Hey everyone!

I have mentioned this a few times in the forums that I was going to be releasing our new maps for Worms: Armageddon and I am finally getting around to doing it. I will be releasing 3 maps over the next 3 weeks - each one a "next generation" version of an orginal mnp classic from many years ago. The "next generation" designation comes from the additional features in version 3.0 and up in Worms: Armageddon.

The three primary differences from the orginal version:

1. Map size has been increased (thank goodness for that)
2. The entire level has been redrawn from the ground up (lots of late nights)
3. No more dependency on the fiddler for a nice fine-tuned scheme file - much thanks to the great scheme format and fine tunings that have been added into the betas.

Anyway, we are really proud of these new levels and so each week we will be rereleasing 1 new map. On the fourth week, we will be releasing a brand new - never been seen or played - map that is truly our crowning achievement. Both myself and my buddy Jer really hope you guys enjoy these maps as much as we did creating and playing them like crazy.

I will say one final thing: These maps are pretty challenging and I hope that doesn't discourage many of you from trying them out. Please, please please let me know what you think.

There is a rather extensive readme in the RAR file describing the concept of the level, along with the scheme file and map file itself.

Happy battling and I look forward to your comments.

Edit: this doesn't mean that there's a virus in the .rar file - it looks like the website was hacked at one point and used to send malware to its visitors. Click the image for more information from Google.

you have to use the google advisor or some such to remove that warning for people visiting your site :/

I ignored that warning (because I got the balls) and checked that map (but not the scheme). It looks really awesome, I can imagine it's lots of fun playing on that one. Very good job.

Yes, my site got hacked... which is why I took down the front page. My asp was obviously not secure enough.

But, yes, please overlook that. And thanks for having the balls to check it out. Also, a serious thank you for your compliment on the level. I really hope everyone gets a chance to try it out.

EDIT: I submitted my site for review to Google. But that RAR file is 100% clean. I havn't actually even used my website in about a year and just the other day noticed I had a problem on it.

An embarassingly long time. The whole thing was done in Fireworks. 90% shapes and 10% image-manipulation. It can get pretty crazy especially toward the end of a match when everyone is up to their necks in sea-water.

if that ship map has some crazy borders on the top and bottom, i will sure like to play a t17 on it ,p
otherwise its not clear to me which scheme could be played on it.

I am not sure what you mean Lookias - a t17 on it?

The scheme file is included in the archive. Use that one.

yeah t17 (team17 scheme) is one of the schemes i like to play, so there are so many schemes. i guess i havent played half of them.

eidt: if you watch www.wmdb.org you will see that worms maps are normally made for common schemes. so what is to say about your scheme. is it a normal scheme or is it tricky, tactic or just awesome (like crazy sheep bng).

lDarKl
3 Jan 2009, 07:49
I just had a game on it with the scheme you provided.. Okay, the scheme still needs a little bit more action (explosive one) but the map is a real beauty. I love how it's playing tricks on me because it's not your average horizontal and flat map.
Are we going to see more like this one? Maybe suited for existing schemes like Fort or Capture the Flag? :)

Good work hundreds, can't wait to see what you've done with the Ewok Village one.

Amazing job! So much detail! The reason I don't do shading in my maps is because of the limited colour pallette, so I can only imagine how good this would look in full colour!

What are the other maps that will be redone?

3 Jan 2009, 12:35
Guys... Thanks a lot!

I was really not sure how everyone would receive this map, since it definitely is unlike any others.

To answer Lookias question about the scheme - the readme explains why we have a custom scheme: It is the Titanic and it sinks. You get a limited option set and therefore will be required to fight with what you got. The explosive mod is a bit crazy... but with all those mines and barrels you got some really tough decisions to make. It can be a little low on the "action" since you won't have super weapons and the like. But we really wanted it to be like 1912 - like what it might have been like on the ship.

To M3ntal: The funny thing is that you remember the Ewok Village!!! Sadly, that and Jabba's Palace are the only ones we have not remade.

lDarKl: That is one of the craziest points of the map. You start your turn at a certain horizontal level, and try to get higher and you find yourself thinking your getting somewhere when you really aren't! The ladder in the boiler room is always a fun optical illusion. It's buggy to figure out which way it is facing!

I have always thought about doing a Forts-Style one. And - believe it or not - I have NEVER played CTF on W:A. It has been a while since I played W:A and only recently have I gotten back into it.

raffie my man: As a sneak peek for next week, there will be another Titanic map released - one that was only designed in .BIT format a long time ago but also has been redone in "next gen" style. This one is definitely the harder one of the two and it will be centered on the final phase of the ship's sinking: the boat being 90 degrees straight up in the air! This one always gets me sea-sick! After that will be the next gen version of good old Air Force One. With the new heights allowed in the beta versions of W:A, you can really emulate the feel of an aircraft and how high it is from the ground. My buddy Jer designed this one and you guys are gonna crap when you see it.

