I think the most obvious explanation is that yesterday was a Bank Holiday here in Britain, and so none of us were at work. I don't actually know that for certain, but I would imagine that it's highly likely...

i'm not so sure of that. loooking at wikipedia - and considering the public holidays we actually get off - i see new year's day, martin luther king jr. day (january), memorial day (early summer), independence day (july 4), labor day (late summer), thankgiving (november) and christmas

We have off:

January 1st
"May Day" (first Monday in May)
Whatever the late May bank holiday is called (last Monday in May)
Summer bank holiday (last Monday in August)
Christmas Day
Boxing Day (26th December)

So you still have more days off than us Brits :p

We never had bank holidays off while at uni... we still had to come in for lectures.

Wow that's harsh! Even we got bank holidays off! Although I think that was more to do with the lecturers not wanting to come in... :p

That's because everyone else needs to buy electrical components to fiddle with and attempt to "replace" on Bank Holidays, since the weather's usually too lousy to go outside and play with some large, dangerous power tools :p
