What if T17 specifically told people in the confirmation mail NOT to tell anyone whether they are in the beta or not?

Either the people who are constantly asking are not in, or they try to hard pretending that they're not in by constantly asking.
And the people who don't ask are actually the ones who're in. Or it's the other way around and they're too depressed to post anything.

Confused already?

EDIT:
Taking the previous post into consideration:
What if thomasp, notorious usermod, in constant contact with the Teamsters, actually has vital information about who is in an who is not, and was told to post subtle threats about the beta being cancelled?

i do agree with thomasp... we should stop digging our own graves. As soon as there is any vital information team17 will let us know. Maybe there were some unforseen problems with the applications. Im glad we still get informations rather then a "duke nukem forever" news-style.

tl;dr
Be patient the world isnt goin to end when the worms beta isnt out or you re not in it.

or is it?? :O

Had you ever thought that Team17 might stop working at, say, 5pm, and then maybe not start work until 9am again? The staff don't usually post on the forums from their homes. And don't forget their on Grennwich Mean Time, which is an hour or two behind most of Europe.

People seem to have a really nasty attitude about this. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they pulled the Beta as a result, or at least stopped those with said attitude from participating. Team17 are offering something for free here, something which they do not have to do, and all they're getting back is abuse because of a small delay.

Add to that, why cant all of you just wait for the full game? It will be available to everyone but you are all so greedy, why miss something which is for free, right? I hope Team17 make this into a paid closed BETA, then many of these whining memebers would disappear I assure you

First, I have forgottent that they are on Grennwich Mean Time. I'm sorry.
Secondly, it's not a problem that there is a small delay. I just mention that I'm waiting like everyone. Don't take it in the wrong way.

Maybe the beta is delay, but they can send an email to know who's in. They said that they'll do. I'm waiting. Just waiting. There is no problem.
I don't understand why you react this way...

..or maybe they KNEW you would find out and therefore would be forced to use reverse psychology! Or they knew that we would know it was a trick, like the time they announced the Ninja Rope being able to "fish" the 1st of April :p

Russia is a stand-alone Continent
Russia is NOT in the European Union
Russia will never count to Europe.

If you didn't get an NDA, you weren't able fill out the application form correctly. So they didn't have to send a mail since you were never a candidate for the Beta.

Hello!

I am qualified for the beta so I am a beta tester. But on the Paynetrains Beta Update thread it says that testers are gonna get another email in couple days where it says when the beta is gonna start. I haven't got that email yet, so am I missing something? Or is this normal?

Please help, because I don't wanna miss the beta. I love worms.

No one of us knows. We have yet to receive message from Team17 about the start of the closed beta.

Well, more Sol Survivor BETA for me. Seriously, the game is awesome. If you like the Tower Defense Genre and thought that Defense Grid is cool, wait till you see Sol Survivor.

The beta is being delayed due to us wanting to iron out as many bugs as possible before we unleash you guys onto it (remember the game is still in development)! We want it to be in a good enough state for you to be able to play all online modes and also be able to populate the leaderboards. We're also aiming to have the PC landscape editor in there for the PC Steam beta trial too.

Keep an eye out for Rick's updates (or on our Facebook page). Shouldn't be too long now anyway :)

Thanks for the info. Please bear with us, as we all are very impatient. It's been a while since a 2D Worms title was released on PC.

We are very eager to play the game. But on the same time, i myself want a polished product. So it kinda conflicts with me wanna play this game.

P.S.: Sol Survivor will be released March, 15th for just 10$ (probably the same in €). Yeah, i know i advertise a bit much, but this game is awesome. Also no competitor to Worms as they are from different genres.

I hope Team 17 will take as much time as they need to to bring us a satisfying product. Nothing worse than a disappointing game for all us hardcore Worms 2D fanatics out here :). Only a couple of months development time for the PC version makes me a bit susupicious about the outcome though...

Only a couple of months development time for the PC version makes me a bit susupicious about the outcome though...well keep in mind that all the framework for it was already there for the console version. all they did was tweak a few things, add an editor and a few neat little extras to please the PC crowd. plenty of work, sure, but not something that's going to take an overly long period of time from someone who's done this sort of thing for as long as T17 has.