The last one (for now) is called Global Warming and I will give you all some details about that at a later date. It is ALMOST done - 95.5% - and there are 3 of us working on it. It is very ambitious.

I have plans for atleast 2 more maps - one a very unique map similar in style to a BNG scheme but probably with a few added projectiles. Not sure about the name yet but it will be a simple one to produce, consisting of about 12 world war two style water crafts and a very tiny island with some radio equipment on it. The idea will be to have worms placed randomly on the ships with very little cover and see who has the best aim with Bazookas and Grenades to blow each other off the boats. The island will be a bit better cover, but really not much. I am looking forward to this one. The other one will be a Forts style map like I mentioned, but I am not quite solid on the theme yet.

To Run: I do this for you guys, man! Thanks!

Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

Most excellent!
Even more so since I now have a Full HD screen to play on. :D

I suppose you also remade Air Force One?
I really love that map and once even tried to make a mission for WWP, where you play the President and need to escape by parachute at the aft of the plane.

I really hope you get to remake Jabba's Palace and the Ewok Village though.
Speaking of CTF, there's a symmetrical CTF version of the Ewok map floating around somewhere.

We just assumed you guys were dead (http://computerhead.biz/forum/viewtopic.php?p=313) or something!

I don't really play WA, but the Meat and Potatoes caught my eye. I'll have to try these out.
I LOVED playing AF1 and Titanic A in Worms2. They're still on the Team17 ftp, in fact, from over ten years ago.

It's great to finally see you, so I can say thank you!
And I'd be grateful if you could pass on a thanks to Master Clogz Palpatine from me as well.

HOLY CRAP.

GoDxWyvern: It can't be said any better than that. Thank you sincerely. Get ready for even better ones over the next few weeks. "Global Warming" makes me sick to look at.

bonz: Worms in high resolution is incredible. It makes a very dated game look 100 times better. Now, when they finally get around to 32-bit color. We will be releasing them again with no dithering and in full 16 million colors. Can't wait! Air Force One was remade as well as is on its way. I am mainly waiting on Master Clogz to finish writing the readme. I would never have thought those old levels were still floating around. In fact, back in the day, I didn't think anyone even liked our old levels! A CTF Ewok village mod? Hah!

I will say this about Jabba's Palace: Clogz and I have decided not to do that one again for the same reason we decided not to do the Aliens 2 LV-426 level that we had planned. Levels like that tend to just look real pretty but play too much like a random-generated map. There is not real spice to them. Titanic creates a feeling of dread and insists on strategic paced gameplay. Air Force One is a jet way up in the sky from which you will be able to ninja rope and all sorts of opportunities for showboating exist. Jabba's Palace, like I said, looked great... but always struck me as more of a work of art and not really designed with a specific game style in mind. The Ewok Village is another story. Master Clogz has been talking about that one and wanting to redo it with much higher trees and of course a better look and feel. We have just been so busy on Global Warming that it took a back seat for now.

To Regulator: I read that thread there and was shocked that people were still talking about MNP in 2006, and very happy to see that our "fans" stuck up for us and didn't allow credit to go to someone else (vertigo?) for our maps. I would, however, like to see some of his stuff at some point.

When you say Titanic A, do you mean the version where the ship is still afloat? Because we did Titanic A (still a float) in black and white format only, then B (the one here), then C (a titanic ship broken in half with splinters everywhere), D (the one I will be rereleasing soon) and finally even an E version which was JUST LIFEBOATS - a map that will be revisited when I make my next map described further up in this thread. But Clogz and I are definitely happy you enjoyed it and AF1. AF1, in fact, although Clogz designed it in full, was actually my favorite because I love showboating with the rope! And then I die. But Global Warming is fast becoming my favorite now after the countless matches of playtesting I have done on it.

And a very dear "YOUR WELCOME" from us. We look forward to revitalizing the scene at least for a while. You see, we are both very well married now. I just celebrated my 7th year in October. Clogz has been married I think 6 years now. And I just recently welcomed into the world my first child - a baby boy in September. So things have gotten a little tight as far as time is concerned to working on worms levels. My wife often comes in, rolls her eyes, and I then proceed to explain to her that I am not "playing" worms - I am making artwork! So, although the levels may come to you slower than we'd like, I think I am back on the wagon and rolling strong.

I still can't believe you remember Clogz's last name was Palpatine for a while there!

To Mister Run: That is a good question. I have them all on my computer here and they WERE on teh website, till it got hacked and I had to delete all the pages so Google wouldn't keep giving me a bad name. But I will post them probably today, maybe tomorrow, after I get a chance to remake the scheme files since the originals were all about the Fiddler which I can't use with the betas.

It is really fun to compare the quality and workmanship to the originals. I used to think they were so hot, until we remade them and pretty much will never be looking back again! I will work on getting those to you guys ASAP but right now, my boy just woke up and I gotta go.

