This has been on my mind for quite a while. Anyone who plays roping games should understand what I'm talking about as well. I've always wondered just what determines when a worm will pick up a crate once your turn ends suddenly (ie: crashing, skidding, etc), and your worm happens to have a crate in their path. The worm will pick up the crate on some ocassions and other times get stopped by the crate. Just would like to know what determines that. Pretty silly question, but I want to know :).

I think it depends if the worm has sustained damage from falling or not.

You'll lose control of the worm from a particularly bad slide, but he may not have lost any health points - therefore sliding into the crate and collecting it as he careers to his doom.

However, if he has been hurt, I think he will rebound off the crate.

Yes, if you slide and lose your turn (or fall then slide), you won't get the crate.
If you slide and still keep your turn, you will get the crate.

To be clear enough, you can't have a crate by sliding if you have ended your turn, but you cant have crate by landing even if your turn is over.

but you cant have crate by landing even if your turn is over.
Your turn technically isn't over until you touch the ground, if you 'ended' your turn in the air.

That's actually not right, as I've on many occasions had my turn ended from skidding but will pick up the crate during the skid and on the same note have had many times when my turn has ended from skidding and I won't pick up the crate. It seems like I'll need CyberShadow to answer with a more techincal response. :)

The only thing I've noticed about the times when I will pick up the crate is if the worm hit the ground and bounced first before skidding into the crate.

for me it always seemed that the abitility to grab a crate ends with the nameplate coming down from the sky when your turn ends. as long as it isnt dropping down, your turn did not end yet and you can still grab crates.

so the question would be what determines the nameplate to drop :)

I suggested being hurt from the fall - you can fall and end your turn without being hurt: this might be when the crate thing happens.