You have obviously no idea about the structur and the complexity of these systems. The the whole code cant be ported directly from xbox the ps. The processor structure is way to different. Not to mention the PC version were the source code have to work on more then one specific processor.

I mean you're right that "the whole code cant be ported from xbox the ps"[sic] just like that, but it's no Herculean effort either.

They might've been working on the PC version ever since it was still called "Worms Armageddon Decade" anyways.

The whole point of APIs like DirectX is to make the hardware irrelevant to the programmer. And I vaguely remember reading some stuff saying that porting between the xbox and windows is fairly easy, although I can't find where atm it makes sense since they'll both support all the microsoft jazz.

edit: phoo, sup got there first.

strupp is right, but the input/rendering can be as direct x isn't much different on both (except the xinput api). The xbox 360 doesn't use a x86 compliant processor.

kutagh
13 Mar 2010, 14:11
If you use Microsoft XNA, you can code in C++/C# for both the xbox 360 and Windows with the API's provided by Microsoft. However, the Sony and Nintendo platforms are different and that is why it is harder to port to/from those then from xbox 360 to PC. But it still is annoying, compare GTA4 on PC to the xbox 360 version...

MrBunsy
13 Mar 2010, 15:46
The xbox 360 doesn't use a x86 compliant processor.

Shouldn't matter that much, unless you're messing around at a very low level the compiler will take care of that.

Not to mention the PC version were the source code have to work on more then one specific processor.I didn't say it COULD be ported directly, nor did I say it was an easy task. I said it was something Team17 has experience in doing and something that wouldn't take them an overly long amount of time to accomplish. you're right that I know almost nothing about coding, but I DO know enough to know that each system is different and it takes some time to port from one to another. I would hope EVERYONE is intelligent enough to know that much.

I mean, I don't know much about car engines either, but I know that if I wanted to change to a new engine in my car it would take some time. but at the same time they're not rebuilding the car from scratch. the framework is still there, they just have to swap out the engines. sure, it's a lot of work but it's hardly comparable to rebuilding the whole thing from the ground up.

Most of the beta testers are real Worms fans and wouldn't mind it too much
...at least I hope so ;)depends on the level of bad we're talking. Bad Company 2's online beta was plagued with glitchy graphic bugs, but that's something that's obviously going to be worked out before release and so I could easily get over those bugs. DarkFall Online's beta was plagued by balancing issues and repetative gameplay. both are things that could have been fixed in a patch before the beta started or even after the beta started, but the degree to which it was bad was so high it left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth. this detracted from peoples' enjoyment of the game for a long while after the issues were fixed. assuming a game was worse off than darkfall, the bad impressions could last so long that the game is no longer fun for them.

it's better to hold off a release for a few weeks/months than to release a crap product and patch it up later.

It is currently a closed beta, so only those who applied and were successful have been accepted and received details about the Beta. Everyone else will have to wait for the game to be released.

Alternatively they could follow the instructions on the Worms Reloaded Steam page (http://steamcommunity.com/games/wormsreloaded) to apply for the worldwide beta (today only).

For the beta world, you ask the SteamID but it is different from one game to another. So, this is the Steam account that you want.
For exemple :

In the mail will be mailed : SteamAccountName ?

All they need is your account name that you login with, they don't care for the actual STEAMID they rather have the account name , they can just enter either into when they send out the steam invites, just like alien breed beta

That'd be highly unfair to people who don't go on this forum though. Not to mention that you DON'T want beta members primarily from one group, you want a complete mix.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but on there Facebook page they stated that all e-mails have been sent and better luck next time for others. Thing about it is that why was it so hard for me to find what my Steam ID was? (the STEAM_x:x:xxxxxxxxx one) I didn't even know that a numbered one existed and I'm not sure how to acess it via the client or I didn't search properly for it. (really haven't used this thing much) Can it even be acessed through the client on desktop and if so how? (I know what it is now thanks to that link that was in the "how to steam ID" thread") If there's anyone who knows how to get your ID through the client could you quick post it up please? Thanks.
Err... what?

As in, when did you need a Steam ID other than the username?

I mean, I'm not saying you definitely didn't, I'm just saying that neither the Alien Breed beta form nor the original Worms Reloaded form needed it.