Thanks again!

Oh!
I remember having see Titanic A, but I didn't know that there are three more maps!
I would really love to see all 5 of them remade and revamped.
That would make an awesome set for a tournament with different schemes/game modes.

His work never really suited my style, but i've uploaded a pack for you here (http://www.geocities.com/si8490/Vertigo.zip) containing BnG, Rope and Uno. (Note for others: these maps/schemes are for Worms 2)

When you say Titanic A, do you mean the version where the ship is still afloat? Yessir. You have to register and log in to Des's site before you're able to view the downloads, so I guess the screenshots don't show either. I enjoyed Titanic A in monochrome, as that's the only colour option for W2 maps anyway. I have to admit I haven't played any of your levels on WA yet! I'm looking forward to it.

When you are talking about originals I assume you're talking about the originals for WA, but if anyone is interested, the originals for W2 are still up on the T17 ftp here (ftp://ftp.team17.com/pub/t17/worms2/landscapes/).

Yeah, way back in teh day, I knew Paul Robinson and Martin over there at Team 17. We got in good with them and they enjoyed our levels too. I wonder where they are now?

Congrats on that baby. Mine is 4 months...

I went ahead and repacked the classic versions of the Titanic levels in W:A format since nobody really plays W2 anymore... Here are the links on my site:

I don't really recommend playing them, no scheme files created or anything. They are just for archival and sentimental reasons I guess.

http://www.mnpp.net/files/worms/TitanicE-ClassicMono.rar

Also, here is Titanic B before we redesigned it:

http://www.mnpp.net/files/worms/TitanicB-ClassicColor.rar

When I release AF1 Next Gen, I will repack AF1 Classic as well so you can compare. Ewok Village needs some messing with. I never meant for the level to have a border all the way around it, but rather that it would be cavern style with a border on the top ONLY. If anyone remembers how to do that, can you let me know? Once I get that squared away, I will repack Ewok Village and Jabba's Palace. (hmmm, might need to figure out how to make Jabba's palace have NO borders but still run in Cavern style... any ideas?)

Oh and those Vertigo maps seem to be a broken link I think...

Thanks,
Beefy

Right click on the border button in W:A. Or, if you insist on doing it with a hex editor, look at http://worms2d.info/Monochrome_map_(.bit) (the same applies to colour maps)

In particular: 0x08 - Cavern - Whether Worms treats the map like a cavern, with a ceiling, or an island. A value of 0 means island, while a nonzero value means a cavern.

Also, in the in-game map editor you can toggle full border and top border only by left-clicking and right-clicking respectively on the yellow border button.

When I was trying to do it before the edit, every single capital letter was being reset (ie, in my nick, at the beginning of sentances, in W:A, etc) to lower case. After I editted it with that remark it worked fine.

Wow, you're good at reading today :p

(the code for the full borders is:

0x10 - No Indestructable Borders - A setting of 0 puts an indestructable border on all sides of the map and forces it to behave like a cavern. A nonzero setting is equivalent to "off".)

I'd really like to see you two redoing all of your maps, including Jabba's Palace.
You can always put that one to the bottom of the to-do list.

The beta updates have made the WA community used to waiting months and years for something. :)

Say, do you actually have color versions of all the Titanic maps? I'm talking about the ones you only released as monochrome .bit files.

franpa
4 Jan 2009, 15:16
no, or else why update the monochrome ones to work with W:A if he already had working colour ones? -.-

hundreds
4 Jan 2009, 15:17
Nope I sure don't. The "Classic" series were based on old limitations and the only one we colorized was B. That one, as you now know, has been remade with much fewer limitations. Definitely no plans on colorizing those old ones. Maybe someday we will remake them all in "Next Gen" format, but no promises on that.

Jabba's Palace huh... I really am shocked that people like that one. It can be placed on the todo list I suppose. But it is a long list. :)

I've been playing Worms offline since 1996 with W1, later with W2 and WA.
My Worms online debut was in early 2001 with WWP. That's where I stumbled across the 4 MnP colour maps first, believing them to be official T17 maps because of their great artistic skill and their similarity to the intrinsic mission maps.

I later switched back to WA when the early betas fixed the nuke crash bug and have been stuck there ever since.
My online nick on WormNet 1&2 has always been 'bonz' though.

Actually, there's already a user account called MnP (http://www.wmdb.org/MnP) there with your 4 classic maps and the Ewok CTF remake.
But I guess that it was you who posted them under that alias. AFAIK, you can post new maps with the same alias though.

Hey long time I posted in THIS thread. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that since the release of Worms Reloaded, Titanic B has been a BIT rehashed. I went ahead and replaced all furniture that was still based on bitmaps and made a few adjustments to the smoke stacks. This SHOULD be the last revision to this map before we get started on the custom background layers... eventually.

You can get the updated version of Titanic B here at our website (http://www.mnpp.net/?p=1).
