Recently, chemists and those involved in nanotechnology have begun to explore the possibility of creating molecular motors de novo. These synthetic molecular motors currently suffer many limitations that confine their use to the research laboratory. However, many of these limitations may be overcome as our understanding of chemistry and physics at the nanoscale increases. Systems like the nanocars, while not technically motors, are illustrative of recent efforts towards synthetic nanoscale motors.

Oh, yeah. I used to try. Not anymore though, at least for this forum. I'm not going to rant about why I don't anymore.

But sheesh people, something different for a change. 90% of the art here is basically the SAME stuff.

You don't need to make the same outline and the same repetitive frame. This style is just an example of something different.
I just start with:

http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/6430/hattlololzpy3.png

...and then fill it in with details. If people would start doing this, and made forum comics... THAT would be entertaining.

Anywho... Might do another set of 4 worms, then actually stop. Meh. MEH!

Well he obviously does want to post artwork because that is precisely what he has just done. I think what he means is that he won't be posting artwork often (if ever again).

Also he makes a decisively good point when he says 90% of the artwork here is the same. Naturally that is an inevitability considering this is a Team17 Forum meaning 99.9% of the artwork here is going to be directly related to worms. Excuse him for trying to add an element of diversity. He's not asking to be ass kissed and granted most people do kiss his ass on this forum (myself included :)). But it is not something that he's asking for. People do it because they like his artwork.

You sir, have no eye for art. I understand why people might be under the impression that we are applauding slick's work just because he's slick, but the art is truly fantastic. It takes a good eye to notice the greatness of deformity and exaggerated expressions in artwork when done right.

Pffft! Ahahahaha! If I had an "ego" this post would of hurt my feelings. Constructive criticism on this forum will only apply to those who listen to it. So in other words, it's pointless.
What I was stating was a fact. We have people who use the same type of expressions over and over. A worm facing to the right with mouth open slightly, and a worm to the left with mouth closed. Or vise versa. So when saying people should mix it up to make things at least a little suspenseful as to what might appear... Don't jump off the handle and attack someone.

If you don't want to post stuff anymore then don't. No one needs to hear you go on and on about how the place isn't worthy of your time.
Erm, duh? If I don't want to post anything I don't. Since in this rare occasion I did actually feel like posting something I whipped up here... I thought "hey maybe someone would like the style, maybe copy off it, since it's easier that hell to do, and then could make something interesting with it".

And no this place isn't worthy of my time. Nor is it worthy of half the people who post art here. Their talent should be used where it is more appreciated.
You make it sound like I think of myself as a high and mighty person. HA. If thats the case... you are the one who is putting me on the pedestal above you, not me.
I have a good number of reasons why I don't put that much effort into what I post here anymore. They are all valid reasons, and if you search, you can find them. Don't make me out to be such a *****, would ya? I'd post them here again but only about half of you read what others post anyways, so why bother repeating myself?
Besides all that:
There were those days when it used to be awesome. That was a looong time ago. :(
^^^^I'm not the one who brought it up. I was just replying to this. Yeesh.

I mean holy crap you act like people should be kissing the ground you walk on...and judging from the responses people basically do, so go figure.

Right, thats what it is. I was wondering why I was such a douche bag... but you've really helped me out with this. Thanks.
I used to want a little thing called respect here. That's all. Sorry for wanting something that everyone deserves. I don't think my art is great, good, or even 'OK'. It still takes time and energy to do though. I don't ask to be treated like a god or anything. I don't even want that. Where you got that idea from is beyond me.

Long post short: Keep the art, Lose the attitude.
Get over it.

You're missing the point though. He registered on these forums before a few people and started drawing Worms on the internet before many others. He is therefore allowed to use crap humour, lame jokes and the 'I don't care' attitude and you should applaud* him for it.

That is a terrible attitude that makes no sense and promotes elitism. If everybody thought like that what the hell would we talk about? Oh wait, that is right, "LOL ITS SLICK AWESOME I REQUEST PLZ!"

See, I dunno about you lot, but I do not class comments like that as the respect that Slick was talking about. It just devolves into spam fest. I obviously cannot speak for him, but I would have thought he would be happy if he was getting constructive criticism or just REAL comments. But he does not seem to, he just gets said LOL AWESOME posts (Or for that matter LOL SUCKS posts) or random stuff that has nothing to do with anything. And then it turns into some argument like this one (And admittedly once I seem to recall I had a part in that, so I am just as guilty if not more so than anyone :().

While I see where people like Gnomeman are coming from and somewhat agree, you also have to bear in mind why things devolved into this. Of course, I was not around back in older times, so I might just be spewing rubbish, but I imagine it is the same thing that happens to his threads like these; spammy comments and offtopic stuff and suchlike. And from what I have seen he really put a lot of effort into his older stuff. I think I remember him saying that it does not matter what he does, crap like this always happens. And it seems to be true. And hell, I am adding to it! And I probably have no idea what on earth I am talking about!

