View Full Version : A bit of advice for you nippers...

Traxada

Just a blurb of advice before I bugger off again, if you want your art to improve....

- Stop drawing Anime skipy haired things, they are boring models with no facial construction and no challenge to draw

- Stop just drawing worms, just drawing worms over and over again won't get you anywhere, try some landscapes or hey even humans!

- Stop thinking paint is the greatest program in the world, pull your 15 year old finger out and put a pencil to paper. Once you know your onions with pencil and paper, then you can move onto digital work. The latter does not come before the former.

Buh bye.

Note to newer users: Trax is quite possibly one of the best artists there is, Worms or no worms.

Really? Then surely he can come up with better advice? Not some obvious crap anyone with a bit of common sense can come up with?

Or wait, is this a "I am leaving please remember me and cry my absence" attention seeking threads? because I'm clueless.

Evidently not the large majority of those who post in the fanart forum...

Trax hardly ever visits these forums anyway. He's far too awesome for that.
Trax IS respect.

I think you seem to have forgotten who resides in the fan art forum these days.

And for those who need proof that Trax is still only one of the few brilliant artists to ever visit the FanArt forum, the following is recommended reading:

Traxada was one of the few artists I've seen on this forum who has an actual art style. Someone who is actually an artist. Some one who can actually draw! Just because you can put a pencil to paper, or click a mouse doesn't make you an artist. Far, far from it. And to actually have a drawing style is clearly a rare commodity on this forum.

Dragattin (I think that's his name, or it's something pretty similar) is the only new artist I've seen on this forum, for a loooooong time, who can actually draw well.

There is no kind of sense on the FanArt forum that can be described as "common". Well, except for nonsense.

Now include this in the Fanart rules :p.

While obviously people should draw things other than Worms, they should not put them here (Unless it was FanArt from another Team17 game, but we all know that is impossible as the Worms series are the only games they ever made).

yauhui
22 Aug 2008, 10:46
Forgotten about Lemmings? I don't really consider it as a part of "Worms".

p.s. According to the Dream17 Softography (http://www.dream17.co.uk/softography.php), Worms arent the only games.

arrogant or not, Trax is right about drawing something different than Worms.
I like drawing skulls, hazard signs like radioactivity and biohazard trefoils, self invented Logos, designing CD covers and so on. but also comic style drawings.

about "Anime skipy haired things", which are "boring models with no facial construction and no challenge to draw":
everyone his own style. I like it more comic style, which also include manga style (you probably gonna kill me for this now), but as long as it looks good, it's OK. further more, this is just so... aw, forget it.
if you draw your worm just tidy, without any features, that doesn't make your worm any better (I hope you know what I mean. if not: same thing as in comics, just good drawn, but no plot, no good)

People who draw cartoons are for the most part ignored by the rest of the society. In these forums they are like rock stars. And sometimes it gets to their brains.

Traxada doesn't just draw comics. He is an artist. A real artist. You know, a REAL one.

That's why he rules supreme.

Just to clarify, I'm not a comics artist, or worms artist or whatever. I'm an animator now and stop portraying me as some sort of art demi god, I just know a few tricks and I'm trying to pass em on. Somewhat unsuccessfully it seems.

Well the one's who listen are the ones who are going to find it most the useful, the rest of you buggers, well, bollocks to ya really.

Hell no!
Spend the amount of time needed to fulfill it to your standards, that doesn't always mean spending "loads" of time on it.

(Granted I'm being a total hypocrite when I say that. But then, I probably spend longer writing my jokes than drawing the accompanying cartoon, so I do spend loads of time... on the bit I have high standards for).

We also have a rule about reporting things instead of posting things like that. Why does nobody seem to remember that one?

Because that rule sucks.
I'm almost always left wondering what the reason was when my posts get deleted. With backseat moderating I can see who complained and for what reason, while with silently reporting I never find out who and why. :(

No, you only think you can see that. Mods read a tiny minority of threads here, so complaints in the thread body are almost always ignored. If a post is deleted, it's far more likely to be because of a report than a reply, even when there is a post -- not least because I for one always delete the reply too.

We (at least, I) don't want you to know who grassed, and telling people off in the thread makes discretion problematic.

Mostly though, it makes the place look like it's full of nasty bureaucrats, and I'd like people to be here at least an hour before they figure that out.

Here is my observation about FatArt...

AndrewTaylor, that is win :Dand yet entirely legitimate. I've seen a number of worm drawings that look startlingly similar to that boot.

and stop portraying me as some sort of art demi god, I just know a few tricks and I'm trying to pass em on. Somewhat unsuccessfully it seems.never quite got that. I mean, you were always pretty good at art but we've had better and worse in nearly every aspect of what you did while here. while you were here you were considered among the best, as was logical given your talent, but since you've left your status has gone through the roof to being some form of art god or something....and even worse people like Slick get nothing but ridicule or get ignored these days.

I'm wondering if creativity is just not allowed here :p

Maybe most of people here are not used to see work of true art gods. Then they sees some very well done worm painting or drawing and they go nuts over it, because that the limit that they saw in their lifes
Of course Traxada have a load of talent so does Slick, but f*ck, they're just people and they're no different from anyone here (excpet for the facts that they art rules, of course)
So people should just say "Hey your work is great. You are very talentous and I would really like to see more of your work" and not "OMG LOL YU'RE TEH KING YO KNOW?? GOD I LOVE YOU, I WANNA HUG YOU, KISS YOU, PUT MY TONGUE ON YOUR MOUTH!! OIH GOD LET'S HAVE BABIES AND START A FAMILY! IT WILL BE GREAT!! YOU MAKE TAH MONEY WITH YOU ART GOD SKILLS AND I TAKE CARE OF THE BABIES!!! DID I SAY YOU'RE AWESUM???"

So start thinking before licking so much ass. Make a good comment and that's all

Too many english errors on my post?! Well I don't care

The problem is that most forum communities need an attribute to measure how much they respect someone else. This is becuse real objective coolness is hard to show on the internet and most nerds do not know what it is. So cool people are those capable of crafting things nerds find cool. This is why being cool on the internet is really not being very cool at all.

In this forum's case is the ability to draw worms in MSPaint. That makes you cool. If you manage to draw three awesome pictures of worms in one week it's the same as banging three different hotties in a night. That's the relation between cool and internet cool.

I'm critizing the bunch of people that act like art groupies around them...it's ridiculous
