Yup, so to not hijack other threads with my questions aimed to other Mac users on this forum, I decided to make a thread out of it.

One of the things I'm wondering is whether it's worth upgrading from Tiger to Leopard... although I'm gonna check and see if I can get it trough either of my siblings who both study at the best local uni which usually offers free software to students. :p But in case that fails, is it worth upgrading?

You've just bought this iMac, yes? If it's brand new, it should either have Leopard already installed on it (OSX 10.5), or come with Tiger (10.4) and a "Drop in upgrade" disk in the box that allows you to put Leopard on.

When my dad got his new iMac recently, it was on top of the box (well, the bit with the cables and CDs in) - could hardly miss it :D

When I opened the box I wasn't aware of which MacOS version this came with, I was expecting the most recent out of the box. So I didn't put much attention into the cd, just thought it was a recovery cd or something. It's a relief tho. :p

Hey are .mac accounts worth their value?

Also, does this really not come with any imaging software at all(like paint or something :p)?

Did you buy it direct from Apple? If so, I'm surprised they're still shipping them with Tiger...

The recovery CDs are they grey ones

Not really. Although I've never used one.

Also, does this really not come with any imaging software at all(like paint or something :p)?

Nope. Go to http://www.pure-mac.com - plenty there!

Indirect retailer actually, that sells only Apple stuff. But considering they took a week to deliver it I assume they ordered it directly from Apple. Unless they keep them stored in a warehouse in another city, but even then it wouldn't have taken as long...

Thanks for the help!

So I load up GarageBand, and decide to play around with the included loops, but they are all greyed out, when I click on one it tells me I have to download them first. Ok, it tell it to download them, which then opens Software Update which tells me there are no updates... -_-

Find one of the grey installer disks (not sure which one) and stick it in. One of the installers on one of those disks will have an option to install the GarageBand loops, possibly inside another installer.

Oi, thanks! It's on Disk 2. There's an option in Garageband to install them from the DVD.

Damn glad I didn't download it tho, over 1GB of information. :p

I think that's the reason why it's not available for legal download.

So. I have noticed the mouse has this tendency to automatically lower the tracking speed when not moving it too fast. Which is possibly done to add more control when requiring minimal movement or whatever, but it is increasingly annoying and I can't find a way to disable it. :(

Also, the speakers seem to be horribly loud when using XP. If I use the audio configurations to lower it down, it looses quality in an odd way... Kindof as if the speakers themselves had the volume on max all the time, so turning the system volume down makes it really noisy and stuff... this doesn't happen when using MacOS X tho...
