Hi there.

As a big fan of Worms since my years as a teenager I had and do have lots of fun with Worms 2: Armageddon on Xbox 360.

Now that the awesome Battle Pack has arrived and it's pretty clear that a huge part of Worms Reloaded on PC seems to be exactly the same as Worms 2: Armageddon I am asking myself if I should buy my first PC game since several years and my first game on Steam ever. Are the differences/improvements of Worms Reloaded worth buying a new game?

Difference I could spot in the trailer so far:

Choice of active Worm as a weapon seems to be in there (yeehaw!)
Cartoonish Words during explosions (great!)
full-featured Level Editor
new customization options/equipment for Worms

Are there new/additional weapons? Is the old granny back?

Please add to this list to convice me to buy this title. ;-)

Greetings,
Trav

The level editor seems as noobish as the old versions. You would have thought they would have done alot more to it and make it look a bit more professional.

2(for now) new weapons....
* The Termit: something like a Molex3, it appeared on the trailer
* The Meerkat: they can climb mountains and walk upside down

The level editor is an amazing tool and we really spent time making sure it gave players just what they wanted. What you see in the trailer is a very small slice of what it can do.

What a highly stupid comment.
Do you think T17 implement a second Photoshop in there?
Everything better than MS Paint is actually a gift.

Perhaps. But i still think the trailer showed it to be very crude at least the way u showed in it. If it still has them very limited drawing options then i duno i just expected it to be a little more advanced in the drawing tool area as worms never had it that good thats why alot of maps are made in photoshop as you just cant create really nice and well layed out ones with the default editor.

Tho i duno if you say its better then i will give the benefit of the doubt. But with the tools i saw on it it just looked like a actually cut down (slightly) version of the editor from WA.

First, those weapons already are in XBox version and second, those aren't "meerkats" but ferrets.

As for the level editor: It can do a lot more than the one in WA/WWP. There's certainly more than only one brush and it can even be used to create own schemes since worms, mines, sentries etc. can be placed exactly wherever you want (no more noobs that place their worms at the wrong place in rope races :p)

Yep....but, in the other hand....they will place your worms hugging a sentry-gun in their games xD

That last happened to me in OW2... I let one of my friends create a map, and when we started playing my whole team died because he placed all my worms on a mine...

We sure need people who're more serious online.

Are there Line tools and snap to grid etc.?There's a Line tool from what I can spot in the trailer. It seems to have all the tools in W:A plus a bunch more, though I can't really tell what they do by the icons.

Anyone know how the skirmish mode will play out?? Never ending re spawning Worms won't make it like real time instead of turn based??

Yea, it's quite simple. You start with one worm with a certain amount of hps. At the beginning you face 4 CPU controlled worms which you have to kill. If you killed one foe another one will plop in at a random point of the map. Their energy increases slowly; the first ones got only 10 hps and the more you kill the more energy the following enemies will have. next one's got 20hps, the following 30hps etc.

Of course the enemies also try to kill you, so you sometimes should try to hide yourself. Your amount of weapons and tools is limited so you should think of tactical moves too. If they got you, the game is over. The death of your own worm is the only way to get results since the streak of hostile worms is endless.

Once the game has ended, you'll see your score which will also be uploaded to the rankings. Makes competitions between you and some friends possible :)

For now it seems as if Worms Reloaded is almost the same game as W2:A on Xbox360 with the Battle Pack.

As I do already own that version and there are still some game-breaking bugs in it which haven't been fixed and because I don't want to play the same campaigns all over again to unlock the same items in a more or less identical PC version I deciced not to pre-order.

I am looking forward for your first reactions after the game has been released and if there are more differences/additions than we know now I would be glad to hear.

Haha, and this is why I have no interest in multiplayer and haven't in twenty years of gaming. It's fun if you're playing with people you know are in it for good honest fun but otherwise... it's not for me.

Actually what I'm really looking forward to in this Worms game is the new AI. From Worms United to Worms World Party the AI was basically incapable of finishing a game by itself if you happened to get wiped out. As I'm sure everyone here knows, they would attempt to shoot each other through the terrain with bullet weapons which was just painful. I'm really hoping this AI is capable of doing great things and I'm also really excited about the different "styles" like Darkside.

EDIT: It's half eleven at night here in Scotland just now and yes I am waiting until midnight in the vain hope that the game will be released haha. I'll also be reviewing it within a week or two of its release.

Expect it more in late afternoon or early evening. It won't be unlocked until a Valve employee does it, and they all live in USA. Also, they need to sleep at night.

Or they just set a scheduler program on a computer to unlock it at a specific time.

Oh yes, I actually prefer playing with my real life friends around me. It increases the fun a hundred times :)

I really worry about the AI though... Hopefully it works as in Space Oddity or is whole new, because the one in Open Warfare 2 was almost useless. The hardest level "Strategic" was almost the easiest because they kept laying dynamite/mines and just stayed there and blew up themselves. Also, they didn't care for crates even right beside them unless they used items like teleporter, parachute, ninja rope and jet pack. Yes, they were in fact able to use the rope... but only in caves and quite rarely. The only AI that didn't manage to do superhuman shots was "Stupid". And to defeat "Stupid", you only had to be at a high place and wait. They'd have killed themselves sometime anyway.

If anyone of you has pre-purchased Worms Reloaded and also knows W2:A: Please add to the differences (if any)!

Thanks,

I don't think there are any differences between Reloaded and W2A with the Battle Pack, except more customization in Reloaded. Gameplay-wise, there's no differences, weapons are the same, same engine, etc.

I haven't bought it, but judging by the trailers and all the released info...

But what e.g. about the Worm Switch "Weapon" you can see during a scene in the official trailer on Steam? Is it really in the game? Maybe there are more items which are in Reloaded but missing in W2:A?

That's an option that you have to enable. If you already have W2A for XBLA, this is not worth getting.

At least I wouldn't. I'm not that of a die-hard Worms fan.
