You may remember that a couple of years ago I asked if anyone knew where I could find a nice, clean recording of the GameCube start-up tune so I could use it as my PC's Start Windows sound.

Well now it's time to bring my PC and laptop into the next (read: current) generation. I've decided I'd like to use the DS start-up sound for my laptop and either the Wii or Xbox 360 start-up sounds for my PC. If any of you wonderful people happen to know where I can find a nice, clean recording of those files, there's a very shiny, very imaginary nickel in it for you.

really need to find something in the way of customization for MY computers sounds....

Not sure how picky you'd be about quality, but YouTube has a lot of stuff like this, and some of it's pretty clean.

Does the Wii have a startup sound?

Alternatively, connect your Wii's audio line to a PC/stereo/etc. and record it.

But yeah, just connect your DS's headphones socket to your PC's mic socket. Can't get much cleaner than that.

I tried recording from my DS. I think it sounds a bit weird though. But I'm uploading it as is, maybe you can tweak it.

I had to do it on my laptop, as my stationary PC did not want to record any noises my DS made. Also, something odd happened when my DS was connected to it's mic port.. it sent pulses to my DS which made it's speakers click about once every second (Even when the DS was turned off!) . Actually, those pulses were picked up by Audacity (http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8902/12714644.jpg).

You should also spray paint the IPL onto your laptop's keyboard so it looks like a DS.

Maybe you could find airtimes/a video game programme or something and try that?

I could hook my Xbox 360 to my TV card and rip the audio that way, but that's far too much effort.

how DOES one rip sound off of, say, a DVD? I can think of a theme that'd be perfect for me, but no idea how to do it :p

Wouldn't your average TV have an audio out? I'd assume an audio jack hooked up to your soundcard would do the trick.

You can use software to rip the audio tracks from DVDs and save them as MP3s. afterdawn.com probably has more info.
