Hey guys, hot on the heels of the last MnP map comes a few more ideas. I know I said Alcatraz was next or POSSIBLY the Dojos. But consider these images and let me know what you think:

Personaly, I've seen or read any of LOTR in entirety, but a map based on those pictures would be epic (much like the last map:)).

Yes! The ruined citadel of Osgiliath!

You have to do it! :D

Make it a (multiple) CTF or an Axis vs. Allies map!

:-/

I've seen a lot of rather crude attempts at LOTR style maps in various games. Ok, they weren't for any Worms game, but still. If you do attempt it, it had better be amazing.
Your current track record however, is very promising.

LOTR eh?

Make a CTF-ish map. On the far left, make some sort of hobbit hole and on the far right, Mordor, with the volcano and the lava on the bottom. At the begining of the match one worm of the far left side is randomly selected to be Frodo. The far right side are the evil mordorians, their objective is to kill Frodo, if Frodo dies, it's game over. The far left side is supposed to protect Frodo and aid him to his destiny: jump into the lava on the far right of the map.

If the feature to make specialist worms ever comes into play we could make this more interesting. By having a worm that can only shoot arrows (Wormolas), another who can only use the axe (Araworm), and Frodo, who can cast invisibility on himself once in the game.

I have no idea how an escort mission is supposed to work in Worms, considering it's not hard to squirm into a position where you have a clear shot, and considering the worm can die in two shots of a bazooka.

And if you do have the invisibility idea, it'd range from near-impossible to hit to ridiculously easy to hit, I don't know how it'd work out. And he'd have to be a third team.

Map covers this aspect..

and considering the worm can die in two shots of a bazooka.

Yeah, in a world were you're forced to have bazookas and were worms always have less than 94 health.

There's so many reasons this is wrong I don't think it's worth my time going every single little aspect.

You need to play more worms if you want to come up with valid arguments, although, good job on the three team proposal.

If we get Fiddler compatibility and scripting, such an escort mission will be no problem at all.

I'm no LOTR fanboy but shouldn't that be Wormli?

That was what I was gonna say!

...an escort mission...

Mission-based MnP Scenarios (including new ones as well as older classics with new gameplay rules) will inevitably be designed in the future. I don't think today's worm audience would truly have the restraint to make sure they play by some unseen set of rules in a readme file that they naturally decided NOT to read. :D

But great idea, however largish it kind of seems (hobbit hole to mount doom inside of 30,000 pixels...)

Your current track record however, is very promising.

Thank you Alien King. I promise not to disappoint. Well, at least not disappoint myself. ;)

And thanks Roboslob and Robowurmz - appreciate the encouragement. This may HAVE to happen.

But I do have a question. And I probably could find the answer to this myself if I wanted to, but I figure I will pose it here:

How does CTF play in W:A? Is there a scheme file that places an actual flag in the game, or do people have to play it according to some set of rules?

The same with Axis vs Allies... is that just a fancy phrase for Forts-style, where no worms may cross the no-man's land ot the other fort while the battle rages on?

Also, if you were to say... place Alcatraz, Osgiliath, and Dojos next to each other, which one might be the best one for the next project?

I think a non-license level would be best next, personally. I'd vote for Dojos; you can keep Osgiliath for between Dojos and Alcatraz.

No wait, I'd vote of Alcatraz... Arkham Asylum style.

CTF is played on a symmetrical map (http://wmdb.org/1304) with one or more flags placed on each team's side.
(Although, there are maps where the flags are spread around both sides in the middle section of the map.)
You have to destroy one or all flags completely, that is, blast away all pixels of the flag and sometimes the flag pole too. There are no strike or homing weapons.

Axis vs. Allies is basically the same, but it always has multiple maps and the map is usually asymmetrically with on team having an advantage with higher ground.
The only map I know is this one: http://wmdb.org/512
Your D-Day idea would have fit perfectly for Avs.A.

I attached the scheme used for both game types, since nothing is on the Wiki yet.

Thanks bonz - very enlightening. I wonder if we will ever actually have a game-integrated CTF or AvA... An ingame AvA or CTF might even spawn randomly placed flags and such...

Yeah Normandy might be a good AvA one. I like the idea of having to destroy multiple targets.

By the way, I ran across this little gem of a website while tracking down some good research photos of Osgiliath:

http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/kb.php?mode=cat&cat=12

Vader, I too reallllly want to go Japanese on this next one. But man. Osgiliath might be an easier map to produce with so much great resource files such as these. Alcatraz is a SPECIAL situation and let me tell you what that situation is:

Alcatraz is Clogz's baby.

He made it back in Worms 2 Days before there were any bitmap level imports, even before black and white bitmap level imports. He did it all in that horrendous level editor with the big clumsy paint brushes and everything. In order to make a think line, he actually had to drawn a thick one and erase part of it using the eraser tool. Tedious friggin work. It was actually our "first" map. He made Titanic after that, which has sort of evolved.. heheh.

Here is the deal. He is trying to get started on Lothlorien, but he doesn't have near as much free time as I do, or he may just not be as obsessed as I. I work from 6 - 12. He works from 8 - 4:30. So, I suggested to him that I go ahead and start working on Alcatraz and he can provide me with much of the level's interior furniture and all the gooey details and stuff, like we did with Global Warming. He would be fine with that, if he weren't working on Lothlorien.

So the verdict on that is: If he gives up (temporarily) on the elves, then Alcatraz WILL BE NEXT. If not, I need something to hold myself off.

If not, I need something to hold myself off. You could make a map that had a cat in a cradle, a silver spoon, a little boy (blue), and a man in the moon.

Sorry guys... Osgiliath is probably going to get post-poned.

See what just took it's place. (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38235)
