Inopportune timing perhaps with the whole OD leak mess, but I think it's about time Melon and wormthingy were let in, as they've been pretty good all-round forumers and just generally nice people. I know a few people have agreed with me, particularly about Melon, but there've been no official threads about it.

Does anyone else have any nominations while we're at it?

I definitely agree about Melon and I've had a few others in mind myself, but they mostly aren't people a lot of you here will know too well*. Maybe I'll come up with a speech in their favour later on, but right now I'm off to watch the final quarter of the Slovenia basketball match.

Oh and I don't know wormthingy too well, so I'll abstain.

* Plus there's the inconvenient truth about two of them being in the same clan as Lex, M3ntal and myself. :o

Edit: Thrashed Germany by 30 points. Eep.

I don't really remember either of them, and there are no members I see around worth nominating, so I'll abstain.

Aku.

...I think he's earned it. :p

wormthingy sounds familiar. Who was he again? *searches*

Sounds good to me.

I have no opinion on Melon or Aku.

I'm not sure if now is the best time to do this, but...

Melon, Yes.
Wormthingy & I have an awesome comment tower going on on one of my deviations, so also yes. :p (And I think he's good for other reasons... though he seems different than the other OD-ers).

Melon, sure.
Aku... Maybe.
Wormthingy... Iiiiiii don't know about that one, myself. But, I guess I don't know him that well...

I agree on wormthingy, I'm not sure about melon, but if Paul think he deserves it, then I have no objection.
Aku should definitely be let in.

Also, I think we should let Iguana in. Oh wait, he's banned now! Awwwww shame. :(

Is there any particular reason Cyclaws isn't in? I've wondered about this for a while. I don't recall ever having any problems with him, although most of our interaction has been outside the forum.

Zero72

It's worth noticing that he's contributed to OD leaks, though not quite so actively or maliciously. I think.

AndrewTaylor
11 Sep 2007, 10:42
Well it's pretty hard to actively contribute from outside.

Is there any particular reason Cyclaws isn't in? I've wondered about this for a while. I don't recall ever having any problems with him, although most of our interaction has been outside the forum.Well, he was a member of Team Marshmallow, and he did gloat a bit after the latest round OD leaks (i.e. "I knew it!" and stuff). That might make him a potential leak if we do let him in. However, I've just checked down the list of search results, and I'll admit he's not a bad poster.

Wormthingy I support mostly because of the help he's given me over IM and on deviantArt regarding my drawing. He's just shown himself to be a helpful, constructive guy in that context, and I think he coud be in OD as well.

Should I know what the hell "team marshmallow" is?

Should I know what the hell "team marshmallow" is?
Probably.

The group of people who made a bunch of avatars featuring differently-coloured anthropomorphic marshmallows, in response to the OD avatar fads.

Heck, some of them still use them (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=47338)

...Difficult to contribute to OD leaks?

Yes. People who "contribute to leaks" who are inside OD are the ones doing the leaking. The ones outside can't really do a lot to help.

Probably.

I remember their avatar fad thing, but I didn't realise that made them a "team" or anything I should know or care about.

I remember their avatar fad thing, but I didn't realise that made them a "team" or anything I should know or care about. It was an anti-elitism team, thus it was elitist. SERIOUS BUSINESS.

I've worked with Cyclaws on stuff like Dream17 so I don't have any problem with him, and it's not like he doesn't know about the place already. wormthingy doesn't care much about the forum anymore, though MEH would probably appreciate another Linuxer around, and I've got no beef with him either. Aku's also been trouble-free and only came back recently for the new Worms game, so I suppose it might be good timing before he wanders off again. Fyi I've talked to them all on MSN.

Fair enough then

So, so far our list is

Melon
wormthingy
Akuryou13
Cyclaws
More of KRD's friends (:p)

I think we should allow in at most two at a time. In other words, pick two now, then two again in a few months time.

Best thing to do is to have a poll once we've got a shortlist.

Also, what about Alien King? Haven't seen much bad coming from him lately?

Why? I don't see a problem with inviting all of them at the same time.

I was going to say that Alien King and Pilot seemed to have become quite decent. But then Pilot kinda snapped at us in one of the leak threads, so I'd be a bit weary of him. AK though still seems decent enough.

edit: I'm ok with all in Paul's list.

