Melon

Normally you just click on it.

I've moved all of them to my DA account now, and changed all of the links, so you can now see a sexy gallery containing them all here (http://h2o-melon.deviantart.com/gallery/#Forum-News), if you can't be bothered to look through the thread for all of them.

And yes, you zoom in on the DA version by clicking on it.

no, I don't want you to send me your ideas
I promise you, however, that they are still going to.

However, I could try to make a comic. If I had instructions.

Instructions on learning how to draw comics:

Buy all Futurama comic books twice (currently 30 issues plus the 2 Simpsons crossover issues)
Read through all of them
Take a good look on how the artists did draw them
Send all the duplicate comic books to me

Shadowmoon

I create comics nearly every day and boy is it fun. Before creating a comic, think about the story. what will it be about? and think of the characters you will use. Plan it out on a piece of paper and Draw the characters you will use, if you can be bothered. Then set out the comic, and then start drawing it. After scan your comic with a scanner, colour it in with whatever paint progam you have, and pop it on here! Colours are nice to add, but most people on here don't use them i've seen. A comic is simple to make. After creating your comic, think about what you can do to improve the next one.

Kelster23
29 Nov 2007, 22:35
Or you can start from the right or left side of your page, depending on wether you want to do Japanese or English style.
Draw a square.
Put a character in it.
You know how to make panels.
Change the panel by changing the size, adding or removing speech bubbles, changing expression, characters, poses.
Make them make a story.
You have just graduated from Kelster's probablynotthewaytodoit comic making course.

Way ahead of you.

and by the way, there were two crossovers, 1 of them was split over two issues, in futurama comics. the other was split into the first bit on simpsons comics #103, and the second bit on futurama comics #17.

It's not particauly drawing comics thats the problem, it's sending them onto the internet on this forum.

It would seem you have many opinions but have run out of options.

Anyway, I'd work on 6 if I was you rather than do that. If you're going to spew stuff out of boredom it might as well be creating something rather than just pestering people with ideas.

I wrote this one all the way back in November and never finished it, but found it again recently and decided to finish it off. As a result, some of you may have forgotten the references.

Oh, and I'm aware that the way Melon's holding the pad and pencil is totally wrong, but I only noticed after I'd inked it the first time and so decided to keep it that way for continuity's sake. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

OK, OK, OK, seeing as Andrew asked so nicely, here's the deal:

Months and months and months and months ago, I wrote a script for the next edition of Forum News. I started to draw it and then I upgraded my computer. My scanner no longer works as a result. So, I started to draw it using my funky new graphics tablet. Then I got a summer job and pretty much had no free time.

Anyway, since then, and before you bumped this thread, I've actually continued to draw it, but it's slow going. It's mostly done, but of course now I realise that I can use the Uni scanners for free, but I might as well finish drawing it up on the tablet because I changed one or two bits to make it MORE AWESOME.

Are the jokes now woefully out of date? Probably. But I still think it's gut-bustingly hilarious*, so it shouldn't matter.

Just to prove to you that I'm not lying, here's a sneak preview of a non-spoilery and unfinished panel :

What this means is that nobody may get the jokes anymore. I don't care, I think this is hilarious. Also, even if this was on time, I'm not sure how many people would get some of the jokes anyway. Again, I don't care.

Seeing how long it took and how these comics normally look like ass anyway, I decided to try out some new things, including doing the entire thing on computer. I'm sorry the style in each panel keeps changing, that's mainly a result of how many times I only drew a small part and then left it for months.

So... uh.... yeah. Surprised?

My worm thingy is in a comic i had no idea about... and he grew a mustache... and some weird spots on his bandana!... nice!

Funny stuff, i must say. The old ones were funnier but that's probably cause the forum was alive. There isn't much to moc... talk about lately for what i can tell.

It's a shame i've missed this on my past annual visits. Good work.

I love the satellite gag. nicely done :D

I'm with error, not quite as funny but only because you didn't have anyone to mock.

as for the art? looks fine enough to me. sure, discrepancies are there, but who really cares to nit pick this sort of thing?

I agree, not quite as funny, but definitely still good stuff (Though I have to admit the speech bubbles/text kind of irk me).

