Someone said they're posting the entire chat log. I took the dev answers on their own though. Most of them have context and where they haven't I've put it in myself using square brackets. Many smilies removed to adhere to image limit. Enjoy. (Full chat log here (http://www.kutaghs.co.cc/WRBC.txt) courtesy of kutagh)

16:07 - kelauce: weapon window - nope that wont be changing but F-key shortcuts are in and working

16:07 - kelauce: your phone is in your bedroom, under your bed

16:07 - kelauce: we are going to look into having a Wormnet style lobby for viewing online games

16:07 - Shteamy Bruce: Feel like W:A - We're making various tweaks to get the game more akin to feeling more like W:A

16:08 - kelauce: shopper and race modes will be available

16:08 - kelauce: you can create your own schemes (will be able to in the full version)

16:08 - Shteamy Bruce: The Rope will be tweaked yes to feel more like W:A

16:08 - kelauce: beta is multiplayer only

16:09 - kelauce: yes, online multiplayer sorry

16:09 - kelauce: it will be limited to 4 players in a match

16:10 - kelauce: 6 is a little high for the map sizes

16:10 - kelauce: there wont be another beta wave (as in new testers), but we will have another beta build hopefully next week

16:13 - Chuckles: There is no LUA in WR - Sorry Gran PC

16:12 - Shteamy Bruce: yes in steam [regarding the release of the full game]

16:14 - kelauce: cost and pre-order - thats still being discussed internally

16:14 - kelauce: oh and Chuckles is T17,sorry missed you there Chuckles is a senior coder here

16:14 - kelauce: the beta test will go on for another 4 weeks

16:15 - kelauce: the price wont be as high as that [50 euros]

16:15 - Shteamy Bruce: Yes Jay Waters [did the music composition] - that is right

16:16 - Shteamy Bruce: [he is] Our in house Audio specialist

16:16 - Chuckles: Gran PC -> we needed a scripting language because the single-player campaign was far more complicated in 3D.

16:17 - Shteamy Bruce: Yes you can customise [worms]

16:18 - Team17 Admin: 6 players will not be an option for launch

16:18 - Shteamy Bruce: The 'test' names in the ranks are probably coders, who have tested their implementation and such

16:18 - Shteamy Bruce: not actual testers

16:19 - kelauce: t17test are some of our coders and internal QA bods

16:19 - Team17 Admin: Yes, 4 players only, we have enough problems with all the connections for 4 players

16:20 - Wormbert: Text issues are currently being addressed - we're awaiting translations for some of these

16:20 - kelauce: [regarding the lobby] its not useless, it just doesnt show all the results from Steam, if it was opened up like Wormnet it wouldnt make it anymore useful, the same games would still be there

16:21 - Kutagh: One more question: Worm select. In worms 2 you could select which worm to utilize. Are there any plans to implement that in any form or shape?
16:21 - kelauce: Kutagh yes

16:21 - Shteamy Bruce: worm select will be an option to have or not within creating your schemes

16:22 - kelauce: Gran - im not sure if its the same people who are doing these translations

16:22 - kelauce: but if any come back and you're not happy, let me know and i'll go round to their offices with a baseball bat

16:22 - kelauce: worm select will be an option, dont like it in your game? switch it off

16:22 - Team17 Admin: Acheivements should be reset after the Beta.

16:22 - Xenomortis: will the ability to import image files as maps or something similar be available? or are we stuck with the in-game terrain editor?
16:23 - kelauce: Xeno - we're looking into this, whether it happens for an update or even at all, i dont know yet

16:24 - Shteamy Bruce: the level editor will be there yes, similar to the one seen in W:A.

16:24 - Team17 Admin: We will look into russuan translation nearer launch, it depends on how big the market is to be honest

16:24 - kelauce: F4ever - it has a great level editor and there will be plenty of options for the more advanced player

16:25 - Team17 Admin: You shouldn't read too much into files you find in the game.

16:25 - Shteamy Bruce: it will be different from its current state (Level Editor) and made much more suitable to the PC

16:26 - Commander ZUN on Hakurei Beer: also please tell me you are going to make the teleporter cursor and similar stuff controllable by mouse
16:27 - Shteamy Bruce: Thats right yes Commander

16:27 - kelauce: we've had 4 player in for the whole current generation of Worms and we just haven't found the need for more, it even gets dull at times waiting for your turn to come round in a 4 player game so it'd be worse with 6

16:28 - kelauce: it has controller support for ingame

16:28 - Team17 Admin: We are commited to making 4 players work well over the network.

16:29 - kelauce: in all our hours of playing we've just never come across the need to increase the number of worms per team in this current gen

16:30 - Team17 Admin: For the last time 6 player games will not be supported at launch.

