View Full Version : How do I NOT get kicked?

Zeus1110
5 Mar 2009, 22:32
Hey, I've been playing this game for over 5 years, so I know how things work... but after coming back from a few months break, people say something like "rules plz" and then kick me half a second later. How the heck do I get people to not kick me when I join a game?

and then there was this one time when I didn't get kicked, but I got desynched right when the game started... >.<

If you're joining a wxw game for example, copy wba cba afr ktl (the rules of the scheme) to your clipboard before joining the game. Then immediately after you join the game (i.e. as soon as you're in the lobby), PM the rules to the host (right click on the host's user name, paste the rules, hit enter and pray not to get kicked). Either that, or host your own game: Hosting Guide (http://worms2d.info/Hosting_Guide)!

Dude this whole "tell rules plz" thing is so retarded I don't even find words to express my disgust. It worked for 8 years without this crap and now all of a sudden you get kicked from funners because you're pasting the rules too slow - which anyone can do, even if they don't know them btw. >_>

Another tip would be to add a clan tag to your name, make one up if your not in one. like xABCxMYNAME

What?! Why?

people trust people in clans more then people who aren't, don't ask me to elaborate further cause I don't really know why :/

I can't say it's an observation I've ever made.

It's obvious - for some hosts, people within a clan are less likely to be new players without knowledge of rules.
But putting a clantag of a non-existant clan isn't a very nice thing to do, is it? :/

Well it is not non-existent anymore, is it? Just "new." ;)

Basically, by doing this you're making the problem worse in the long run. Sure it may be convenient to be able to get a quick game going, but once that mentality takes over completely, it's going to make joining random games on WormNet pretty much useless. Inflation, baby.

My alternative of choice is getting to know a few active players on WormNet a little better and arranging games with them first. Then slowly expand the circle of trusted people and play happily ever after. Another thing you gain by doing this is that you actually get to take part in deciding what schemes you're going to be playing; not something trigger-happy führer hosts would permit. :p

Asking for rules is kind of stupid, however whenever I see a new player join my game that I think might not know how to play, the first thing I do is ask him if he knows how to play.

I don't ask him the rules or anything, just a simple yes or no. I think this is the most friendly way of asking someone if they're experienced or not. I don't automatically boot if they don't know how to play, if they're willing to say "but let me stay I'll learn the rules" then I let them play.

But it's the silent type that I don't like. They do not read the titles of the host game, they assume it's a normal game. As soon as they join the host they add the team and light up, and in game they behave as if it were a normal game even tho everyone else is following some kind of rule. Even if that person doesn't know the rules at least they could ask why everyone is following some kind of rule (like taking a rope before attacking or something).

Basically, some people learn while others just ignore everyone and want the game all to themselves. So asking a stranger if they know how to play is in my honest opinion the least I can do to protect the game from being ruined. Just a simple yes or a no ;)

Some people abuse of the kick plugin, but many users don't know the new games available to worms.

http://worms2d.info/Schemes

You will find here the explanation of each Schemes (rope race, deathmatch, wall to wall etc...)

I host regularly and i agree with Malvol3nt, some guys who don t know the schemes and rules of these ones don't read the tchat box where everybody try to say go to start etc..

I think that a great new feature for worms would be to force tchat box at game start and give the possibility to close it manually or automatically for exemple, even myself at my worms first start took time to find how to open the phone ringed ;).

This thread and the following song should be stickyed so it would be more easy for newcomers ;)

It's surprising how many people ignore it and come asking how to open it later on.

I don't think typing the rules is much of a bother, but maybe that's because I can type well. Juts right click host's name, type cba afr ktl wba...takes 2 seconds.

The funniest part about that is when newbies just paste those 3-4 words in any scheme they like. I host a hysteria or bna or something, and they start shouting ktl cba afr. *boot*:D

To be honest, When I was a "noob", I actually didn't realize that it was a Shopper.
And Mal3ovent, I agree with you. I hosted a RR, and I asked for the rules. Instant Boot.

Ok, I guess I typed that in quite wrongly. I mean that someone came in the game, and I asked for the rules, he replied with the Shopper rules, and I kicked him.
And I don't really need that "power". I know so many people in WormNet, that if someone joins my game that I don't know, they're a noob. And no, I'm not showing off. I'm just saying the truth.

Hey, you're a DBZ fan, too! Cool

I never thought of this but my name is pretty much a blatant Star Wars reference. That probably puts me in the same category as those douche bags you're talking about, except I'm not a newbie douche bag. Also I never think of my name as a Star Wars reference any more anyway, so maybe other people don't.

Still, I might name myself x[=]xV4D3R-SSJ4x[=]x from now on and see how many games I get kicked from.

Actually, the one I go by now would probably have trouble also. Luckily I only ever go on for pre-arranged matches now, and they're normally T17 games, or some silly new scheme Run stumbles upon.

Sadly I hardly ever get to play BnG or Elite games anymore, one because the people I play with don't play these games, and also because I get booted from the randoms I join because they don't recognise me.

I doubt many active people would recognise me now, and any references to CL2K would be lost also. Meh... T17 it is then

I remember CL2K, though I never participated.

I never play with randoms. All of my games are pre-arranged and 99.9% of them are Sheep BnG. Playing with randoms always results in rules being broken, in our experience, so we tend to stick to our own.

Naw I remember you :) but it is true about cl2k, few of the active players today played back then... Which means that a lot of the old players has quitted over the last three years or so, as it isnt that long since cl2k still was an active league. One generation of wormers are now as much as 100% gone, and a new one is luckily coming up. There is no automatic that a game like WA, being 10 years old, still would have a "bunch" of players jumping around at WN tho, but there are :D

WoE was my clan rather than a site in it's own right and I'm sure I had it online somewhere but seem to have lost it, shame, it had some funky WWP missions, they might still be in my WWP folder I guess...

* Host your own games
* Play with friends, or at least people who know you from previous games
* If the Nazi host still wants you to guess his rules, then copy and paste this:

(>'.')>---o* CBA FBA WBA SBA Start At Start AFA Only Use The Weapon That You Are Standing On KTC No Straight Shots FFA ATL No 5sec Nades PILES OK PACK ProPACK AFR KTL ABL t('.'t)

It should cover most schemes, though I still get booted by noobs hosts who either can't take a joke, or simply dont realize that those are all the rules.

Or play Free For All (http://geocities.com/violators_world/ffa.html) games and then no one has a reason to get all ****y when you "cow," because there are now cows/cheats in a FFA game. Of course some people still prefer to have rules which are either not enforced, or lead to not-so-fun games when players are forced to skip their turn (always because of an accident they made - how fun is that?). So, you might as well not join games with Nazi hosts and hopefully someday they all realize what giant jerks they've been this whole time, and that we were all noobs once and learned how to play just fine without being constantly booted.

I hosted a game called "Yay-and-stuff" the other day for friends, though I didnt mind if others joined. We didn't know what we were going to play so I didn't name the game.

The first person to join instantly messaged me 3 rules, even though I had either just made up a game type, or wasn't playing anything specific. I didn't have to boot him, he left as soon as it wasn't what he for some reason expected it to be, probably shopper. The whole thing is madness and while:

Or play Free For All games
is actually a very good one. I always play with minimal rules, no mater what the scheme, and rely on what people think is fair and fun. Singling out a player till obliteration isn't fair, hitting someone only 2 hp behind because they perposley fell in order to abuse the rules, is. The best BnG rule set I ever played was FFA untill last place was under 45 health, then ABL.