*Bambi eyes* More?

You were originally included as the cameraman because you'd just left, and I wanted someone with a recognisable sigworm who wasn't going to become a subject of mockery himself, so you seemed perfect for the job. Never actually did bother to look up what your sigworm looked like though, so sorry I've been drawing you wrong all this time.

Yeah, they irk me a bit too. This was the first time I've ever tried to do speech bubbles in GIMP and afterwards I was thinking that maybe I made it too big. I'll definitely shrink it down in size the next time.

I'm wondering if people are even getting what I'm mocking here. The events that happened around the time I started making his script were:

Team17 announcing they're doing a Leisure Suit Larry game (hence them being replaced for a show about boobs).
Yuahui setting up the "Unofficial Team17 Forum", although half of those jokes will go way over your head if you never read that forum.
A Space Odyssey having it's on-line mode dropped.

I'm not going to rule out making any more of these, but I'll only do it if there's something I can do that's funny, which there hasn't really been lately :(

I got the last two. The first one completely evaded me, I forget about the LSL thing.

Yeah, this place is dull.

Melon, I don't know how you managed it, but you have successfully become even suckier at drawing Lemmings than before.
I seriously can't understand what made you think giving a lemming a round human face was a good idea. With eyebrows, no less!

Most of those jokes did go over my head, it has to be said. But upon my realisation of what you were actually mocking, I realised that is was actually very funny! Good job.
I wish my macbook would stop telling me to spell realised/realisation with a 'Z' D:<

It is supposed to be a 'z' as far as I know. The suffix is correctly spelt -'ize'.
For strange reasons though, Commenwealth countries use an 's' instead.

I think either is generally excepted worldwide, so long as you are consistent with either variation. The English rule has always traditionally used "ise" and I think that is still largely used throughout, especially in the Oxford English Dictionary. Hence my annoyance at being told I am spelling it wrong. American usage - was that words derived from classical Greek with the letter zeta in their suffix were rendered ‘ize' in English.

The OED used to only contain the ize variant. The variant with an s has only recently been included as an accepted variant.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/-ise#-ise.2C_-ize - that entire article can be interesting to read though.

I still use it with an 's' though. :D

That's very interesting actually. I had always regarded "ize" as an Americanism.

You don't think it's better to how I used to draw them (and my previous drawing of them was appalling)? I've tried a couple of times to draw them as they're "officially" drawn, but I can't seem to ever get it right. As it stands at the moment I'm much much happier making them look like munchkins or something similar, although that's probably because I find it easier to draw human faces.

They're likely going to stay as they are now, unless I have a brainwave on how to improve them. I actually don't enjoy drawing worms that much compared to more human figures as I seem to be missing something that always makes it look wrong (it might be the mouths actually, I only seem to be capable of drawing them in a specific way on a worm and I'm worried it'll turn into Ctrl-Alt-Del with they're single slack-jawed expressions) and I much prefer drawing the lemmings how I draw them, even if it's "wrong".

<imagine that this post has an exciting conclusion here>

It's not like i ever made a post myself on that sigworm thread, so i'm the one to blame. I don't mind, really. It is/was a fairly good comic and that's all that matters. ;)

I didn't analise the situation long enough but i might take the risk to state that this forum is no longer alive due to the inability of the whole t17 forum to attract new people.

The forums that use to hold the W:A leagues, for example, had way more people than this one back on the days i use to play it. So maybe it's not our (actually your - since i'm only back for a short period) fault afterall. If the things remain untouched, the cold death is the only future for the forum.

It's a shame it's going this way. It's been a great place for people to get to learn the first steps on digital art and such. It served me well for quite a while and i hate to admit it, but i would be happy to see it alive and kicking again. :(

You mean:

It is supposed to be a 'z' except in Commonwealth countries, where you should use an 's' instead.

The accepted spelling is the correct one regardless of etymology.

(Personally, since us Brits seem to have a fairly free choice, I use -ise because it's more common and fits better with the -isis ending of the noun form. Frankly it's massively unimportant.)

Anyway, Forum news is too dull. It should look like this: (If you've seen "The Professionals" You'll know what I mean:))

The lines have been drawn. THIS IS THE FUTURE:
