This my own review. I go into great detail, and I cover everything from new features, to design problems, to various bugs. I'm quite hard on the game, but I completely agree that it's worth the 800 MSP, and that it's a big improvement over Worms XBLA.

I know Team 17 plans on releasing a big DLC pack, and I hope they address a lot of the issues that I--and others--have with the game. Just adding a 'teleport in' feature and the option to turn off sudden death would improve things so much.

Great article!

The weapon chart was pretty helpful - the minestrike is probably one of my favorite weapons in WA, and the longbow can be downright amusing when used properly. The loss of nearly every utility is a major downer, too.

I'll probably be picking the game up - though it'll be somewhat grudgingly, since a decent number of my coworkers that could never be arsed to play WA are going to be picking it up. Smacking them around should be some good fun.

That's a very well written review SpaceInsom. I'm sure the team will find it useful.

Thank you for the kind words. When I was writing the review, I wasn't really thinking of posting it on the official forums. Even when posting here, I wasn't sure anyone from Team 17 would bother reading it. Your gracious response makes me wish I'd been just a little more diplomatic with my wording.

Hey, you said something about not being able to play a custom scheme with randoms (not friends, just in general XBL).

I thought about that for a while because I didn't have W2:A on at the moment. I think you're right.

You can't search for custom schemes in a quick match, although I think there is one called "Any". Still, I totally agree with your entire review, and all your points that you make, along with some ideas are about the same ones I would have.

This review does a pretty durn good job of listing off the things that have made this game a less-than-enjoyable experience for me.

After playing it for three hours total, I've tried to step back and consider things objectively; trying to determine what things were just me not wanting to get used to a new system, and what were things that I consider to be legitimately-poor changes made to the game.

Many of the complaints I have were voiced in the review, but I had a couple more:

- The Jetpack/Ninja Rope control scheme seems weirdly unresponsive. You can't move/fly up+over at the same time; if you try to input two directions simultaneously, there's a strange limbo of unresponsiveness that occurs. This is frustrating enough with the Jetpack, but nigh unforgivable with the Ninja Rope.

- Friction is an entirely different animal, this time around. It seems like the ground is made of sandpaper, and a shotgun to the head of a worm facing downhill into the drink is no longer a confirmed kill--they might only go a worms-length before stopping.

- No awesome training levels (bazooka, grenade, roping marathons, etc.).

Coming from playing W:A and WWP pretty hardcore (a few wins shy of my flaming health bar on WormNet), I can't help but view W2:A in light of those two games using a ten year-old engine, and it comes up decidedly lacking.

However, as was said in the review, for those who have not played Worms in any of its previous incarnations, this game is definitely worth the 800 points.

It makes me sad that I can't support this title as I'd like. Hopefully, some day, WWP will be faithfully ported to XBL. On that day I will rejoice.

Well, I was going to get W2:A tomorrow but this review has put me off.
I guess I'll wait for the Steam version.

I downloaded the demo and I noticed the aiming issue very quickly. The other small issues such as the lack of game style customisation seem like the kind normally fixed in the PC version. Also, an old favourite of mine, the Ninja Rope, doesn't sound at its best here.

Consoles don't have interfaces that work very well for customisation menus (with the Wii's mouse-like input options the exception) but still, I'm disappointed that aspects like sudden death aren't optional.

The demo doesn't show the game well.

Wait for the bug fixes then download it.