16:30 - <chill> Paul.Power: This has probably already been pointed out, but it'd be nice to be able to move the air strike, bunker buster, homing missile etc with the mouse as well as the keyboard
16:31 - Shteamy Bruce: Paul Power - Yes, you wil be able to use the mouse

16:32 - Team17 Admin: Let's put it this way, we plan on supporting this game for a long time to come.

16:33 - Team17 Admin: Pre Orders will be sorted out in the next week or two

16:34 - Team17 Admin: The lobby is undergoing a number of changes especially relating to how games are listed

16:33 - Thurbo: What about changing the lobby options to how they worked in the old games? I want to choose between being the host or not
16:34 - kelauce: Thurbo - i mentioned this one earlier, we're looking into the whole matchmaking / lobby

16:35 - Team17 Admin: Mission creator is not something we are implementing for launch, but again I will say we are planning on supporting this game for a long time to come

16:35 - Team17 Admin: T17 test speechbank is adult material so will not be in the release build

16:35 - kelauce: lol admin

16:36 - <chill> Paul.Power: How about soundbanks from W3D/W4M? (I miss Welsh :p)
16:36 - kelauce: PP - im not sure if we have the same samples to cover all bases, going from the 3D ones to the OW series

16:37 - kelauce: HH - yes the campaign mode is the same as 360

16:37 - Team17 Admin: without promising anything, let's just say we are all aware of how much worms players like to mod the game.

16:37 - Shteamy Bruce: no - no joining mid game

16:37 - kelauce: GG - we can look at the team colours if there are problems with colourblind peeps not being able to tell the difference with team colours

16:38 - kelauce: you can create custom schemes yes

About creating custom schemes: Are they like in Worms 2 or are there going to be more options to be able to create custom schemes like shopper?
16:39 - Shteamy Bruce: Kutagh - Head Hunter - We'll probably discuss internally if we are to add more of the older options you speak of within the scheme creation side of things so i guess thats a 'watch this space'.

16:39 - kelauce: oh these are Steam accounts setup for WR

16:40 - Team17 Admin: Project X remake is not on the cards for the immediate future, we have too many other things on the go at the moment.

16:40 - Team17 Admin: Same answer for superfrog i'm afraid.

16:40 - kelauce: yes, the current map sizes is what will be in the final release

16:40 - kelauce: we're going to remix some of the classic WA tunes i think

16:41 - kelauce: the map size, worm size, util size, its all different to WA but they all work fine in the context of the new game

16:41 - kelauce: we're happy with how they play

16:41 - Team17 Admin: Final fantasy is not our IP so we won't be doing anything with it.

16:42 - kelauce: yeah i'll have a stab at remaking Final Fantasy for you, which one shall i do?

16:42 - kelauce: np, i'll have em ready next week

16:42 - Team17 Admin: welcome to the president

16:42 - kelauce: Kutagh, they're a mixture of puzzles and deathmatch games [regarding singleplayer]

16:42 - Team17 Admin: FFS was my fave

16:43 - kelauce: no real story as such

16:43 - kelauce: no axe im afraid

16:43 - kelauce: but lots of new weapons to the PC series

16:43 - Team17 Admin: No crashing, but lots of ignoring [regarding questions]

16:44 - Team17 Admin: We will look into doing something cool for those who preorder WR

16:45 - kelauce: yeah the pigeon was l33t

16:45 - kelauce: the beta testers will all be getting their names in the credits, so thats something

16:45 - Team17 Admin: GranPC no it doesn't, but...we love you guys so you will get something cool too [regarding testing counting as preordering]

16:46 - Team17 Admin: Cost of the game is still TBD, but when it is, we will put it up for preorder

16:46 - kelauce: Red - 300 [people in the beta]

16:46 - TG_Judgement: ya know
16:46 - kelauce: but we're considering opening it up

16:48 - Team17 Admin: We are looking at the price this next week or two, so preorder will happen then or soon after

16:49 - Team17 Admin: GetGrenade, we are considering bringing some back catalog stuff to Steam, but will be well after this version

16:49 - Shteamy Bruce: i think the Sentry Guns default at 50 health points

16:49 - Team17 Admin: I'm sure there will be a good incentive for pre ordering

16:50 - kelauce: Worms Reloaded is based on the current generation of Worms, its about getting the PC gamers a new and kick **** version of Worms

16:50 - kelauce: its based on the current console version but with more content

16:50 - Team17 Admin: Kutagh, not considered that possibility yet, let's get this one out first [regarding worms mega pack]

16:51 - kelauce: the old weapon window rocked back in the day but things have moved forwards, the new one is much prettier

16:51 - kelauce: Thurbo - you mentioned that in Mantis, we'll look into it for you [gravestones stopping uzi/shotgun]

