Three years ago, I installed Worms 3d on my pc. It worked smoothly. However, when I try it now, it crashes after the SEGA logo. Provided that when I ran it the first time, it was on Windows XP Pro, while it's on Windows Vista now. I think the problem is with the Windows; since my VGA is not that powerful. Maybe it can't handle Worms + Vista at the same time!!

My question is, how can I disable the movies of the game? I tried the /nomovies thingy in the shortcut, but it didn't work.

My PC: 3.06 MHz Pentium 4, 768 MB RAM, Intel 845G (integrated) 64 MB

Looks like a sound initialisation faliure, as the site says the sound is initialised after the sega logo. Do you have the latest sound card drivers?

Now that you mentioned it. Windows Vista installed some sound driver for me in the first run, but I installed what I think is the latest one. I think it was for Windows XP. I don't think there is a Vista driver for my sound card, so I'll try to roll back to the Vista and see if I can run it.

I tried rolling back to the Vista driver, but the same thing happened.

I forgot to say this earlier. Sometimes, when I start the game, it doesn't crash directly after the SEGA logo. It crashes after the 1st loading screen (after the TEAM17 logo). I don't know if this is a different matter or not, and why would it crash on either one of these points.

if your aware of dxdiag (hit "run" on the startmenu -> type in "dxdiag" -> press enter) then try (on the audio tab) turning hardware acceleration down 1 notch.

I tried to decrease the sound acceleration from dxdiag, but there is no buttons to do this. I don't know how to decrease/disable it.

I tried to decreased the acceleration of the VGA card, but it didn't work.

BTW, it's weird that it crashes after I hear the background music while it's loading now.

My sound card is: SoundMAX integrated sound card.

I'll try installing Worms Forts: Under Siege to see if I can run it.

I tried running Worms Forts: Under Siege. It went fine until before the main menu where it says "Press any key to continue". When I press any button, the game crashes.

most likely your onboard sound doesnt meet the games requirements. try buying a dirt cheap 20$ or 50$ soundcard. (AUD$)

I'll try a new sound card. I just don't get it. Why it worked before but not now? I don't wanna question your opinion, but are you sure it the sound card?

Vista has DirectX 10 which has completely dropped direct hardware acceleration support for DirectSound. There are no configurable settings any more.

This can cause problems for games that use this technology and don't offer any configuration options within the game to change to software-based 3d sound.

I believe Creative have some kind of emulation software with their sound cards, but like you I am kinda stuck with an integrated SoundMax

Well glory be! It works!

On a whim I tried running Worms 3d in Windows 98/ME compatibility mode and it got past the Sega screen. It didn't crash out until I got as far as the end of the 'Loading Worms' bit, where you get the bongo drums (or whatever they are).

I then decided to upgrade my ATI video drivers from the HP site (HP notebook) . I'd already upgraded the Sondmax drivers.

I'm using the /NOMOVIES switch in the Launcher Advanced section.

After that it just works!
