To this day I have fond memories of Alien Breed (top down, of course!)

The atmosphere, subtextual storytelling and action are still largely unparalleled.

While the Alien Swarm mod for UT is very similar it doesn't quite fill the empty gap in my heart.

A while ago there was a feature on an updated Alien Breed game, which seems to have vanished. Is there any news?

Can you imagine Tower Assault in HD on PSN or XBLA with online co-op?

It would be fantastic!

C'mon Team17 - you resurrected Lemmings (which wasn't even your own IP), how about showing Alien Breed some retro remake love?

That would truly be fantastic. And a version for Nintendo DS would also be great.
Alien Breed Tower Assault for CD32 and Amiga is absolutely one of the best games ever.

I thought Alien Breed 2 got it better. Tighter generally. Tower assault is fantastic, but the open world thing didn't really catch my fancy as much as the more classic level progression of the second game. And I found it a lot easier, which is not really a good thing..

But yeah, Team 17 really should hire someone who'll be able to sell the idea to THQ.

*SPLUNGK!*

Flying from Los Angeles to Heathrow yesterday, and I regretted not having any of the Alien Breed games on my laptop's Amiga Forever install. I'll be sure to load 'em up before I fly back to LA. Marvellous games.

Anyway, yes - the original Amiga versions are available to download from Dream17 if anyone wants 'em. They're free - all you need is an Amiga emulator (which, due to licensing surrounding the Kickstart ROMs, is not free, so I'd advise picking yourself up a copy of Amiga Forever).

I bet if they made a new one would if would probably be awfull, all graphics and no gameplay just like most games these days, also it would probably be too easy, 100's of health packs etc, unlike the old days of alien breed where it was tough really tough, i remember it taking months to complete tower assault and alien breed 3d, even doom was a walk in the park compared to ab3d, even with dooms 30 odd levels but ab3d's only 16 took ages to complete, no fancy console cheats like most games today to get past hard bits or medkits everywhere, i think its a game that should be left alone because, it don't need to be made better cuz the originals where perfect as they where. I mean look at stardust on the ps3, its a crime against such a fantastic game, when i played the new version i was very dissapointed.

You're making assumptions based on the current state of the games industry, not on Team 17's ability to make a good game. Alien Breed 2004 was shaping up to be a really good game but there were no publishers who'd touch it and consequently the game was shelved. Damned stupidity if you ask me.

Is it still possible to make a modern update of a classic game. Super Stardust HD, which wasn't developed by Team 17, isn't as bad as you say it is - it's a ruddy great game, identical to the original in all but appearance. The same can be said of the recent update of Speedball II, and of last year's The Settlers II - 10th Anniversary. Sensible World of Soccer on Xbox Live Arcade is remarkably similar to the Amiga version albeit with higher-resolution graphics. A part of me really hopes that Cannon Fodder gets the same treatment.

Well, there were Cannon Fodder games being made for the PS2 and PSP, and were later cancelled. But they weren't remakes of the origional, which is probably what you want, although they did have similar gameplay.
