View Full Version : How Do You All Name Your Teams?

I was just wondering. I want to make a fresh start with a new team and I'm not sure how to name them. Unlike some people, I don't like giving ridiculous names involving numbers and all. I either like really ambiguous names or some awesome cultural reference that isn't too obvious.

I'm currently caught up between a team using the "Angry Scots" soundbank (still my favorite of all time) with various Scottish names and assembling a team of awesome pop-culture heroes (only giving part of their name however, enough to make it easy enough to figure out if you use one ounce of brain power) - "Indiana", "Skywalker", etc.

What do you guys usually do?

I play with The Simpsons starring the famous yellow characters. A flag and grave in Simpsons theme are obvious.

"some" as team name, worm names such as "someone" for the fun of reading the "someone killed 3" sort of comments the game does.
It has been my team for more than 6 years.

"Bonz Brigade"

Cpt Bonz
Sgt Kelpie
Pvt Fuzz
Spectre
Spoof
Sprite
Spook
Spirit

The first is my most frequently used nickname, the second one a nickname I use for fantasy/role playing games/sites and the third is a nickname of someone I once played against. He called himself 'Cpt. Fuzz'.

I have been using the nick "Cpt Bonz" since the C&C Red Alert days (together with an old friend called Tom, naming himself "Maj Tom"), so I simply demoted Fuzz to a private.

Since most of the schemes played in Worms do not require more than 3 worms, I didn't other to come up with more nicknames or ranks, so I let them be ghost worms, which is presented with synonyms of 'ghost', all starting with 'sp'.

All my teams are named after W40K races (I play as the Tyranids) I play the table top W40K game and have a Tyranid army (and now an Ork one)

I don't have any custom graves but I have custom flags. (The Tyranid one is based on the 2nd edition Tyranid logo of having a 2 Rippers back to back over a large yellow star with black background.

I have the following speech sets for the races:

Tyranids = Thespain (Best scheme ever! It must return in all future worms games, it just has to!)
Chaos = The Cad
Daemons = Danish primes
Tau = That jamacan one?
Daemon hunters = Drill seargent
Orks = Soulman
Necrons = Cyborworms
Ultramarines (based on my friend's army) = Whoopsie
A made up chapter (based on my friend's army) = Brummie

My original team was "Alex Team"

I remember some of the names... First was "Alex", second was "Paco"... Then there were "Gusano" and "Lombriz" (worm and earthworm, respectively, in english) and forgot the rest.

I need to get a new CD. :(

I make a new team whenever I start liking certain soundbank or I think of some cool or original flag/grave/worm names. :)
So I have 7 teams by now:

1) One team is made up of my IP addresses.
2) Asterisk/Asterix team. Team name and flag is asterisk, but worm names consists of the names from Asterix and Obelix films. ;)
3) A "leet" team name with my nick written in strange/russian characters, worm names being letters of my nick, and the grave with "RIP K6" sign on it.
4) Queen. Worm names contains the band members and their songs. The grave represents the statue of Freddie Mercury of how he looked in Wembley '86.
5) windoze. A Windows team with Linux penguin grave, hehe.
6) Unknown Random. I wanted to make a team but couldn't think of any names so I made a team with worm names, flag and grave pottering around unknown/random things - Question, Pseudo, Algorithm, Variable, Constant, Equation, Knowledge, Intelligence.
7) Czech rock rocks - names of popular Czech rock interprets - Daniel Landa (don't confuse with Dalai Lama :)), Divokej Bill, Turbo, Kabát, Chinaski, Tri sestry, Semtex, Lucie.

I doubt I need to explain how I came to customise my team this way.

I've called my team the Mr Mens, iwth each worm having Mr before their name.

Plainplane's Team

Worm 1
Worm 2
Worm 3
Worm 4
Worm 5
Worm 6
Worm 7
Worm 8

Uses American flag and default sound-bank. I like the default names, and the randomization mode really helps the games.

Plainplane's Team

Worm 1
Worm 2
Worm 3
Worm 4
Worm 5
Worm 6
Worm 7
Worm 8

Plain and simple. My team was formed by randomly coming up with names and over time (and games) some have changed. Oddly though, Streaky Bacon has been my platoon leader for as long as I can remember, do to the fact he seems to give the best results (kills, acuracy, and he oftenly points out my spelling errors).

