I stopped playing at that red remake for the GBA. I loved it, to some extent. (I REMADE my team from the old game... felt good :))

Anyways, the new ones, do indeed suck. They don't have the same feeling anymore. And even though I say the more the merrier, they are just pulling the frachise to its limits.

Even the Gold/Silver ones where not off yet... But take a look on the older legendaries, and on the new ones... Articuno and That Palkia or whatever. They don't represent anything now. Just a fancy design.

newer pokemon do suck, and i agree with that comic-strip. The designers have went way over the top and made the majority of them look like robotic animals with metallic coatings. The originals were great but now these just blow.

The red version remake only has the original 150 before the elite four, and you can't even get above 151 through trades before you beat the game... Then, the rest is like an add-on, like some extra islands. Well, I haven't played in years, so maybe it's not EXACTLY like that, but I remember it was well done.

Well Pokemon lost me as soon as bloody Togepi (spelling) was introduced. He was an annoying little mo fo. They have pushed the franchise too far, thinking that adding new Pokemon will make up for the fact that every new release is essentially the same game with better graphics. Red, blue, green and yellow were all the same games only with different Pokemon (aside from the Pikachu that followed you around in Yellow) but I didn't mind then because the franchise then was something new and generally original.

and shadowmon, the new pokemon do, indeed, suck. they've lost thier creativity. all of the originals looked like they were elemental incarnations of whatever alignment they were. they were very original characters with a life of their own. I've just gone and looked at the differences between the originals and the new ones, and the originals all make sense, I can guess what they are based on their appearance. the gold & silver ones are more borderline but probably about half of them are still fairly good. by whatever the next series was they were completely out of ideas and all of the pokemon were just random characters with nothing linking them together at all. not only can I not tell what elemental alignment they are, I can't even tell what they're supposed to be. it's sort of like the square characters of today. the new ones are fine if taken at face value but when comparing them to the originals that were actually GOOD, they don't compare.

I found this great example of what I meant. Eevee looks very neutral and you can't really peg it with any element. flareon looks like he's made of fire. vaporeon looks like a mermaid, so logically it would be water-aligned. jolteon looks like he just stuck his finger in a light socket, so lightning makes sense there. Ubreon looks pretty much like darkness. the design could be better, to me, but it still works. espeon is the same way, I could somewhat guess the psychic alignment, but it could definitely be better. leafeon? yeah, the name says that it's a plant type, but looking at it it looks like it's got the fire from ponyta or rapidash except that it's green. bulbasaur is a good example of a grass pokemon, but leafeon is barely even related to grass at all. now, glaceon? yeah, no idea on that one. it's listed as ice, but it's not even remotely similar to any ice I've ever seen. it just looks blue to me.

I grew up with Ruby and Sapphire, and the games don't suck, its also got better graphics and is more exciting and mysterious, and it also has dive which is fun to use.

Also, the Regi's are reasonable. The only pokemon i hate are: Shaymin, Combee, Delbird, Unown, Drowsee and Hypno, Wobbuffet, Caterpie, Beedril, one pokemon with a paintbrush tail, and Butterfree and Kakuna and Castform.

Nope. As Mew was only attainable as a prize of whatever Pokemon competitions are held, if there weren't the newer compo-only Pokemon then Mew would always be the prize. Meaning there'd be a whole lot more Mews being given out. So by introducing newer compo-only Pokemon, Mews are actually kept rarer.

Well, that's if Mew was a compo-only Pokemon. But it's not, due to cheating devices such as Action Replay and for the fact that Red/Blue/Green had a glitch where you could catch it normally.

Exactly. Powerfull pokemon are cool, to me. Only exception for me is pikachu.

Also, because it hasn't been mentioned before: what are people's opinions on the doubles battle mode in the third generation onwards games?

To be honest, I quite liked it. It has a LOT of strategy involved, specially including some passive habilities. Examples:

-Earthquake AFFECTS YOUR PARTNERS, but if they are the flying type... saved. Also with a passive skill called levitation, (example: koffing gained it) that makes you immune to earth attacks.

-Some attacks are stronger, but deal damage to one, while others, weaker, to both... and dealing with their type, etc.

-There was a passive skill that absorved all electric attacks on the field (unless the one who casts them are the owner of the skill), dealing no damage. The trick is that it saves your partner from the other ones... but your partner's also get absorved by the electric eating pokemon.

And many more I forgot. There's quite a lot of potencial, but since in the original games there wasn't double battles... I didn't try it a lot. Just in the end of the game.

Oh, and can't use two on one wild pokemon :p it's kinda fair and unfair at the same time...

And then there's strategies such as Tank & Nuker, where you have one pokemon with a really high attack and you have the other pokemon with a really high defense, where it knos a move whereby all enemies has to attack the high-defense pokemon.

You know you're getting old when Kids Today have no idea what Pokemon was all about when it started. And when they think that the GBA/DS versions are the definitive games. Tch.

Interesting Sidenote: The MissingNo. glitch once allowed me to capture a Level 255 Kangaskhan with ridiculously high stats. It took me two hours and a LOT of items to capture the bugger. I used it against the Elite Four, and after the first battle it levelled "up" to Level 1, however it kept all of its stats for Attack and Defense. I embarrassed a lot of friends by betting I could beat them with my "low-level" Kangaskhan. Made a little bit of money with that, too.

You know you're getting old when you don't know who the newer Legendaries are. Sure, I'm betting all of you know who the first five were. Some of you might remember the next six, and after that I'm guessing very few of you would know any of them beyond the five robot-like ones.

Eh, if I remember rightly, the 8th was Giavonni, and I don't believe he had an element. He just used a lot of tough Pokemon, but it's been a really long time since I played R/B/Y.

I had no reason to disbelieve you really. More I was correcting your gross errors in your original statements that did not constitute proof.
I could easily just look on some Wiki somewhere regarding the old pokemon games to find out facts. Although your errors suggest you didn't do that, in fact they do suggest you played the game, but forgot huge quantities of things and thus sort of do prove that you played the game, but not in the way you intended.

I suggest dropping the whole thing now. In fact it would probably be best if these last few posts regarding this issue were deleted. Or at least moved into that pokemon thread.

for this month's Fanartist of the Month, the theme was Pokemon as worms.

I immediately started thinking back. what was my favorite pokemon? why? what pokemon do I think looks coolest now? well, looking back I realized my old favorite was kabutops. I still like him, and so I wanted to draw a worm as kabutops. unfortunately, i couldn't think of anything decent with a kabutops worm. I thought through other pokemon and actually started one with a wartortle. after finishing that worm I decided it wasn't that interesting, so I thought again. I came up with the idea to do a kabuto worm. unfortunately, that pokemon doesn't lend itsself well to being worm-ified. well, my solution to that problem was simply attaching the kabuto TO a worm. well, the next step was obvious and made this image a must-draw
