I've been able to do a couple of mic comparisons. I own a Shure SM58 and a Maplin mic preamp (QS41. I know it's not a good choice of preamp for such a good mic but I'm on a budget and I'm not a professional), and was able to borrow a Maplin CJ15. I recorded two samples of my sexy voice reading out the catalogue descriptions.

What do you think?

I think the Shure sounds better, the Maplin makes your voice sound a bit hollow or that you're in a large hall.
