*Thread stuck*

As said there will be a PC release of Worms 2: Armageddon - likely to be via digital download only (Steam possibly). More to be confirmed later, and if you're really lucky I might even update this thread when it gets confirmed :p The game may even get its own subforum nearer to release.

"Yay!" for that.

I'll wait to the PC ver coz i personally prefer playing worms on my computer...but i wanna try the game before buying it for PC, maybe i'll rent it for xbox 360.

It just means that a subforum might be created when the game is near release. It doesn't say anything about the release date.

maybe i'll rent it for xbox 360.

You can't rent XBOX 360 Live Arcade games but there will be a free demo.

No it just meant that when we updated the forum listing the XBLA version had been "officially" announced but the PC version hadn't.

Or alternatively, accept what you have in this game.

And I bet you don't even know. Go look at the other threads in the forum and find out.

Ah, like the glistening raindrop which remains from last night's downpour, trying desperately to escape the porous clutches of the window frame unaware that its final destination will be same. Slowed only by the aridity of the surrounding glass it leaves a shiny trail in its wake - a trail which drains it of the very essence it built up in its descent from the heavens. The impossible task made possible only by a further torrent of such hapless raindrops, all focussed on the same goal yet hindered by man's creations.

That sort of thing?

I'm confused now. I was under the impression that it would be available trough digital distribution only, I also I was under the impression that it would be available trough Steam only. Steam doesn't really do Mac games, given Steam itself doesn't run on Macs... Either they will make it available trough other digital distribution system, or maybe they are planning a retail release after all... if it's the first one I doubt both versions would come in the same download, so it would most likely require you to buy both versions if you want to run it on both OS's. if it's the second, I think it's almost guaranteed they'll both come on the same disk.

I just hope that online play works between both versions, i.e. being able to play against windows users from the mac version...

Yeah there's a 7" demo and the full game is on 12". For slow motion replays you set the player to 33rpm and to fast forward through the replays you set it to 75.

You'll need a special record player, though, as they're dual-layer.

Akuryou13
22 Jun 2009, 03:01
this game better be renamed. Worms 2: Armageddon will just be too confusing. I've already got to sort out a steam computer, personalize it, find a spot to install some windows without letting the steam out, AND find worms that can fit in it? that's a hell of a lot of work for one game, so I at least better get a unique game title....

Wormetti
22 Jun 2009, 04:22
They only named it Worms 2 Armageddon since there was already a Worms on XBLA. I think they should have just scrapped the Armageddon name and shortened it to Worms Decade or a new title.

For PC, they will likely use the Worms Armageddon Decade name since they already own the domain and have a game with that name rated on a classification board.

Plasma
22 Jun 2009, 12:02
If you ask me, they should go a step further and name it Worms 3 Armageddon. Because 3 is more than 2, so there's no reason why they should go with the lesser one.

Unless that little bit in the middle of the number 3 actually costs a lot more than you'd think.

Shadowmoon

From what i've heard, single player will be less than WA. Less weapons too. There's probably going to be more customization, but apart from that it doesn't sound like the sequel to WA.

And spadge/team 17 haven't said anywhere that its the sequel, so yeah.

Has there been any official word on the weapons? I heard off-hand that all WA's weapons are returning, and the additions of new ones. Which would be great, but I haven't heard anything supporting either side.

As a big WA fan, I wonder just how good the port of W2A will be to PC. Seeing it's Team17, I have high hopes! Waiting in anticipation for more details on stuff. It's also possible that since it'll be through Steam, there very well might be content updates given like the XBLA one. T17's been really great about patches and stuff for WA, so I can't imagine W2A not being a good spiritual successor to WA.

In my opinion.....deadcode and cybershadow killed worms world party.....coz WA is better than WWP just coz nobody patched WWP.
And i think....if nobody patches the comming new version for PC.....maybe they will be killing it too with updates(with updates like soundbanks sharing and advance schemme format)

Who needs roping?
IMO, the ridiculous and constantly increasing focus on rope based games has killed the fun in casual, public online games in WA in the past 5 or 6 years.
And the invention of schemes like WFW, Clockworm Orange and Hysteria couldn't really stop this development.

Games like CTF, AvsA or Boomrace have disappeared completely nowadays.

We need more oldschool Worms fun with hardcoded rules to support different game modes, which are not based on the same "who-hammers-the-space-button-faster-for-roping". :p

Also, we need lasers and the SOAR!

BetongÅsna
25 Jun 2009, 09:19
There's rope races included, and the physics are being altered to WA style, so all signs point to yes :)

But yeh, constant reliance on ropes ruins the fun of a normal game, and rope-centric games are inherently tedious and painfully repetitive. IMHO, of course.

Obviously there are many people who "need" roping... it's the natural evolution of multiplayer games that modifications of the core game establish, look at Quake, UT or whatever.
It's not the roper's fault that CTFs or BnAs almost vanished - it's the general evolution that those schemes are maybe not that exciting in the long run.. especially for competitive matches in leagues.
And the league games have always been a big part of the community, hell.. there was even a ranks system when the WN started.
Yeah, roping might not be attractive to the casual (offline) player who likes to play a quick round with his friends, but with the competitive aspect in mind roping definitely plays a big role.

No. You just suck at roping. Boomrace and other silly schemes have less depth, are equally centered over a particular skill of the game and don't motivate all around play.

But I bet you like those, and the only reason you do is because you have achieved to learn to play those more less skill demanding schemes. Open your mind.

I can accept arguments against roping, or WA being too centered on rope games, however, trying to argument your points using Boomrace, or Bungeerace as better alternatives (Bonz) is contradictory.

Rope is to WA what DotA is to Warcraft 3. It has enhanced the game's popularity and activity over the years and if anything it's only helping WA stay alive.

