Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but there's nowhere else in the Forum (or, as far as I can tell, on the Internet) to ask the question.

Not that I'd imagine anyone else has got/played Nightlong either, but hope springs eternal.

CD2.

I'm in the HIDEOUT. I have achieved all the objectives and got all the items I can get so far (seriously; I have picked up everything that's not screwed down). I now need to use the TORCH (made via MATCH/BROOM combination on the (fire-detection) SENSOR. As I remember correctly from my first time playing through the game, this should work (it makes the alarm go off a second time). However, it doesn't work - or, more accurately, it would work if Josh actually did use the TORCH. He just doesn't. He says, "that's not a great idea" (his usual replacement for don't-use-that-item-here).

Got any ideas? I am completely stumped! Looks like a bug to me, insofar as I can remember exactly what I did first time around - and using the TORCH at the moment is the only thing left to do!

[EDIT: Oh, and before you ask, I got past the SPHINX bug perfectly okay, so that's not the problem I'm encountering. The HIDEOUT is well after that part of the game.]

I have only played the game for a bit in the apartment at the beginning, so I can't really help you out.

What I read in these walkthroughs, you seem to have constructed and used the torch correctly.

The only thing I could imagine is that you maybe have forgotten to rewire the the wires in that control panel beforehand, or maybe it's possible to do it in the wrong position.

A lot of adventure games just return the generic answer if something if you've forgotten something to do and things don't work.

Yeah, it's annoying because I have the torch AND I've rewired the control panel (because I knew to do that).

It won't work, basically. There's probably something wrong with the CD, or the game doesn't like it when you have items in a certain order in your invetory or somesuch. I think I need a savegame to get past it!

Solved the problem - I was trying the wrong fire sensor. D'oh!

I've now completed the game. That's the first time I've done so since I was about... 16ish?
