i've gone and made a thread in online orgy for the mornington girder tourney:
http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?p=624289

in this thread we post replays and laugh at them behind their backs as they try to grasp the idea of a bull**** scheme with no coherent gameplay whatsoever

the "scheme" involves absolutely nothing but placing girders, with each girder earning 'points' depending on how it's placed (according to a vaguely believable yet wildly fabricated scoring system)

it's essentially the worms version of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mornington_Crescent_(game)

This perpetuates the main joke behind Mornington Crescent: that there are actually no rules nor 'game' at all — the game as such is played purely for entertainment value gained by watching others' reactions. The covert objective is to give the appearance of a game of great skill and strategy, with detailed and almost absurdly complex and long-winded rules and strategies, in parody of games and sports in which similarly circuitous systems have evolved. This is an open secret, and few if any of the audience are under any illusion otherwise, but it is possible for people to become involved in the game without realising this, and thus to attempt to play the game seriously.

I'll try and whip up an example replay of this tonight if i can, to give everyone a better idea

but first, do feel free to sign up and make very vague insinuations that you

are genuinely interested in finding out what it is
have seen replays and thought it looked fun
vaguely familiar with the scheme
remember an old tourney on some other forum
are a pro at the scheme and can't wait to get involved

pick one of these fictions, make a post like you normally would, but don't over-do it

and don't get involved all at once, maybe let it go to the next page before signing up or something

oh yeah, mods feel free to delete any posts that might reveal the true nature of the game, just label it spam or something, i'm sure the t17 staff won't mind :)

Is it ok if I also pretend I have no idea what's going on so it's not just like yauhui, might give more of an air of legitimacy to the whole thing

Good thinking.
Some more seniors should do that. Maybe even a user mod, so noone will immediately suspect the usual OD crew.

I intend to play it as someone who has read a bit about the theory, but doesn't know how it works in practice and so will keep asking questions as to whether I'm doing it right. Feel free to randomly answer "yes, that would be a decent move" or "no, a better move would have been to...".

I intend to play it out as a seasoned pro who's very enthusiastic about it. In fact Ru, if you're looking for someone to make a spoof replay with, I'll be more than happy to help. If we do that though, we'll need to be careful about what we say in the in-game chat, as we could very easily give the game away. We'd have to be convincing.

i'm a bit cynical toward mornington, as i am toward wxw and other non-standard worms schemes, but i still play it begrudgingly

also, being a damn yankee, i prefer the new york variant

I'll play as an on-and-off player who isn't too happy about some rules and think some changes would much favor the scheme. (and my methods)

I'll be an old player of an obscure scheme that can't play the normal without arbitary rule changes.

Also, I'm trying to mix in some worms terminoligy and fake usernames to add a little bit of belivability.

Would menioning a morninton girder scheme for worms blast (a game without girders) be a stretch too far?

nah they're too stupid to notice

anyway we haven't caught many newbs yet so let's give it some more time before starting any games

also i'm only posting example replays in this thread - we can't allow the newbs to see it otherwise they'll pull out of the tourney and we can't have that

Hook, line and sinker.

Maybe 3 tourneys could be started then;
MORNINGTON GIRDER TOURNEYS
Classic
FairFax
Balham Girder!

Yeah, I'll join up, and if there WERE 3 tourneys, I'd go for classic.

since you guys are mostly going with old players or occassional players I'll play my role as I normally would: completely oblivious to everything, but interested to figure things out.

this could be fun....