Rope haters, you just can't rope.

Rope is to WA what DotA is to Warcraft 3. It has enhanced the game's popularity and activity over the years and if anything it's only helping WA stay alive.
Very true. And I'm quite thankful that it did.
But nowadays it's almost exclusively about roping.
This goes even so far that people are creating flash-based roping fan games, basically completely ripping of the essentials of the franchise/genre: Worms, crude humor and wacky weapons.
Rope haters, you just can't rope.
Yes, I'm below average at roping, but I highly doubt that I would like rope based games more if I was better at them.
Flinging my worm through a monochrome labyrinth and drowning it in the end just isn't what I expect of a Worms game.

That said, I don't "hate" the rope, but strongly dislike rope-based schemes, in particular abstract ones like rope race and warmer, which just lack the basic essentials of a Worms game.

You have to accept that most people who play online in multiplayer games have a sense for competition. That's the biggest reason for the majority of them, they want to compare their skill to the skill of others.

Schemes like Roperace or Roper require a very high level of skill to be mastered - and this is what many people fascinates.. the whacky, funny game Worms combined with a high grade of skill.

"Normal" schemes like 'Intermediate' serve the fun factor but lack in serving the skill and competition factor.
Also there still is the offline mode where you can play for fun and enjoy the funny graphics and gimmicks. =)

Vader
1 Jul 2009, 14:46
I'm sort of with bonz on this one. I appreciate why roping schemes exist but I've never been good enough with the rope to participate in such schemes, besides which they don't seem all that fun. Mind you, there are plenty of people who play other schemes which I don't find hugely fun. That's not to say they're bad schemes, they're just not my cup of tea. The fact that so many schemes exist is a huge merit to the game and that so much choice is available only strengthens the argument that Worms is the best game ever. ;)

I'm very much a BnG kind of guy. In fact I'd probably play anchored games which only have grenades, given half a chance.

I really wish the new game would come out on PC - is there any news on this yet?

According to Wikipedia:

Worms is a series of turn-based computer games developed by Team17 Software. Players control a small platoon of worms across a deformable landscape, battling other computer- or player-controlled teams. The games feature bright and humorous cartoon-style animation and a varied arsenal of bizarre weapons.

The game, whose concept was devised by Andy Davidson,[1] was described by the Amiga gaming press as a cross between Cannon Fodder and Lemmings.[2] It is part of a wider genre of turn-based combat games in which each player controls characters who duel with projectile weapons; similar games include Scorched Earth and Gorilla.

Worms 2: Armageddon is a turn-based strategy game developed by Team 17 and part of the Worms series.[1]

It is the sequel to the popular Worms on XBLA, released in 2007. It has several new features including; Fire, Concrete Donkey and Armageddon, as well as rope racing and forts. It also has an all new story mode with 30 missions.

It has been released July 1, 2009 for 800 Microsoft Points.[2]

The game shall be exclusive to Xbox 360 Live Arcade for a period and then will be released for PC and Mac.[citation needed]

So what I want to know is:

Will the Game be coming out for PC?

There is so much danger in the world, North Korea has nuclear weapons, Pakistan has nuclear weapons, USA, China, Russia, India, Israel, France, Great Britain, all these crazy people have a lot of nuclear weapons… and our earth gets polluted by all these crazy people, too (take this thread for example)… and we have a worldwide economical crisis, a depression - what about Team17, what about Valve and Steam, who can guarantee that W2:A will ever come out for PC!?

Honestly, I can’t do that!

Don't forget to sign up at your local Vault Shelter Today! I got admitted recently at Vault 69. I feel safer now. :)

How can there be a release date yet? We don't even know if it's coming out on PC!

Nobody has told us it is yet. Not one person.Even if we had a PC release date, that still wouldn't answer the question of whether or not it's going to be released on PC!

What are you talking about sir? As a good, informed citizen, I believe the Vault-Tec selection process is standard in all vaults. After all, why shouldn't it? Sure, none of my male neighbors seems to have been admitted... but to be honest I've known them for a few years and they're not exactly very smart people. Surely they just failed their application test.

I must admit that I haven’t played Fallout 3 yet, but as a good man, here is my advice:

Don’t trust anybody, especially when they tell you, that W2:A will be released for PC!

I get the feeling people aren't taking this thread seriously anymore. That's a real shame. I thought this was a helpful and friendly community, not one of those cliquey communities which only serves its few veteran members sufficiently and expects all others to slowly die quietly.

All I want to know - and I think it's a sensible question worthy of a sensible answer - is: will there be a PC release of Worms 2: Armageddon and if so will it be on PC?

Horrible?????

I feel like i'm gonna puke.

Some people just don't get the message do they...... its not supposed to be like WA or WWP at all, its meant to be the sequel to Worms XBLA, its more close to WOW 2 be honest.

Most people should be grateful they are getting a new 2D Worms for PC after all those years, and before saying "stay away" please make sure you actually know the differences of the PC version to the X360 version?

Metacooler

Apparently this game won't make it to PC - so i humbly retract my previous statement. Sorry to ruffle feathers :P

Though i don't know why they would call it Worms 2 : Armageddon if they wanted to market a new game that was completely different from Worms : Armageddon...Silly

Still will try hard to avoid playing this game again since i have WWP and W:A, which are vastly superior. As a stand-alone game, it's not bad - 6 or 7 out of 10.

The message is clear, you just have to read the title of the game. Armageddon. 2. People rightfuly expected an improved version of 10 year old game Worms Armageddon.

Not really, Worms 2 has superior physics, more weapon/crate customization options, more weapons and many other things that W2:A doesn't have.

There won't be a PC release of W2:A but will there be a PC release of Worms Armageddon Decade?