Please give me chance to test your game. I not officially tested "Call of Juarez" and "Sniper Elite". But has been very surprised by the result. I understand, a game genre not such, but I have a talent to find bugs in any game. I play not as everything, not on a plot; just I do that I will want. Ignoring game rules I sometimes I do crazy things.

Touche, that does make sense but I think in the same right seniority should be recognized. New people are important and there should be new people in the beta as well but there is a guaranteed market for worms fans, which can be found here. Maybe they took it into account and I didn't make the cut, who knows? but it's just as important to focus on their fans as it is to focus on a new audience. Financially, maybe not, but that shouldn't affect their decision. A good game will always sell and who better to give commentary on a worms game than those who play it most. I think it should be 60% old people, 40% new people.

Then again I also thought the best course of action for a new worms game would be to update the graphics, add the new weapons they are adding now and work with DC & CS (paid) to basically recreate WA, and than add an option for old weapons or new ones. It would be difficult (I assume) and it would take time but it would be one hell of a game. So maybe I'm just crazy or irrational.

The response on our testing site has been very good so far and people have been very helpful. It's impossible to closely vet 500-600 people in such a way.

I take it that means only 600? Is that including the 300 from the first Europe only round? It seems like the chances of getting selected were very slim but slim is better than none :)

I understand. Ok, I test the beta version when it is released. But it would be better to start testing now, while I have time for this. For some people life revolves around complaining and whining.

I can understand these people's feelings, but you're right. They need to learn that you can't be always lucky (I'm expecially talking about a boy who wrote on Steam something about absence of reporting feedbacks and he's wrong. Don't ask me how I know this, you surely could understand it on your own seen the hints I put in some discussions)
I have thanked God to be accepted in the Beta at the second try but, if I wasn't chosen, I wouldn't have complained like I did on February (I mean, I haven't complained that time too), when I discovered applications were already closed.
Beta selection has not made following specific paramethers like being fan or not or time into forum (otherwise, in the last case, I would have been roundhousekicked away), but basing in randomness and nationality (when I talk about nationality, I mean language speaking. So if Argentinians haven't been chosen, it's possible that some Spanish guy had the beta key)

Yeah, because you wrote me in Steam that no Argentinians have been accepted in Beta. I checked the beta steam group and I saw some Spanish and Chileans. That group is private (you can't join except by invite) but visible by all on Steam (members included), so I'm not disrespecting some rules.

really enjoyed reading all the comments in the Beta test key competition, some made me laugh like Adam Gales chuck norris comment, some made me cry (amazing how many of you are dying) and some made me say WTF (Olaf, seriously Roleplaying?) but the winner is Jeroen Gerritse, yes you do deserve it. We'll be in touch.

Jeroen Gerritse (http://www.facebook.com/jeroen.gerritse) won the facebook "why do I deserve a key?" contest (http://www.facebook.com/Team17Software?v=feed&story_fbid=110981022256784&ref=mf).

I deserve to be a beta tester, simply because I've been there since the start (nickname: Griffix). Some of your Team17rs must remember me from the old days where we used to play elite games on WormNET during lunchbreaks. (Kel/Chesh/Grant/Spadge/CleanAir/Spangly/Spookster). By annihilating my grandma's garden I won big prizes in the Worms2 ... See morecompetition for the longest worm! I also won a WWP-Shirt and a signed copy of WWP in a leveldesigncontest where you had to push mines with a jetpack to destroy a crate. I was one of the first on W:A-WormNET with the blue flaming healthbar! My own flag (Griff's) was in WWP for Dreamcast and PC! I also used to do some W:A beta testing and caught some nasty bugs for you guys to fix! I've never been a big fan of Worms3D, but since 2D is back I definetly want to get back in the game! I'm sorry for all the bragging, but I think it's clear enough who needs to test this biyatch. ;-)

because I had a little talk with Chuck Norris (best gamer in the world..PERIOD) and he says you should give me it or else he will roundhouse kick your building to saturn XD

I deserve to get the code .. because you guys at Team17 tortured me already long enough for not bringing out a new worms game. Heck! i even tried to roleplay worms in real life (although ducktaping worms to certain weapons looked pretty neat, besides the explosive granny part wich failed...)