16:51 - Team17 Admin: [release] Date depends on how the Beta goes TBH

16:51 - Shteamy Bruce: pixel.PlumbEd: No you wont, looking at your weapons window and deciding what to do is part of your actual turn;. [looking at your weapons during other people's turns]

16:54 - Kutagh: Would it be an idea to add one of the older worms games as an incentive for pre-orders? (Perhaps have multiple options in case someone lready got them)
16:55 - Team17 Admin: Kutagh, we don't have time to do that, but it's a nice idea

16:55 - kelauce: achievements - i think the ones listed at the moment are final. bring back beer - lol not, yet, maybe in a few hours. Staff - there are 12 of us
16:55 - kelauce: and 300 beta testers
16:55 - kelauce: so 312 members of staff

16:56 - kelauce: HeadHunter - there will be more to buy from the shop than on 360

16:56 - kelauce: we aim to have more content in WR

16:57 - Team17 Admin: Is there any serious questions left? nearly time to go to the pub

16:56 - kelauce: Xena - no plans for anymore of the old WA weapons but we will be bringing in new ones

16:56 - Shteamy Bruce: yes Zun [ingame currency]

16:57 - kelauce: if you save up enough coins in the game then you can have a date with Wormbert irl

16:57 - Wormbert: ...

16:57 - Team17 Admin: White Lion is a great local pint

16:57 - kelauce: beer? im a fan of Sol
16:58 - kelauce: we've been looking into moddable soundbanks internally this past week

16:58 - kelauce: it may happen, it may not

16:58 - kelauce: certainly wont be for launch anyway

16:58 - kelauce: as Admin said, we will be supporting it post release

16:58 - Shteamy Bruce: i think that about does it?

16:58 - Team17 Admin: Thanks to Shteamy Bruce, Kelauce and Wormbert and thanks to you lovely worms players, we will do this again soon

Unfortunate for anyone hoping for all (or some/more of) the old WA weapons to happen back into the massive arsenal that exists in Worms games. Oh well! Either way, it'll be a blast, and definitely pre-order worthy.

Here's hoping for some player count bolstering after release, though. Beating out three of your friends doesn't exactly have the same power as beating five. :D

Awesome. So there would be the opportunity to play with the people you want

16:14 - kelauce: the beta test will go on for another 4 weeks

As I supposed on another topic! Yeyyyy

16:15 - kelauce: the price wont be as high as that [50 euros]

O_o...50 euros? But usually Worms Games haven't come out with a price less than 10 € so far or am I too little retarded?

Oh god damnit, why does this kind of thing have to happen while I'm away? :(

16:13 - Chuckles: There is no LUA in WR - Sorry Gran PC

Haha, silly Gran, you actually asked them about it. :p Dang, that'd be awesome if it had proper scripting, that would give a lot of potential for weapons, gamemodes and missions. But I understand that a decent Lua implementation with user-friendly libraries would be quite hard to do (mostly the user-friendly part), but I'd still like to see this in some future game.

D_Wormkill
25 Mar 2010, 20:09
Kilburn, you can modify the game anyway. There would be different scripting format, like happened in W:A.
However, about maps, I've discovered a thing. The background seems in .lds format, but I need confirmation.
If someone tried to create a map in W:R has saved it, please could you tell me if your masterpiece has been saved as "Mapname".lds?

That's why I'd recommend to simply read the full chat from the log I posted.

I've read all the log, kutagh. Of course, after my answer. Yes, even the joke about Duke Nukem Forever! XD

.lds is something about linux, I've heard, but it could be ids too (more probably, seen that it's a kinda of 3d animation).
This confirms the opportunity of changing the background behind the maps with some mpeg video and, of course, a good converter (seen that the maps could be imported in future, as team17 said).

Try opening it in Irfanview.... ;)
What it seems to be is the map blueprint (purple-blue is empty, black is filled). So it only seems to be containing the map layout itself and not the graphics.

Ah, for graphics/background I don't mean the textures, but the animation behind the map (for making an example, the skyscrapers dancing in Manhattan or the floating eye in Cheese Moon). However, thanks for the advice

Still I don't think they're in the LDS files but actually done within the engine/game. I've been looking around in the folders of Worms Reloaded and got an idea of what is where.... And where I can alter the weapons

LDS sounds like "Landscape" to me, it's probably a Team17 specific format.
Shouldn't we talk about that kind of stuff in the private forum though?

Nice one, Kutagh. So, for happyness of Kilburn, weapons could be modified. =D And there must be some folder like usermap, savedlevels or something else.

PS: No, I'm not in the beta, but I fou*coffcoff* the for *coffcoff* of bet *coffcoff*. Since some stupid ones make some steam group indicating with link things they hadn't to....lol. Fortunately, people corrected the mistake, but too late.

