View Full Version : New maps?

Hoho!

There once was a thread with map packs! I picked the best maps out of it and now I'm asking myself, are there more selfmade maps somewhere?

I'd appreciate it very much :)

Greetings

Wmdb is fairly spam-filled and poorly run in my opinion. Homebreworm had a better system going, but it's kind of dead now..

I'd love to be involved in a tightly-run map site with in-depth moderator reviews, well thought out categories for rating and awarding and a filtering system to ensure that only maps of a good standard were published there...Maybe I'm just dreaming, but if anyone else is interested in setting up a "Good-maps-only" site along these lines, let me know.

Not to "plug" myself, but have you seen our MnP maps for Worms Armageddon?

You can get them at http://www.mnpp.net

Yeah check out the MnP stuff, it's awesome. =D

Well that's what I was looking for! Thank yo very much :)

Both sites are quite good :) The maps from MNPP are more fascinating though ^^

Edit: Damn what about those Titanic A-C and E versions without colours! Damn it :(

Sometimes I have to select "Set colours to 112" ingame when loading a custom map! I wanted to bypass that by going down to about 60 colours in Irfanview! But when I do, the background is black and worms can't be deployed there. What happened?

How can I bypass these problems? :)

Thanks Metacooler! Nice BTS website btw. Very unique user interface.

d3rd3vil, I am not sure how you do it - it's been a while since I exported one of my maps for Worms Armageddon. I know that I use a limited palette, not even approaching 112. That way I can still use all the background effects and stuff. Please refer to this site for specific details about the color limits in W:A:

http://worms2d.info/Colour_map

Oh! And thanks for your compliments regarding our maps. Titanic A, C, and E will likely NEVER be recreated in color, since both Titanic B and D were always really the levels that we most played - even back in Worms 2. The Next Gen maps took those old color W:A maps and brought them to life since we no longer had map size limits.

Our current project, Feud, will probably be completed some time this summer. The next project on the list is Alcatraz. So, no more Titanic for a while. Actually, Titanic E is pretty well represented in Last Resort. Same concept of low-lying boats with limited fire power.

Our website will be updated some time in the future. There are big things in the works for MnP and 2010 might be agood year!

Yeah thank you! I am able to decrease the colours but then the background is black and I can't place my worms on the map anymore. It's a black box after the colour change, it's useless :( What can I do?

Any transparency problems?

Are you SURE the background on your image is 100% black? And where are you decreasing the colors? In the image editor?

You may want to attach your in-work map here so others can understand a little better what you are trying to do.

Some image editors will drop the color black (#000000, rgb(0, 0, 0) ) in the palette when processing certain images. You have to manually add the black color into the image palette and re-dither the image using the new palette.

The guide in WKB should have told you this, if you read it carefully.

@d3vil

The easiest thing to do is completely make you map in whatever editor it is you use, save it in 112 colours (This is my preference, everyone that I know plays with a black background anyway, and it raises the quality of the map itself) and then go into MS Paint, pick a random colour that isn't already in your map, fill the entire "Empty" space with this colour, then fill it again with black. Save, and go. Paint always keeps it's true-black

Well this is the regular map with about 250 colours:

This is the version with 112 colours and an unusable, black background:

I downloaded your 112-colour version, just to make sure there wasn't any other issues that would stop it from working. It's fine, just follow my above instructions and it works perfectly.

Good ^.^

Can I ask what scheme that map is meant to be played with? It's not bad, by the way =p

PS: Quick heads-up, you've left some little bits of white background between the legs of three of the jumping-tank-things! D:

The eraser tool in MSPaint will be helpful here, right-clicking the area with the tool will replace the foreground color in that area to the background color.

Perhaps the fastest method is to use TreakPNG (http://entropymine.com/jason/tweakpng/) to alter the palette directly. No filling will be required.

I use Adobe Fireworks to micro manage the palettes that I work with.

Yeah, my way may seem a little bit roundabout, but there's a reason ^.^
Often when you cut and paste a piece of a PNG image into another PNG image (Such as if you were making a map with sprites) the area that you selected around the image will be degraded to a seperate shade of black. These black halos are also "unusable". By using the unique-colour-fill method, the black halos are revealed when you do the fill, and you can then fill them individually with your chosen colour, then switch to true-black and do one fill that covers the entire intended "empty space".

I knew that case already. The fault belongs to the dithering engine, not the image. It often occurs when the palette has too many colours that look like black (#010101, #020202, etc.).

Yah, I use the dithering engine in Fireworks as opposed to the Worms Armageddon built in one. I like it better.

Oh well thank you :D Deleted the map though cause of the bad background colours...it's just flickering in bad red colour :(

And to your question, it's a special max scheme! Lots of weapons and big maps played in teams! 2on2, damn it's great :D

Better than this wxw or rope or shoppa **** ^^

I have another question :)

I download my maps on wmdb.org and then resize them for my purposes.

When I do that with Irfanview I always have to save these png files with transparent colours otherwise it's just a big block where my worms can't spawn.

When I do that it often works fine. But sometimes the background looks grainy. Normally in the background there are clouds and other stuff and sometimes the background looks bad and grainy.
Thats when I have to make the background black in order for me to play properly.

What can I do about that? I want a normal looking sharp background :)

Hopefully you can help me with that!

Thank you

Did you set the landscape theme for your map? This will give the map a good background, theme, etc.
Also, on a map below 64 colours there are no glitches of the background, etc. :)

Thanks for the answer :)

How do I do that in Irfanview? Setting a landscape theme?

Edit: You are right. With 64 colours it works fine...mhh

Oh and also when I save a map with transparent background I have to select the black background. Then the map doesnt work. After saving the map AGAIN it works. What the hell is IrfanView doing?

This is done in W:A map editor. Open your map in WA, then near the bottom left you will find an icon with the landscape theme. Change it to anything you feel is good, and then save the map again (from the map editor), if needed.

As about color limitations, read this (http://worms2d.info/Colour_map#Colour_limitation).

Mhh well ok. The landscape thing in Worms doesn't work though. The background then changes but is always grainy and bull**** for the eyes :)

64 colors fixes that so I have to do that for all the maps :)

Oh by the way is there a possibility to widen the spawn points a little bit? On some maps the worms spawn in the middle and the edges are empty.

no, you can't. that depends on the map itself, and how many pixels is left for worms (also slopes, etc).
