Which do you prefer, soap bars or liquid. Also, why?

I voted soap bars, but not because of any inherent preference, but because it is all I have ever known (We also have a really nice coconut one. It smells gorgeous). It is like...it is like it is a part of me now, you know? I cannot toss aside such a long and carefully crafted relationship at this point. For better and for worse, we will be together until the bitter end.

In fact, I am trying to recall if I have ever even HEARD of liquid soap, let alone seen or used it.

liquid. not much a fan of the idea of lathering myself with the same bar everyone else in my family has been rubbing all over their hairy bits.

even now being married I prefer the liquid version. it's just plain simpler.

and for the record, I've used bars most of my life. I just found the wonders of liquid a couple years ago and boy am I glad.

I have a bar of soap, at halls I carry it backwards and forwards between the shower and my sink, that way only I can use it :p

I prefer liquid soap, as it doesn't slip out of my hands so easily when using it :p

Liquid soap is fine in principle, but I tend to use bars more.

I prefer liquid. Mostly due to it's ease of usage. Though I like bars right out of the packet.

In my job at a biotech lab only liquid soap is feasible.
I have carried that over for home use a few years ago for the sink, and recently I bought one for the kitchen too.
You know, washing-up liquid isn't good for your skin.

I've been using shower gels for hair and body for the last 8 years now.

Bars.

Because liquid soap is less likely to be allergy friendly. I know there's a few out there, but most seem to think they have to have strong fragrances, and some liquid soaps are quite harsh on the skin. Makes hands dry and horrible.

Also, soap bars make it easier to clean a particular spot. Liquid soap tends to ooze around, which just makes it worse if it's harsh on the skin.

Sometimes mounted on the wall so that you can hold your hand under and press. As you would find in just about every airport, concert venue, shopping centre, etc.

I have not seen them at ANY of those things. :-/ I do not doubt this mythical "liquid soap" exists, but in any case, I see no reason to investigate or try switching, in the same way I would see no reason to switch to BARS if I had been brought up with liquid.

How can soap bars be dirty? Aren't they of a self cleaning nature? Do you really get dirty by using a dirty soap bar?

Nobody claimed they were dirty. It's more of an irrational 'ewww' factor, especially in regards to inconsiderate people who leave hairs on the soap. Although, unless you have an anti-bacterial soap, I guess it could have germs on it.

Having done a quick search, I see what you guys mean now. I would never have thought to call THAT "liquid soap," which in hindsight was probably silly of me. Regardless, still never used it.

Soap (and detergents, which are actually used in most products today) is anti-bacterial by default. In fact, anti-a lot of micro organisms.
Their ability to dissolve fats easily disrupts the cell membranes of many micro organisms.

As in many areas, I'm a traditionalist when it comes to soap. I prefer bars, possibly of French origin and taste, although good old Fa works nicely too. But I must admit I'm quite happy I have my own bathroom after reading some of the hairier stuff in this thread. Harharahar.

I've nothing against liquid soap, of course. It's the only form that works in public places and we even buy it sometimes for the bathrooms, but its usage has always remained limited to washing hands... as far as I know. :(

Liquid, partly because of all the reasons above, and partly because i got fed up of soap bars trying to merge themselves with whatever I put them on - usually the sink. Liquid is just so much less hastle all round.
