My dad loves his FPS. Loves'em. Probably because he's got nothing better to do. And when he has nothing better to do, he bugs me. :p So suggest more FPS for my dad to play before he runs out, quick!

They should be PC single-player FPS, nothing too complex or outside the genre. He's finished:
- Alien vs. Predator 2
- Bioshock
- Call of Duty
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 4
- Crysis
- Far Cry
- F.E.A.R.
- Ghost Recon
- Ghost Recon: Desert Siege
- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2
- Halo
- Halo 2
- Half-Life
- Half-Life 2
- Max Payne
- Max Payne 2
- Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
- Operation Flashpoint
- Return to Castle Wolfenstein
- Soldier of Fortune
- Soldier of Fortune 2
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
(list may not be complete)

Suggested:
- Alien vs. Predator 1.
- Deus Ex
- Doom 3 + Ressurection of Evil
- Duke Nukem 3D
- Gears of War
- Quake II + expansions
- Quake IV
- Prey
- Serious Sam
- Unreal 2

Serious Sam. The original one. If you've got an Xbox, the Xbox version is much better. It's my favouritest FPS, as in it's the only one I still play.

Doom 3, and the expansion (forgotten its name),
Quake IV,
Prey
Quake II
Gears of War

How old is he?
I remember my 50-odd year old man taking a look at me wall-walking in AVP2 and deciding the game wasn't worth touching with a 10 foot pole.

Doom 3 and RoE is a cheap temporary solution.
Quake IV may help.
My Dad is currently spending hours playing Quake II and it's expansions. Repeatedly.

Deus Ex? It's more RPG than FPS, but...

FEAR? That had its moments, although it got repetitive quite quick.

Return To Castle Wolfenstein. (yeah its old, but still great)

Thanks, updated the first post. Not so sure about Deus Ex and Quake II because they're a bit old and my dad likes games with clear goals, but I'll consider them.

System Shock 2 :cool:Never managed to get that working.

Well there are a load of other Medal of Honor games, even if they're all basically the same.

He seems to like the military-themed, though they are the most common. And he hated Halo, woo! :p

Deus Ex and System Shock 2 indeed!
(The latter with a 3rd party high-res polygon & texture mod to get better graphics these days. Some similar mods are made for Deus Ex too.)

Battlefield 2 (+ Special Forces + Euro Force + Armored Fury):
The Complete Collection (http://www.amazon.de/Battlefield-2-Complete-Collection-DVD-ROM/dp/B000MV8YUA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1202113404&sr=8-1) with all these expansions/booster packs is available for €50.-.
Great online team-based multiplayer game with online ranking and awards to get.

No One Lives Forever 1 & 2:
Stealth/spy games with funny gadgets and weapons and great single-player story.

Team Fortress 2

Aliens vs. Predator 1
The first one's more scary than the second.

Star Wars Jedi Academy
The best light-saber wielding, Force-abusing Jedi game for PC so far.

Portal. It's not that long, but you can allways download user made levels.

Whoops!
Well, assume away BF2 and TF2 from my suggestion list then!
The rest are great single-player FPS games.

yeah, and thanks to the mod community there's some great hi-res textures and models available for download that really enhance the feel of the game

How about Max Payne and Max Payne 2? It's a 3rd person shooter but they are really enjoyable and you can barely tell the difference. Plus cool Matrix effects. :p

Hm, since Angelus is suggesting Max Payne, I'd say your dad should play some of the newer GTA series games.
Vice City and San Andreas are great.

I wouldn't.

GTA is pushing it a little bit. It's mainly driving. Do you want to make Daniel even angrier than he already is?

SupSuper

Bonz loves angering me. :p

Vice City and San Andreas are great. If there was a line for pushing it, GTA would be it.

I'd rather rely on more tried-and-true formulas, I figured the list of played games would help, military-themed games are usually a plus. He doesn't like his shooters with no apparent goal but he doesn't like them too complex/fiddly or keyboard-heavy either. He loved S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but didn't care much for Bioshock. He also doesn't like stealth/spy games, he likes shooting things plain and simple. First impression is (mostly) everything, as such he didn't even :p hype also helps since he'll obviously wanna try out whatever his mates are talking about.

I also wouldn't put Portal in because while it is incredibly entertaining, his english is sub-par and thus a lot would be lost (keep in mind we're not native english so he won't really be in it for the giggles) and Steam games are a pain to set up on different computers.

The new Turok game will be released on March 18th.

How about Unreal 2?
Also, Unreal Tournament 3 has some kind of single-player part.

SupSuper
7 Feb 2008, 15:30
Unreal 2's not a bad idea, though everytime I played it I always got lost somewhere, hope he doesn't.

And Unreal Tournament 3's single-player is just the same old game modes tied up with some sort of story. :p

Anyways I think that's enough suggestions for now. Don't make me get thomasp on an OD thread.

that puts marathon (a ridiculously reading-heavy game) out of the question then too

what about duke 3d?

Yeah, there are 3rd party tools that allow you to play the original *.wad files with better polygon graphics.