The way I see it, it's like this:
Is your worms style consistent? No? Then you fail. That principle applies to new people, and it applies to veterans too, no exceptions.
Unless you're going for an abstract approach, in which case you're wasting your time. Abstract essentially means 'different from normal', and if I wanted that, I'd just visit any old "hI im anewbie" thread.
The one thing you do have going is that you're good with details.

And if you're looking for respect, you already have it and you'd be blind not to notice it. If you're looking for more respect than you already got, then you're a fool.

Also, if you're complaining about things being too dramatic, then it means you don't know how life works.

Also Also, if you want your art to be appreciated, then you need to put a considerable amount of effort into your art. Don't expect natural talent to make a 15-minute picture look like a 15-hour picture.

_Kilburn

-All the work you can do is going to get either flamed, filled with attempts to improve it, and, on the worst cases, people love it and demand requests everywhere. If you don't do those, they'll end up ignoring you, and sometimes, even if you do.

-Everything people attempt is Worms. Not bad for stuff, but most of the people drawing worms are bound to be bad at people. I personally tryed once, just because I thought I could start from something easy without legs or arms. Where are Alien Breed Pics, for example? or Stunt GP, OR ANYTHING.

-Like everything in the internet, there are morons in here. And it's not a particular person. Everyone has their own pick, but they always get tyring. And sometimes you wonder "why am I trying to argue with this guy? He's never listening."

And you don't need to be a f*cking idol to realise this. Or draw good. Or anything.

How the consitency of style is relevant to failing or succeeding. What is there to succeed at?
Umm... making good non-abstract Worms FanArt. What else?

Does anyone get the feeling that slick KNOWS that that art isn't very good?

I do.
I... got the impression that he knew he could do better if he put more effort into it from his posts.

So making art that resembles to the original is succeeding and doing something different is failing?

I would have thought he would be happy if he was getting constructive criticism or just REAL comments.
Congratulations! YOU GOT IT! :D

Though the way he posted this thread kinda encouraged spam more than criticism.
Actually I just posted this thread to post an art style that I thought was unique, silly and cartoonie, and one I like.
I don't think this is it, it seems that he doesn't like constructive criticism anyway...
Fair enough, right? Because people saying "I don't like it " and the like is constructive criticism. If I would post "let me know what you think" or "constructive criticism wanted" - then ok. But I didn't because I don't really want it. I wanted this to be very cartoonish. I think it turned out acceptable to what I had in mind. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean anything. I'm just sharing with everyone. Your just being annoying overall. So go flog yourselves. :)

So, I could say since in my opinion your art sucks, but since you've been consistent at sucking, you succeed. Ok. That way of thinking is 'fail'. Also, it's freaking obvious I'm going for something different from what I have done. You think every newbie has a different and awesome style? No offense but I don't think so. In fact I would classify all those as the usual 'normal' fanart here. And thank you.

And if you're looking for respect, you already have it and you'd be blind not to notice it. If you're looking for more respect than you already got, then you're a fool.

I know that some members out there respect me. Yes. However everyone should respect everyone. Even if they are new, old... liked or disliked. Sorry for including myself in that. I forget that I am a lower human being than the next.
Also, if you're complaining about things being too dramatic, then it means you don't know how life works.
Fine if you think making a big deal out of THE STUPIDEST, LITTLE THINGS should be a normal thing. Have fun trying to live past 35 with all that stress.
Also Also, if you want your art to be appreciated, then you need to put a considerable amount of effort into your art. Don't expect natural talent to make a 15-minute picture look like a 15-hour picture.
Umm yeah that sounds great. So mind pointing out where I make a big deal of nobody liking my 15 minute art? I can show you were the art I've spent hours on gets treated like 15 minute art. :)
Actually, I think he made the exact opposite thing. He made a 15-hour picture look like a 15-minute picture.

Yet again you out do yourself in making hardly any sense at all.

Bottom line...You guys think you know what your talking about. You are all making this into something bigger than it's not. Not me. Get over yourselves.

No, no...Look my first post
I liked this style and as I said, I like your art
I was just commenting about the point of Gnomeman's that was about too many forum members kissing your ass, then I explained that even that I don't know you or doesn't like you I can still think your art is good
Even if you were my enemie and I wanted to kill your entire family with a spoon, if you make some good art I would say "I hate you and want to kill your entire family with a spoon...but your art is great!"

Now, what I think is:
This is style is funny and I love to see new styles because worms can get boring very fast, innovate is always good. Still, I miss a shading and I don't like at all of that grey eyes of them...

There. A "real" coment, not just "LOL Slick! your drawning ***S evrthing dudah!"

About the drama and the "Slick is too much arrogant" subject. I don't even opined on that and don't pretend...
I'm here too see art and I don't care about anyone's attitudes around here...
This is not a "Share your feelings" group
So I will look at your art and say if I liked or not and that's all :)

...still don't know what you're getting at. As far as I can tell, most people do respect everyone here. Hence why Shadowmoon hasn't been driven out of town 17 times over.

