Is it possible to make .WAgame files accessible if copied while the game is in progress?

not without ending the program using it :)

No... you didn't understand my statement. I am able to copy a .WAgame file that is locked/in-use/opened/whatever by WA (i.e. during the game)... it's just that it can't be accessed. I mean, I can access a .WAgame file if the game ended due to a power failure... why would I not be able to access a file that has been copied during the game?

EDIT: I mention: the copied file is not used by another application- it is just not accessible; I can't export the map, scheme, log, view it or whatever.

No. This is to prevent things like checking out what weapons your opponent has in a T17, and things like that. The replay locking was built in on purpose.

:o, yea it probably sets a bit in the replay file that prevents it from being played. copying the file does not bypass this change.

Okay. But, what's the difference between a copied replay and a replay resulted during a game crash/power outage?

I mean I can make full use of a .WAgame file created during a game that crashed, but not of one that I copied while the game was running...

probably sets the protection during the Minimize function?

Nope! I copy the file through the network, that is, from another computer while playing on one computer.

So, if you copy the file over the network while the game is running fine, the replay won't open? hmm, I can't think of what W:A does then, wait for Cybershadow to reply or something ^^"

I have a weird hunch he won't. =D
Thanks for bothering, Franpa! I wish you a Happy New Year!

This is done using a Windows feature. The file is locked until the game ends or WA.exe is killed (so a file can't be forever locked), for the reasons Koen mentioned.

*sigh* No, what I am saying is that I am able to make a copy of the locked file, the problem is that I can not use it as a regular .WAgame file (once again, the copy of the locked file isn't locked). I was wondering if there's a way to make it work. And I believe there's a way because I think a copy of a locked file is equivalent with the file itself in case the game crashes or if there's a power outage causing a sudden system shutdown. The difference is that I can't use the copy, but I can use the .WAgame file if the game crashed/system shut down due to a power outage. Or... maybe the copying method I'm using alters the file... anyways, Thanks!

I think your confused or did not make it clear what your after MihaiS :/

I've clearly stated the circumstances. I'm not confused at all. The copied locked file does not comply to the normal .WAgame file standards. I need to know how to turn the copied file into a valid replay file.

Why must you watch the replay while the game is in progress?

MihaiS

I don't want to watch the replay. I want to export the log.

why not wait till the game ends?

Well, I want to find out who's the annoying /anon ****er that's spamming the chat (then kick him).

your not going to find a solution here, as people would use the solution for cheating.

The only solution is going to be finding out after the game and then adding him to a mental blacklist so you never have to put up with him again

What happened to your previous tutorial?

Wouldn't a program like wireshark reveal it?

IIRC, once the game-resuming feature based on replay files is introduced on a secure, ranked server, anonymous and whispered messages won't be available in plain text in extracted logs, since the replays will be encrypted (and compressed).

The noob kicking one.

I can kick a player, but I cannot always identify the offender or the spammer if other players send messages at the same time...

As I said, use wireshark.
