I used to play this game religiously about years ago and loved every second of it. I used to play online (ropers cases ladder) and there was such a great community I have really missed it over the years. Then, yesterday, I downloaded the trial version of the game from yahoo and was surprised to see people still playing it online - almost a decade later!

I'm so gonna be getting back into this!!!

DON'T buy it from Yahoo, get a CD version from https://secure.team17.com . Get the version that has WA in as well, because that game is actually still being updated, believe it or not, and so naturally has an even bigger community! WA is like W2 with less customisibility but more features in general.

Glad to hear it SilverSurf! What was your player name back then?
The community has shrunk somewhat, but the heart of it is still there :)

I share the same sentiments as SilverSurfer.
I used to play Worms2 till the wee hours of the morning 10 years ago.

Used to carry the name "smüg" way back then.
I used to play just for the fun of it but I got to top 10 at some point cos I accidentally beat Akuma in a rope game.

Need some help playing online though.
Way back then, I used to dial up to play. Now that I'm using a DSL connection, I can't seem to connect to a network game anymore.

Assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Do you have any firewalls without the ports opened, or a router?

I have actually read through the tips & guide in Spadge's Nest http://www.spadger.uk.ro/. However, I connect to the internet using DHCP through a router that I have NO control over... I've requested (via email) the router's administrator to open the ports listed, but it's been close to a week since and I don't think he's done anything about it. (Maybe he doesn't know how to either -doh!)

So I don't know what else to do now.

Subquestion: Isn't there a way to connect using WiFi?

Many thanks again!

Spadge's Nest http://www.spadger.uk.ro/.
Don't call Spadger as Spadge. They're two very different people.

Well, this game was released before 2000 (can't remember exactly when), when normal people didn't even have broadband, not to mention wifi!

Heh, think I still got Akuma on msn somewhere.

Usually just enabling DMZ on the router fixes most problems, so i'd recommend trying that. Also check your firewall, as it sounds like you can't join either. Then again, depends who you're trying to join.

Woah whats all this? WA is still being updated??!!

What about Worms 2? A few years ago it was a ***** to get running in winxp and the online community is dead. I have legitimate copies of both W2 and WA and I'd be willing to re-buy them if I have to to play online with working versions.

Is there a way to buy from the team17 shop if you're in the USA?

yes. https://secure.team17.com ships most places in the world. Just quite a bit more expensive.

You don't need to do that. You can buy triple (Worms2 + Worms Armageddon + Worms World Party) or double packs (Worms2 + Worms Armageddon) on eBay for as low as $10, and maximum $20-something.

EDIT: I re-read your post, and I see that you already have W2 and W:A. You don't need to re-buy W:A. You just need to download the latest Beta Update (ftp://ftp.team17.com/pub/t17/patches/pc/WA_update-3.6.28.0_Beta_Installer.exe). If you have a working internet connection don't already have W:A 3.0, the update will automatically download and install 3.0 before installing 3.6.28.0.

So....is there any way that this game can be played via WiFi?

Going back to reminiscing...I even remember playing a girl in a ladders game named "peach"
She seemed like a nice girl who needed to up her rank so i reported a loss to her even if she didn't beat me. That delighted her! hehe..

You need to forward some ports on your router, someone else will link you.

Plus you need a IP Switcher to change the IP the game thinks your using to connect to the internet.