I didn't say that. I just said it was one of the ways of failing.

Well, let's just say that isn't going to go very far in a forum where you're previous works have essentially defined the right way to draw worms...

Bottom line...You guys think you know what your talking about. You are all making this into something bigger than it's not. Not me. Get over yourselves.
Replying with big posts like this only encourages us more. :D

I am respected by some people, btw.

So quit talking about me. The threads name, go to hell, will make us think this thread has great art in it won't it?

it gives me the message: not very good art is here.

Oh, and I said that I hated Slick for pure stupidness
Actually I was a big fan of his arts, I checked the Zeor adventures all the time and one of his arts was the first that I favorited on DA :p

So I'm just saying this before someone take seriosly and want to cut my b*lls off...
(Like Slapp, that would yell "Do you hate my loved Slick?" And then would try to kill me)

It takes quite a bit of time to earn my respect on the forum as of lately considering the newbies popping up. I respect just about everyone here though.

holy ****ing ****

everyone shut the hell up

jesus ****ing christ

could you guys possibly think of anything more ****ing useless to argue about

get off your computers you are wasting precious cycles that could be used to fold proteins

slick is one of the most creative people on this forum, he used to contribute a lot of stuff really different from everyone else and it was actually interesting until everyone copied everything he did and/or tried to play along with it in their own unfunny and/or unoriginal manners

i've seen good art everywhere, to the point of good art, short of being something truly astounding, is becoming commonplace and unimpressive. i am much more fascinated by art that is drawn intriguingly, even if it is drawn "poorly", because it's often much more creative and thought-provoking. or it doesn't even need to be thought-provoking, that lends certain works too much intellectual merit, but amusing. slick was really excellent at combining excellent art with his weird brand of humor, as was splapp, huntakilla, zero, monkeyforahead, and countless others i'm not remembering here, and they were driven out by **** like THIS VERY THREAD, you people arguing and missing the point entirely, debating over god knows what, i didn't read the whole thread and forgot what people were arguing about already.

if he comes back to try to do something interesting then thank him for doing something interesting don't come in and scream at him that he's just back because he wants people to kiss his ass you are stifling creativity, if a new person came in and acted like slick i wouldn't yell at him i'd be there applauding someone coming in and doing something funny and interesting and different. it's not that you get magical credit points for being regulars so you get to do whatever you want all the time it's that the people that stick around stuck around because they are genuinely funny and interesting and contributed to the forum and got a lot out of it, but now they are all leaving so there's no point for any of them to try when they're going to get something like this in return.

there, i said it, i broke the golden ager's cardinal rule in mentioning that it is in fact NOT seniority but actual talent and merit that gains respect here, it's just that all the new people aren't showing much talent or merit, the hope is that eventually, though, they will with practice gain some and become wonderful members of the community :)

so in short pleaseplease focus on making something you can look at, be genuinely proud of and be like "this is something that not only i will enjoy, but other people will enjoy it". don't worry about receiving accolades because if you make something good here people probably won't pay attention to it except for the ironic fart joke you threw into it

i know everything in this post has probably already been said 420,000 times but i figure some people in this thread may need to hear it 420,001 times before it sticks. and i know the way i began this post and how i went on to argue it was about as hypocritical as things can get but oh well i think my post was well thought out and makes valid points so i am okay with it

also: how the hell can you HATE slick, or anyone on this forum, it's genuinely appalling to me, if you truly hate anyone here you really need to get off the computer and go relax, do something, anything else

Don't be stupid, it's obvious that I don't hate him. I'm just being an asshole like I usely do when I'm bored.
Slick was the very first art I've seen in this forum and the first person to give me a compliment on my art
The thin is, looks like I am the one who takes this serious by actually "hating" people from a forum. But you're the ones who take those things serious, since some of you actually thought that I hated him...

And as I said. I don't care about attitudes, if someone here is arrogant or whatever the sh*t... I care about the art and I think Slick is a great artist, that's all!
Stop taking the sh*t I say in a serious way because I'm a f*cking stupid clown and I'm never say something serious ;)

As the rest of your post, I just agree with it

As the rest of your post, I just agree with itI think your post was rather obviously sarcastic but there were other posts here that seemed to think you were serious and went about either agreeing with your post or making comments to sound as if they were of very similar opinion as you.

as for the rest of you. read pikkul's post. read it until it sinks in. then continue reading it until it sinks in again. then do it once more just for good measure. seriously. you people think entirely too much about a lot of things and I realize I may not be the best person to point this out, but quite a few of you really need to just chill and stop talking for a bit so that you can listen to what others are saying.

so just everyone chill. no one say anything for at least the first time you read this thread. revisit it the day after reading this post and THEN think about posting again. chill out and consider what you want to say and if it's actually relevant at all given the reason that slick posted this thread.
