Say I go out today, go to a store, and buy a used/new copy of worms 4 mayhem ( which i am thinking about doing), will it work on my 360?

In America? Yes, it should. Same goes for Worms3D, if you're thinking about getting that too (which, naturally, isn't as good as Worms4)

I beleive you can update your 360 so it is compatible with Xbox games.

Not all games work smoothly though. AFAIK, Nintendo's the only one that can claim flawless pre-gen game performance on their next-gen console.

Its the only way though, i beleive.
