View Full Version : W:A won't play online on vista x64

So I have a vista x64 computer. I installed WA on it, from a CD, then patched it to the newest beta. I can run the game, visit all the menus, even start a local game, but if I try to join a wormnet game, as soon it gets past "Connecting to server..." my game hangs. Only way to close the game is open task manager and kill it, and even then it takes a while to die.

Not sure where to go from here, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Do you have firewall software? It may be interfering with W:A or popping up a window behind W:A (which you can't access because W:A is locked up).

No firewall software installed. I am behind a rouuter, but that shouldn't stop me from joining, only hosting.

Get WormKit, and install the attached module. Run W:A via WormKit and get it to freeze, then press Ctrl+Break. W:A should close. Find the file FREEZE.DMP from your W:A folder and post it here as an attachment.

Alright, thanks for your help!

...the file is too big for an attachment here, I put it on my fileserver.

--edit--

Also, when I hit ctrl+break it doesn't close the game, but it does create the dump. If I pop the CD out of the drive it stops the game quite nicely.

Just out of curiosity, did you forward the correct ports?

It looks like the file "D:\data\streams\ingame-06-weird-alien-plan.wav" is unreadable - W:A freezes while trying to read the file. Can you read the file normally, e.g. copying it with Windows Explorer to your hard drive?Just out of curiosity, did you forward the correct ports? That's completely unrelated.

No, I cannot. Looks like it's time for me to find a new CD.

Thanks for your help!

Couldn't you just use the file override module and replace that file locally with a blank one or one of the others on the CD that is readable?
Assuming of course that it's just the one file...