Aw man, per worm stat-tracking would be so sweet. As in how many games a particular worm had played without dying, what their average accuracy was, how much damage they've done in total and per-game and so on.

I mean, there'd be little meaning to it all, especially since a worm's accuracy is utterly dependant on the player and therefore all worms would end up with a roughly similar accuracy. I guess it would highlight which worms tend to be in more awkward places and so on... I mean, if you're placing your worms then there's a chance your 4th worm is going to be in a more risky place on account of all the safe spots being taken, and that could be fairly consistent across games...

Hmmmmm... I want to know what rank Cow Corpse would have. I think Beef Zombie would out-rank him. Hey, maybe the game could rearrange teams depending on a worm's rank... interesting... to me anyway. And only for a few minutes a month or something.

When I was younger, in hotseat games, before I knew wormnet existed, I would have a favorite worm, and when it was that worm's turn I would say "Oh, its Deep Throat's turn, he never misses, he always manages to kill something everytime he moves", and this is called self motivation enhancement fix and it works. You can't abuse it though, or it loses its value and stops working.
Some worms, had specific things they were good at, and so Sniper Sulivan was the ace with the shotguns and I had that extra motivation to be accurate, that extra level of care. That extra level that makes the difference.

And then I grew up.

Vader

I do that to an extent. I like to keep Cow Corpse alive for as long as possible but I don't go so far as specialising in certain skills with certain worms. That's for Hogs of War :)

As for growing up, poor you. I hope I never grow out of using my imagination, playing with toys beyond what can be manufactured, or otherwise enjoying games from that point of view. :(

Don't feel bad, my worm skills grew with the years too, and so did my wang - and in the internet, those two are equivalent.

I'm pretty sure that's true outside the internet, too.

My girlfriend was very impressed by my huge amount of skill.

When my Captain dies, all the other worms will go berserk and retaliate with no remorse and even will sacrifice themselves to achieve the vengeance.

The most satisfying games are the ones where I barely win the game with my Captain with a few health points. Like in a cheesy action movie.

My favourite worms are on a holiday trip to Planet Zog for a while. They really needed some weeks off after years of fierce combat. That means you won't find my brave Buggus Wormus, ShapeShifter and Wormus Diggus, being lead by the ever feared dominating terror worm xDTWxJunkU as an opponent when getting beaten up by me in a game for now.

Instead, there is a new team which emerged straight from the sewers, and it looks like they can do a good job as well. DrainPipeAlpha is kinda unf*ckwithable, and so are his team mates SmellySh*tFingaz, Sewerblock-11, Moonlight-Turd, Stiff.Sewah.Body, Rotten'****Pipe, Urnans'RustInPipe and SewerDeodorant.

Nevertheless, I can't wait until ShapeShifter comes back into action, that mofo really knows how to handle your poor worm, harharhar. I miss their experience, but fortunately they sent me an email from planet Zog telling that they are bored killing some strange alive apples over there and wanna come back soon.

I name my team as follows:
Team Name: NovaUrbans
Worm 1: Gnrl. Dexterius
Worm 2: Col. Steinfaust
Worm 3: Major Eisengriff
Worm 4: Lt. Napalm
Worm 5: Sgt. Mjr. Bolt
Worm 6: Sgt. Ironhide
Worm 7: Dominus Catus
Worm 8: Herr Danke
Flag: NZ flag
Grave: Custom grave*
Soundbank: German

*A grave that I made from the white computer grave with the worm's face, with the worm's face replaced by the worm's face from the frontend superweapons toggler in the weapons editor

The team name and first worm's name are obviously taken from Latin. The team name means "New City", and the first worm's name is taken from the Latin word for "right" (as in "right hand side"). The next two worms' names are obviously taken from German, meaning "Stonefist" and "Irongrip", respectively. "Dominus Catus" means "Mr. Cat" in Latin. I have the New Zealand flag because I am a New Zealander, and I have the German soundbank because I like the German language.
