the ferrets yet.

Also, can I stop being watched now? I can't vote in polls.

I voted for "Great". Even though there are definately aspects of the game I don't like it has already absorbed five hours of my life without me noticing the time which is a very hard thing to do to me in the present day.

It's a 2D Worms game and they never change that drastically which is a good thing I think. My main bugbears are the lack of AI opponents in multiplayer, the random map generator being seemingly simplified since that of Worms World Party (you have to constantly tell it you don't want cave maps, why can't it be completely randomised?) and there are nowhere near the number of customisation options I'd expect from a Worms game. As someone who still plays Worms United I can confirm that it has ten times the options that this game released fifteen years later does.

However I'm confident that Team 17 will build on this solid foundation and continue to improve the game in a number of ways. I'm definately glad I bought it and would certainly recommend it to Wormers unless they're the type who want a remake of the original Worms Armageddon.

overall? great worms game, but the general UI needs improvement.

the gameplay is top notch and I love it. most of the physics work well, and largely it's fun. the Rope can be a bit dodgy at times and the fire physics make napalm weapons nigh unusable. The new heavier physics take some adjusting to, as grenades fall nearly straight down all the time, explosions send worms almost nowhere, and firepunch/dragonballs have a very limited tossing distance. basically everything in the game feels heavier than previous worms PC titles. not necessarily a BAD thing, just takes some getting used to.

multiplayer without a chat lobby is awkward as hell, multiplayer with in-game VOIP is annoying as it's always on whether you're aware of it or not. Star Worms, for instance, has some sort of bug where he echoes other peoples' voice chat despite his complete lack of a mic.

the HUD is literally painful to crawl through, as it was definitely intended to be used on a console game and T17 decided not to change it. it's extremely irritating, ugly and causes physical pain to my eyes if I'm trying to do anything with it for extended periods of time.

overall? fun once you're in a game but a pain in the ass until then. every aspect of it is littered with various bugs, but none of them so far are game-breaking. In fact, they're largely ignorable with a couple of exceptions (like a bug I have where my camera picks a random spot to show every time someone shoots).

overall? 7/10 so far and I'll hike that up to a 9/10 when they fix everything. good fun, but nothing near perfect.

[QUOTE=CakeDoer;727517]Can't use the parachute while on the rope./QUOTE]

I'm sorry but this is incorrect. I have been beta testing this for a while now and I am 100% sure that my fellow testers have launched themselves into the air only to whip out that chute and softly land on the ground. I personally have never done it, but I promise you that you can do it.

It is fun but there are major issues. Here are mine:

No rope knocking!!!
You can't view your weapons during another player's turn!
The rope physics are terrible.
No hotkeys for weapons!
You can't select chute while on a rope!
Only FOUR worms per team!!!!
The chat is awful, needs the option to pin it.

That's all I can think of for now.

Check your Steam voice settings.what do you mean check my steam voice settings? I've got those set up to work swimmingly. I play TF2 and Alien Swarm happily all the time. it's not my settings that are bonkers, its everyone else's. I chatted numerous times without issue, but most people don't have a mic, and it filters in random static or echoes whatever is played through their speakers. that's not an issue on my end, it's an issue of T17's laziness.

and speaking of laziness, I've noticed that the hotkey buttons that we're trying to use? the F buttons? the only ones mapped are the old ones. T17 didn't even bother to map the new ones, or come up with a sensible layout. I realize that this was just a port, but come ON!

Yes, it was changed in one of the last beta builds. I've reported it.
No rope knocking!!!
According to the BillT17, the community manager, it does work, but needs a certain angle and velocity for it to happen.
You can't view your weapons during another player's turn!
Yes, that is by design and won't change.
The rope physics are terrible.
This is your opinion.
It's a new engine with new, more accurate physics, so they definitely don't feel like in WA anymore.

But far away from terrible!
You obviously never played any of the hand-held Worms versions. The rope there was basically just a stick.
No hotkeys for weapons!
Only the classic weapons have their classic hotkeys.
All new weapons that haven't been in WA/WWP don't have an F-key (yet).
You can't select chute while on a rope!
Yes, this has been changed in one of the last beta builds and I've reported it, since you can do so when on the jetpack.
You can however select and use the parachute when detaching from the rope.
Only FOUR worms per team!!!!
Yes, this is by design and you knew that before you bought the game.
The chat is awful, needs the option to pin it.
Ehrm what?
The chat box is filling half of the screen. Why would you want to pin it?

