I would say something along the lines of "no need to shout", but I have to admit you do have a point.

Who even controls the server? Is it SCEE, or Team17 themselves? I assume the latter, since I've seen Team17 staff members fixing problems. I really do believe they've shut it down with no ceremony; it must be quite a server hog, and AFAIK no Team17 staff member has commented on it so far.

All I can say is prove me wrong, Team17, prove me wrong.

In view of this, I've sent another email to another senior executive at THQ.

Not much more I can add at the moment, sorry.

I was really looking forward to playing this game online. I just bought it today and the fact that online multiplayer is simply unavailable is very disappointing. This would definitely discourage me from buying THQ/Team 17 products in the future.

Working in the IT field, I can say that it should not take THAT much resource's to host this game online. More than likely, with such a seemingly small community, it would not even require its own dedicated box. What gives?

According to this post: http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=688246&postcount=29 that its totally out of Team17's control, and there's too much legal red tape to make it worthwhile (and probably financially viable) for Team17 to acquire the servers and host the game themselves.

You would probably be able to get a full refund for the game on the grounds that it isn't working as advertised, but only if the box explicitly states that online play is a feature of the game. This does seem to be the only game Team17 have developed that had online play at release and now doesn't. They still have servers for a 12-year old game running, but I believe those are maintained by T17 and not the publishers.

I bet it says "game experience might change online" or something along those lines. That's the backdoor they use when the multiplayer aspect of whatever game starts being a liability.

Wow, that's total bunk. I am less worried about the money and more about the fact that I really wanted to play some worms online on my PSP.

Ah well, life goes on... it's just shame that none of you shall ever get to experience the pure worm domination that is 'Wooden Spoon'. ;)

Come to think, the worse thing about this whole situation is that THQ/Team 17 never bothered to put out an announcement about it. That is simply poor customer service. qq

Are the games still being sold retail? I would've thought that THQ wouldn't still keep trying to sell the games if they decided to take down the server.

Certainly seems that they've stopped selling them. Out of stock on Amazon UK, Game and HMV, but not Play.com

Spadge (director of Team17) didn't know the servers had been taken down until threads started appearing on the forums and a forum member actually contacted THQ customer services. Spadge had tried to contact higher-up people at THQ but never got a response.

Does seem that THQ's customer and developer support does need sorting out...

Due to the PSP server downswitching, I decided that I will not by another THQ game again.
I don´t pay 45€ for a only online game (Worms in single player mode sucks) and after a short time its over.

There are a lot of Freeware alternatives...

I understand that, though the situation reflects poorly on Team17 by association, like it or not. Let me put it this way, I will be hesitant to purchase another Worms game as long as THQ is the publisher.

That being said... those *******s are going to make me a liar on day one because I just read that Worms was just released on PSN. sigh *hands over $$$*

AFAIK, Team17 themselves are publishing that because they can (it's digital distribution). AFAIK.

Why don't Sony just bring the ACTUAL PLAYSTATION NETWORK to the PSP? It would solve a lot of problems....

I've been doing some serious thinking and Worms,Need For speed, and Medal of Honor Are the only online psp games I like. But Worms comes first! BattleFront lags too much & I dont like the controls.

I tried playing the Hot seat mulitiplayer mode with my friends...I dominated them. They sucked big time!
Does anyone here live in Tampa, If you're here, you must know a thing or too. And.and.. we could start a...aa.. Worms Ad-Hoc club!...Yeah! <(".v)???

How many people play Medal of Honor online? I've been thinking about going to get it. I have a demo that only demos multiplayer, and it looks pretty cool.

I don't wanna wait any longer! PULL THE DAMN SERVERS ON AGAIN THQ!!! I'll certainly not buy any game of yours anymore (as I don't buy any EA games any more for several reasons you may guess :p) if I had to wait forever for this c**p.

No worry, I also sent an e-mail at THQ to answer my question. I guess they won't. Nevertheless I'll try, and I hope they take this as a warning.

Beruhige dich, bring nichts.

In english:

Relax. THQ would´nt switch the servers on again.
It wasn´t the fault of Team17 (it was THQ), they now release their games at their own.
The delay now is about Sony and Nintendo, because the games are now in the submission process and its in their hands, when theiy release it.

But it shouldn´t be that long now.

Naja...

EDIT: IN ENGLISH:
Well... To be honest: I feel quite a lot cheated by THQ, two times in a row!
First an on-line mode was announced for Space Oddity and then it has been removed, only because supposedly no more time existed to check it.

I have played OW2 on-line only on the DS, therefore you probably don't know me unless you own any other on-line-capable Worms and have met me by chance sometimes... My nick is always the same one: Thurbo. My team name is "Crazy Surprise", you gotta know this for the DS version coz there aren't any nicks.

I didnt have an opportunity to play it on the PSP through the Internet. I bought it right after the servers went down (oh, if I just had taken a few more looks at the forum :(). Therefore I've also been very disappointed. After all I wasted about 15 Euros:mad:
