First off a quick note
Steam ID's are used by servers to determine if you have a game.
They are in this format STEAM_X:X:XXXXXXX Where as X is the number generated for your account.
if you already have a steam account skip to part 2
Now for the guide
Part 1
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/public/images/btn/SteamInstall/btn_getSteam_english.gif (http://storefront.steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.msi)
Register via the Steam Client.
Its not mandatory. But its nice to see you have a game in your profile so....
Now to get a free game you must own a Nividia Card
Go Here
www.steampowered.com/nvidia
ATI users go here
http://www.steampowered.com/ati_offer1a/
Then setup your steam account By going to Community Then control Panel.
After that enter the details AND REMEMBER TO FILL IN CUSTOM URL.
Also It is important you set it to PUBLIC.
IT WILL HELP YOU. Make sure to remember the Custom URL
Part 2.
Tutorial:
Go to http://www.steamcalculator.com
Enter your Custom profile URL or Profile ID.No you dont enter password so its safe
Look for these details
Account Information

* Username: example
* Profile ID: Example
* Custom URL: Example
* Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:example

Then add a new line saying Country:Example

it should look like
Account Information

* Username: [psy]Globalnet
* Profile ID: 76561198009068775
* Custom URL: psyglobalnet
* Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:24401523
* Country: USA
Then email in to the designated email address in the group.
http://steamcommunity.com/games/wormsreloaded

I also suggest you join the group. To do this login via browser using that link and click Join.

Explanations
Custom URL So you can customize your URL instead of numbers.
Ex:http://steamcommunity.com/id/psyglobalnet/
it would look like: http://steamcommunity.com/id/youridhere/
Profile ID: Is the original URL, It is also used for other purposes
Ex:http://steamcommunity.com/id/76561198009068775/
Username: Obvious.

There is a lot more easier way to get your Steam ID:
When you are ingame (CS:S, Team Fortress etc.) just type "status" into your console and then your ID will show up. ;)

EGJ, believe it or not every Worms player has Source engine games installed and the steamcalculator.com method is actually quicker since you don't have to launch any game.

EGJ, believe it or not every Worms player has source games installed. Both methods are pretty easy anyway.

Well I haven't read through your complete post.
OK, then we say it's an alternative way. :p

How is taht easier?

All you have to do is put your PRofile ID and click calculate

and BAM there is your ID
instead of going ingame
going to a server
and typing status.

I thought it is more complicated/difficult because there was so much text. xD
But how I said above: It is an alternative way.