Yeah, maybe (for sure) you're right. But I saw some picture somewhere that show the textures and the map layout are in 2D. So, in every case, they can be modified externally. I'm afraid you can't simply import a bmp map however. You'll need TGA this time and I know some helpful programs (Photostudio, TGA tools, Photoshop). That's my opinion.
But are you in the beta, kilburn?

Too late, I found the tweak files as soon as I got the beta. Not as modifiable as Worms 4 Mayhem though, they are just "tweaks" and nothing else, hence their name, they are used by the devs to tweak the stats of every weapon and improve game balance.

I think the complete game will include more files, you know? Remember that this is only a beta. And I heard about beta extension on Monday: I surely can be into beta, but I don't know if I come with you, boys.
At least, I can try the game and look into files.

PS: On the bet *coff coff* for *coff coff* I'm Abbizdy...until I get the beta key! lol

But I agree with you: pics and videos are requested. On the bet *coffcoff* for *coffcoff* I found something. And no, I don't post them nor give to anyone!

Someone needs to ask them the following questions (I don't have a STEAM account yet):

"Can you implement at a later date (after launch) support for more then 4 players? It would be handy for racing type games like Chute Race, Battle Race, Boom race, Bunjee Race etc."

"Can you support more then 5 worms per team? would be handy for all out brawls with all weapons available and 1 of everything style games etc."

""How many spectators are supported per match?"

"Will the scheme file format support excessive customization beyond what the internal scheme editors support (via 3rd party scheme editors)? Like in W:A you could always set weapon ammo from 1 <-> 9, infinite (10) and 11 <-> 255, same with turn delay and blast power or will it support the much broader degree of customization that Worms 2 offered?"

"Can we adjust the wind effectiveness for weapons/objects in schemes as well as crate probability, health crate value, starting health, health bias, sudden death modes, anchor mode, donor cards, round time, turn time, delay between turns (amount of time before a turn starts), super weapons, mine fuse, dud mines, oil barrels, water rise speed, maximum/minimum wind, permanent low gravity, custom rules (to enforce shoppa etc.), blast power, blast angle, wind viscosity and anything else I missed?"

"Will terrain editor saves be editable by external editing programs?"

"Can we customize sound banks, graves, worm names (up to 16 characters or some such) and team names?"

"Will there be support for custom clan tags?"

"Can we private message, ignore, use /me and send anonymous messages in a currently played game?"

"Will the game support replay files?"

"How many weapons from W:A and Worms 2 are present?"

"Does the rope physics match W:A or Worms 2?"

"How do grenades bounce and how do explosions affect things?"

"Can you launch and detonate on impact, dud mines with a baseball bat?"

"What kind of terrain/level borders will there be?"

"Will maps support more then 256 colours?"

"Will there be random terrain objects inserted into the map if the author wishes for it?"

"What happens if there is no room to place worms on the map and the map is classed as "open" and not Cave?"

"Elaborate on Worm Select, will the option to have it act like it does in Worms 2 be present? IE: you can tab at the start of your turn before moving any worms and will you include the Worm Select utility? hell, are there even utilities in this game?"

"Can you change crate behavior so that it simply doesn't spawn a crate if the crate would contain a Select Worm due to the probability of there being no crates spawning even though crate probability is set to 100%? IE: can we prevent the behavior where it spawns a crate containing select worm even though at least one weapon has probability set to 100%?"

Has been answered already: 17:39 - Shteamy Bruce: Kutagh - Head Hunter - We'll probably discuss internally if we are to add more of the older options you speak of within the scheme creation side of things so i guess thats a 'watch this space'.

"Can you support more then 5 worms per team? would be handy for all out brawls with all weapons available and 1 of everything style games etc."

Will ask next time

""How many spectators are supported per match?"

Will ask next time

"Will the scheme file format support excessive customization beyond what the internal scheme editors support (via 3rd party scheme editors)? Will ask next time

"Will the game support replay files?"

As far as I can see, yes.

"How many weapons from W:A and Worms 2 are present?"

17:13 - kelauce: new weapons - there are weapons in SR which are new to the PC series
17:43 - kelauce: but lots of new weapons to the PC series :)
17:56 - kelauce: Xena - no plans for anymore of the old WA weapons but we will be bringing in new ones

I've never used STEAM before, and have no clue how to get to the games IRC. I would think it will be very straightforward though.

Basically Steam works as a container... Just register an account, download Steam, and you can try out some games from here:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=851573
Regardless of what you got for graphics card (as long as it isn't Intel integrated stuff.... in which case you may as well skip Steam) then you get Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Half-Life 2: Lost Coast. You might want to get Codename: Gordon too (copy and paste the URL into Steam browser). (I know it says that Portal: First Slice is included with the Nvidia cards offer but that is simply the demo of Portal and is free for everyone regardless of the card). Steam basically does everything of downloading and installing the games for you, as well as updating.
