Hi guys. Here, have a secret forum.

Some heritage from a previous welcome (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=23733)

Welcome, initiates.

Get yourselves settled in, first, and if you have any questions please, put them forward.

You should be aware that in OD you must not use the letter "E" outside this thread.

thomasp
19 Sep 2007, 19:00
And, as I mentioned in the welcome PM, it is compulsory to read the ENTIRE 100% off topic thread (name varies regularly due to security reasons) before you do anything else. Find it here: http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8037

And yes, said thread does have more posts in it than most of the other subforums here :p

They all received a PM from me saying that they'd been let in... and as I haven't had any PM's back moaning that they can't get in, I assume that they do have access, but choose not to visit :(

Cyclaws is even online now.

Howdy!

I guess now that you're all "in" you can know some things. One of which is the origin of the "Kommunisticheckaya tuna vlyublyennosti kotov!" text a lot of us had, but few of us still have, in our signatures. It's Russian for "Communist tuna of the love of cats" properly written [Коммунистическая туна влюбленности котов] in Cyrillic, and is what you get if you try to translate "Communist cats love tuna" into Russian through Babelfish. We romanized the alphabet to hide the obvious Russian-ness of it.

It's also worth noting that туна is NOT the Russian word for tuna, and is just a phonetic equivalent...

Welcome to that oh-so-mythical place that doesn't suck.

I heartily reccomend that you check out Worm Mad's sitcom script thingies that Paul linked to in the initial post. They're Worm Mad's best stuff, IMO.

Edit: And because I know one of you is going to try to say it, no, I'm not saying that because I'm the central character of an entire series.

The important thing is there are still people worth inviting in to OD these days. I'm glad to have some great new guys in.

Bear in mind, though, that OD is also dangerous. We have to make sure we still keep an eye on what's going on outside. And the rules still apply in here, too.

I've not been in the outside world regularly for a long time, now, and this is why you'll see much more of me in here than out there. As a result, I don't know most of you newbies very well, but I take it for granted that you're decent folk by the fact your names were put forward by my mates.

In other words - if any leaks are detected outside the forum, please DO NOT post in the thread - just report it

And the rules still apply in here, too.

No where near as much as the outside though. I've only ever given one person infraction points in OD, and that was because I didn't realise the thread they resurrected was from OD :p (sorry Futureworm!)

I think I must be the only person invited to OD that honestly has never heard of it before or even suspected that it existed.

Hiya, newbies! Especially those of you who've been around here longer than me. :o

I honestly didn't think something like this could be hidden so well...

Best compliment a secret society can wish for. I think it's great you get "rewarded" for sticking around a community, though. With the right ratio between prestige and encouraging the outside world to strive for the ideals that got you in here yourself, places like this really can make an entire community survive longer and basically be nicer for everyone.

So yeah, back to scheming about how to make the rest of the forum as pleasant as it once was.

Well, a lot of the time someone will deliberately make a duplicate/substitute thread outside of OD if it's something funny or he wants to mess with non-ODers.
Or have the mods move a thread outside.

Also, you'll probably have much more outside stuff to add to your Forum News, as everyone in here is an eagle-eyed watchdog with a stupidity sensor and a spam-detector.
Especially if the stupidity comes from notorious guys like franpa or Plasma.

As part of your initiation, you have to memorise the Totally Off Topic Thread (or whatever it is called now, I'm even starting to forget what the original title was!). You will have to answer 10 questions about things that have been discussed since its beginning.
