Any particular reason? I'll probably only stop visiting this place when it's taken down, there's no reason to avoid it if it's still up.

When WA and W2A get released on Steam the forum will probably have another surge in popularity, but whether or not that will last remains to be seen. I wouldn't write it off as dead just yet.

Agreed. Let's not bury the forum until volcadmin has actually shut it and turned the lights off.

I put no stock on the forums whatsoever and will be completely not surprised at all when it finally does die out, but so long as it's here and a few of you guys still post I'll probably continue to check it on occasion (read: constantly).

Hmm.
Thinking of that, what about creating a thread where the contact details of all OD members (or at least the most active in the last few years) are compiled?
I.e. all IM handles from the User CP and (voluntarily) email addresses.

Although, we still have the OD IRC channel as a fallback system.
Supposing that the general OO audience switches to #worms, it'll then be easy and probably quite fun to slander about them in real time.

facebook/myspace/whatever seems the most reasonable place to continue keeping tabs on one another, if on a slightly less personal note. that and XFire/Steam and we all basically stay in contact reasonably well. I won't give up on the forums yet, though, as it's far more convenient a way to talk about random crap with everyone, but if it goes down the tubes we've still got options.

It's not like it's a huge effort to browse this place every now and then. I don't have that many interesting sites to visit regularly, so I can always pop here to see what's up.

I doubt the forum will actually close down. But I also intend on staying until someone actually flicks the switch. Might as well if I've stayed for this long already.

If it does close however, I think Team17 should send everyone a "Stayed to the bitter end" achievement in the form of a diploma, with the final post count written on it. Because I'd totally hang it on my wall. :p

As long as people are still playing T17 games and visiting the forum, it isn't dead at all. Perhaps it's just a little dull. I'd hate to have no official forum to discuss things when another Worms game gets released for PC. No, a Facebook discussion board is not a suitable replacement.

The forum won't close. That'd be silly. Team17 wouldn't be welcoming customers to their site at all, then.

There is little to keep me coming to this forum but OD, where I can **** chat amongst my fellow worming elite, or at least see what you guys are up to. We do need a communal area of some sort, and we are a loose circle of friends so this works out great for us, as it's not purely a set of one-on-one conversations like Facebook or IM, but a constant conference! I can bet you'll notice the feeling of being in touch with everyone is missing if this place goes, and people will start suggesting "We should have a reunion!" You know that's the truth.

I'm interested to see how Krud (Greg, 'KRD') is getting on in secret with his uber-restrictive but contradictorily guided-open-source (behind closed doors that are magically invisible) project.

I'm still waiting for Andy Davidson to release his project that will "bring the community back together," and "make it like the old days." Last I saw was a 'Coming soon' site about two years ago.

I've been avoiding this forum lately too. Dunno why. It's not as alive as it is sometimes. Having said that, I think I did the same when WOW2 was released. So maybe it's just the flock of general idiots that's caused it. The same thing happened with S2k (nobody will forget that...)

Ben has certainly inspired me in many ways which I have usually failed to follow up for various reasons.

I wish I had some talent. I mean proper talent which I can rely on, not half-talent which I have to really push myself to tap into.

Anyway, it's no great loss. He's ginger after all. ;)

MtlAngelus
2 Aug 2009, 12:44
I think anyone who produces actual quality stuff had to work hard on their talent. I don't think I've ever seen any great guitarist or artist, for example, who didn't have to practice countless hours to achieve their quality.

The only exception is probably singing, which some people can do out of the blue, which is why I don't support singers unless they're part of a band, (successfully) play an instrument and/or compose their own stuff and it's actually good. :p

Vader
2 Aug 2009, 12:49
I didn't mean I wish I didn't have to put effort in, I'm fine with that. My problem is that when I put all my effort in probably 10% of what I produce is actually quality work. The rest is fairly... vanilla.

Anyway, the second line was intended to highlight how talented he is, not highlight how crappy I am! ;)

MtlAngelus
2 Aug 2009, 12:57
That percentage only increases with time.

But yes, Ben is talented. I hope I'll eventually get to see a proper Jump-Leads tv show on Canal 5 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_5).

Vader
2 Aug 2009, 13:03
Maybe being proactive about these things is a talent in itself which I need to practice.

Or rather than proactivity... Prozac.

Stef, you should grow a beard. All talented, successful people have beards because it's the beard that does all the work for them. It's a philosophy that many have held for some time and is unquestionable in the face of a lack of evidence - all the good directors have beards. Stephen Spielberg... and lots of others.

Matty awayyyyy!

I think good singers spend a lot of time practising, or they can't really work out their own style or how they can cover the transitions between ranges. Take Leona Lewis for example. Her voice changes a lot, and sounds different in each range, and all her vibrato is natural-sounding. Your manufactured pop sluts are nearly always harsh-sounding, forced vibrato, and their voices overwhelmingly stylised to the point they all sound the same. The raunchy, 'more-clever-than-you, boy' sound. A bit like when you go in to falsetto and your tonality disappears, so does the uniqueness of the female voice.

AndrewTaylor
3 Aug 2009, 01:24

Vader
3 Aug 2009, 11:29
I already have a beard. Not a full beard, though. In Tiger Woods this type of beard is called "Curtain w/ Soul" or something.

I call it "the bits of my face which are hairy".
