View Full Version : Do any ODers still play worms?

Melon

I was just thinking that I imagine a lot of people here in OD actually no longer play worms.

I also thought it might be a nice idea to have some sort of OD worms competition, but of course if nobody still plays it then there's not much point.

So do you?

I'm talking about WA by the way, I imagine that all PC worms players on this forum would play WA.

I was playing it a lot up until recently. Then dissertation crunch time, a week's holiday in Scotland and Team Fortress 2 all got in the way.

I haven't played it for a good few years now. Hell, I hadn't played games online for about a year and a half, until the mighty Team Fortress 2 came along.

I play it all the time. The problem is finding others to play it. That's why I reside in #worms on GameSurge IRC. I rock.

i don't think i've really been competitive at worms for at least 3 years now

last time i tried to play online (a couple months ago) i accidentally entered a wxw and had no idea what the **** was going on

I've never been much of a worms player. I've only played online 3 or 4 times.

I should dig out my WA disc.

I played Worms Open Warfare 2 several hours a day for the first week of it's release, because it is such a great game. That's died down now though to not playing at all. Before WOW:2, I guess it'd been about a year and a half since I played Worms 4.

Harldy ever now. Once you get bored of Shoppers it's a bit difficult to find a good game.

I haven't played W3D or WFUS on my xbox for ages, and I don't have an XP installer disk to get XP running via Virtual PC on my PowerBook, so that's WA out of the question :(

I really should get back into worms.

Well if anyone's interested in a game, please pull your fingers out and contact me. Or idle in #worms and you will be poked and beeped in to submission.

Melon

I thought this would be the sort of response I'd get.

Of course, I wasn't expecting everybody to still be an avid worms player, I mean, some of you have been here ages, I'm sure you'd probably lose a bit of interest.

It still seems slightly odd though. I assume everybody first came here because of Worms, but despite not playing it you all come to visit most days.

Would anybody be interested in an OD competition on Worms Armageddon? Just for fun, nothing serious.

It's not so much we lost interest, Worms is still as fun to play as ever. But we're not fanboys, we moved on to other games, and maybe even lives.

I'm up for a game anytime, as long as I'm on. Usually on weekends.

when the wii worms come out I'll play, but the 3D ones suck pretty bad, and I've got vista.

I stopped playing W:A when I got odd looks for asking for a normal game. I believe being asked what a normal was finally got me to quit :p

Come to #worms, we have mildly sensible people.

We also have people who play Hysteria, but there are worse crimes.

And Bow and Arrow is great fun.

I have been really busy at work recently, so my gaming time has gone into more self-indulgent pursuits such as Lego Star Wars II and the Guitar Hero games.

We've also had our flat damp-proofed over the last few weeks, so my PC has been pretty much out of action.

I love playing Worms, though, and for the last few years have enjoyed a consistent amount of about 1 game per week, median, probably, I guess.

I furiously played open warfare 2 after I got it for about a two weeks but now other games have got my attention. Before that I don't think I seriously played worms since about two years. My gaming time is going to be limited lately with the end of the term coming up in university and after that I have the orange box and call of duty 4 to worry about.

I've not played worms for at least a year, or two. Asides from being a DM (Dungeon Master) for a NeverWinter Nights world, my entire gaming enthusiasm hit the floor and hasn't come back since. Come to think of it, I've not posted here for nearly 3 years. How time flies. :)

Maybe, it possibly used to be Azel (character from Panzer Dragoon which I was/still am mad for). I can barely remember last week though - remembering my avatar changes over a period of nearly six years is neigh impossible for me

Me too, come to think of it. It could be a lot of fun to get back to some good ol' gaming. I think my WA cd is somewhat the worse for wear, unfortunately, but hopefully not so bad I can't get things running again.

Maybe we could ask some Teamster or S2K for some merchandise for the winner of the tournament.
That way we could recreate the spirit of all the T17 competitions from back in the day.

If you'd like to join in, just post here and say so. I'm thinking maybe a knockout competition using the standard Intermediate scheme, that way, if someone has hosting troubles, it's quick to set up using Hosting Buddy. The great thing about doing this here in OD is that it doesn't really matter how long it takes. No-one's in any sort of rush, there's no time-limit to play your match in.

Any ideas? Maybe a scheme with less ropes? Group stages first? Suggestions welcome.

HostingBuddy can host many more schemes than just the regular ones.
I'd suggest "Hysteria", which seems to be the latest craze.

I know HostingBuddy can do more, but I meant that it's easier to set up a standard scheme using it than a custom one.

Personally, I think Intermediate would be best because it's the most played scheme that uses standard worms gameplay, as it's played on all offline deathmatches. Hysteria is good fun, but I'm not sure if it'd suit everybody here.

The League PRO Scheme is certainly one I've considered and I do enjoy it. Unlike many other worms competitions, a lot of players in this one haven't played in a while, so it might be better to start off with an easier and more forgiving scheme first. We could easily host another OD compo some other time and use that scheme.

I'll start this in a few days, so feel free to continue with suggestions. If anybody here would rather play on a more tactical scheme than Intermediate, then let me know, and I'll go with the majority. At the moment I'm thinking about a knockout compo, with "first to win 2" rounds until we get down to 3 people, whereby we could have a 1 vs 1 vs 1 final. Or even have the starter rounds as 1 vs 1 vs 1, and then do 1 vs 1 until the end.

MrBunsy
12 Nov 2007, 17:40
I'd personally prefer to stick with intermediate. It's been too long since I've had a proper game for me to be much good at anything else, I suspect.

Paul.Power