In fact, I've never used the pinning function from the WA betas, because in a turn-based game, you have more than enough time to read in between your turns, even in your own turn.
Heck, I've even been typing short comments in WA while I was flying during roping!

I've played WA and WWP for nearly ten years, and unlike many other people who've posted about Reloaded, I'm not a proper or a shopper, but a normal-gamer.

Having downloaded it this morning and had a go, my first impression is one of disappointment. I know I'm biased because of how used I am to the good old versions, but I found the game lousy. I'm actually wondering why this game was even made, given the way WA has been updated so many times and so well.

Here's what I think Reloaded should've been: a clone of WA/WWP with revamped gfx and a new weapons/tools inventory. The new weapons could've been chosen from here:

Yes, that is by design and won't change.

That is bizarre. This is a strategy game so why won't they allow us to devise our strategy for the next turn when we're not playing? That's an amazingly awful design choice.

You can mute people ingame if that becomes an issue.

Very disappointing.

Why don't you simply release the latest WA on steam ? That would be an ideal solution. The last time I asked this I got attacked for suggesting steam at all for any worms game yet now with WR you have somehow embraced it.

Feels like a sped up, dumbed down, cut down, worms with fancier graphics. You can clearly also see it's not been exclusively made for the pc ( eg. the mahoosive weapons menu instead of a small one like it used to be and extremely simplified overall menu's and removal of a normal game browser for online games).

Why can't you scroll during the 5 second '' are you ready'' period ?
Why can't you check your weapons menu during the other players turn ?

I just posted my review of this game online and STEAM decided to break the game for me so I have had no option but to score it like I did.

I was very suprised by the game. I find it amazing! :D
I find it great on all levels, but the menu could be changed a bit. And the chat menu... or is there a button to open/close the chat menu ingame? it's very annoying to open the menu first and then select the chat menu when you're in a hurry :/

Fantastic, aside from the already mentioned slight UI problems. A bit tricky to navigate now and again, but the game itself is great.

The button, by default, is the ` key (the key to the left one the 1 key). You can change this key in the options -> controls menu.

You can press esc to close the chat window.

OK, I'll try to find the sweet angle.

I guess it will take some getting used to. I actually kinda like the grenade physics but the rope...

But far away from terrible!

You're right, I never played a handheld version. I tried some 3D ones years ago but stuck with Armageddon - which is almost perfect in my opinion.

Only the classic weapons have their classic hotkeys.
All new weapons that haven't been in WA/WWP don't have an F-key (yet).

I hope this will be addressed.

Yes, this has been changed in one of the last beta builds and I've reported it, since you can do so when on the jetpack.
You can however select and use the parachute when detaching from the rope.

That may be so but it's not ideal. What if you fall a small distance (enough to hurt you but not enough time to select and use the chute)?

Yes, this is by design and you knew that before you bought the game.

Actually no, I didn't know that. I knew there were 4 teams max but I didn't know there were only 4 worms each. A lot of people love to play 8 worms per team matches on big maps. 4 is simply not enough and I don't understand why there isn't the option to have 8, or even 6, if you wish.

Ehrm what?

I would like a much smaller chatbox that could be pinned. I hate the huge clunky console-looking thing. In W:A I always have it pinned small during other player's moves, then I hide it during my go for optimal roping.

You can mute people ingame if that becomes an issue.so I was made aware on another thread. there should definitely be a label somewhere noting that in the game. I've never known an instance where I've had to interact with those settings at all, and I imagine most others haven't either. the fact that a fix is there is great, less work for T17, but we do kind of need to be aware that the fix is available and how to implement it. a warning page on our voice chat menu would be great.

I've found that I generally have success if I let myself slide on the ground a little before impact. If I fly into the worm from the rope I bounce off of him, but if I touch the ground first I slide into him and push him along.

I have noticed that a worm tossed by an explosion will bump other worms if he slides into them. Just haven't managed to do it myself from a rope yet. I've plopped myself several times while attempting to do a W:A style rope knock in places where I would not have plopped in W:A.
