I am dissapointed that, oddly, most recent games that everyone is buying and enjoying don't really seem to catch my attention. I've been struggling for a while to find a game that will do what Chrono Trigger, Half-Life, Halo, and so many other games did for me on the past.
But there doesn't seem to be any games that fit that category nowadays.

So, I'll just post a list of games I have really enjoyed and then hope that one of you can suggest a game I haven't heard about that might fit my needs. Far fetched? Maybe.

Anyway, I'm looking preferably for a PC game, Single Player(yup, no multiplayer), that is WinXP compatible, and that can be purchased online and downloaded. Other alternatives include Wii/VC games, and Mac games(AHAHAHA YEAH RIGHT. :p).

Ideally, I would like either a First Person Shooter or an RPG. Something with a cool, inmersive, preferably long story, and with likeable characters. Preferably with plenty of sidequests if it's an rpg, since I like wasting time with them for some reason :p
Games with a * are the ones that most closely resemble what I'm looking for right now.
Feel free to suggest other genres anyway, I'll surely check them out.

The best game ever, IMO. Awesome mixture of FPS and RPG in the cyber-punk genre.
There soon will be a high-texture, high-polygon mod and a custom Unreal 1 engine mod which wil make this older game even more epic than it already is.

Has that nice science-fiction touch with time travel and mad scientists.

You'd think I'd prefer it for the same reasons, but there's something more fun about Monkey Island.

I consider that as part of the "sequels" of HL2, given that Black Mesa is referenced during the game, and Aperture Science is referenced in Episode 2. ;)

Oooh right, Deus Ex, never got around playing that one. Also forgot about Bioshock, hopefully that'll do it for a while.

As for the Spore creature creator, it won't let me purchase it because it's not available in my country (Mexico)...
I tried trough fileplanet and trough EA's website. I haven't tried other sites because I do not know other trustworthy sites that allow online download purchases.

I just started playing the first Monkey Island, never played any of them before. It's awesome :)

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is my LucasArts adventure game of choice. :p

I probably only prefer it because of the nostalgia, though. One of the first computer games I ever played, after all.

SupCom's pretty neat, but you'll need a computer with a very healthy appetite (although saying that, I got mine to run - not very well, but it did run and it was playable if you didn't make it think too hard - on a laptop, so hey. Biggest problem is that SupCom is eight gigs taken out of your hard drive, and Forged Alliance another eight).

On the other hand, there's always Total Annihilation, SupCom's spiritual predecessor. Still runs on XP (although for some reason my copy crashes whenever it tries to make an ARM aircraft carrier. Weird). The tough part with that is getting it, though.

Worth mentioning that the Forged Alliance expansion really increased the performance of the game. It used to be that only computers with dual core processors could play the game with little lag once lots of units started piling up and fighting while single core machines would lag tremedously. But now with FA we can play the game fine on our school computers which are only Pentium 4's with a gig of ram and have 8600 Gt's.

RTS's are mostly better online, tho.
I can't play online much mostly because my mother is almost always downloading stuff, and eats pretty much all the bandwidth. :P
And I don't have much time for it either.

supreme commander takes hours to do anything for the most part, so if time is an issue AT ALL, go for something else :p

also, thanks bonz. you reminded me I've been meaning to give bioshock another shot (first time I couldn't hear the story over all the gunshots, so I gave up after I realized I had no idea what I was doing). forgot how great it was :)

If you're just interested in multiplayer there is no reason to get the bundle, you can just get Forged Alliance since it's completely stand alone. The SupCom singleplayer campaign is very dull anyway..

I tried a fix I read somewhere, but then it runs iiiiinnncccreeeeeedddiiibbbllllyyyyyy ssssssslllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....

The CD version of Deus Ex runs at completely normal speeds on my (single core) 2 GHz CPU with 1GB RAM and a GF 7900GS with 256MB.

- If you have a dual-core machine, disable one of the cores for the process through the Task Manager.
- If you have a laptop, disable CPU Power Managent in the Control Panel Power Options. (and disable any other dynamic CPU control shenanigans that you may have)
- Turn on V-Sync. (video setting)
- Try compatibility modes.
- Try using the commandline option -cpuspeed=X (X being a mhz value like 2000 or 1500 or whatever works)
- Try enabling cheat mode and inputting "slomo X" to change the speed. (X being 1 for normal speed, 0.5 for half speed, etc.)

I think I've got it to work with a combination of disabling one of the cores trough Task Manager and using the -cpuspeed=x command. :D
I just hope it keeps working all trough the game since I've heard some people still get hiccups after implementing one of this fixes. :p