Heck, some of them still use them (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=47338)I actually found the marshmallow thing quite funny - good on them for doing an avatar fad of their own.

I don't mind Akuryou13 but he doesn't spend much time around here anymore so would he spend much time in OD?

Also, I think we'll have to tell everyone that OD exists sooner or later because adding more and more people, and not revealing OD does not mix. I just feel that now is the wrong time to tell everyone.

I think in the past we've denied access to a lot of people who probably deserved to be here, and I think that has split the community in two: We know our own little community, and they know theirs, and although a lot of them started out as bad posters, so did most of us here. I would disagree with letting two in now, and two later. We clearly need to make some quick changes, and one of those is to invite people who should really be in here by now. I think we should invite whoever we feel we should add, and not limit the numbers.

MadEwokHerd
11 Sep 2007, 21:38
No one has stated an objection to anyone on Paul's list. I see no reason to create a poll for those people or set a limit (in fact, I think that if we do set a limit, we're likely to forget later).

Are there any objections to waiting a little while before passing this list on to the appropriate people to grant necessary access... we're still busy dealing with the issues of The Leak (see sticky thread)

Cyclaws is a fairly sound person. He contributed news to Dream17 for a time, and he was pretty good at it. He managed to stay on top of things until things got on top of him. Shame, really.

I actually have no idea what Cyclaws' stance is on the whole OD leak thing.
I kinda thought he was against OD or whatever, but I don't really venture onto MSN or anything like that, so I wouldn't know. I'm probably wrong.

I think Wormthingy and Melon are more obvious choices, but I'm fine with Cyclaws. Akuryou is probably alright too, though I don't know if he even cares too much about the forums anymore.

12 Sep 2007, 15:36
I definitely second those three people:
Melon - Because of his awesome huge fruit BnA map (http://wmdb.org/5014).
Akuryou13 - Because we LOL'ed at him. He deserves it. ;)
Cyclaws - I took over his post over at D17, where he had admin access. So I guess he can keep a secret.
I don't really know much about Wormthingy. But if MEH thinks he is okay, go for it!

Paul, I suggest you add a poll to this thread with those four people and the top two get invited.
Although, I wouldn't have anything against inviting four people at once.
Seeing the recent depression/pessimism here in OD, I would think that a bunch of new faces could vitalize things a bit.

1. The poll isn't multiple choice
2. It's too soon after the recent events. I suggest we leave it a couple of weeks once it's truly died down.

1. The poll isn't multiple choice
Indeed.
We need a multiple choice poll!

SomePerson
12 Sep 2007, 19:47
And if it's multiple choice we could also vote in the same poll "allow top two in" or "allow all above 50% in" or something. Hopefully people wouldn't vote for both...:p

And an option "none of them" so people can can vote against all of them should they be mean and want to... Although I guess only voting for one of the aforementioned options for how many to let in would work just as well.

thomasp
12 Sep 2007, 20:32
I'll create a new poll in a couple of minutes.

I've been discussing with volcadmin, who's been helping me & AT out with the investigation of who leaked OD, and he's happy to invite people into OD once we've found out who did it - hopefully some time next week.

Double post because I'm lazy:

Vote here: http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=34124

That will be the thread I take the results from.

I just remembered someone I wanted to nominate for OD access before: Muzer (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=17207)
He's been around for more than 3 years now and is generally nice and helpful.

Another nominee by me would be [UFP]Ghost (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=33232), as he's a quite obsessed Worms fan with a distinct drive for collecting tons of wormy stuff, continuing Rastamahata's Worms Pack project.

A bit too late for now, but I'd rather see those two in OD than the ones in the current poll.
(Well, except maybe Melon for his awesome fruit BnA map.)
I hope I won't forget them next time.

Well, yes. He always seemed sensible to me.
Maybe I'm a bit biased as he was a fellow franpa-basher.

Has he done any serious, negative things recently?

First I'd like to see him stop using the forum as his personal help line.

His threads, although being his personal help line as you say, spark some of the most intelligent and serious discussion in OO when cisken1 doesn't **** them up.

He is generally pretty intelligent but has a kind of annoying typing style if you want to be nitpicky.

I have no opinion on Muzer at this time. Just don't cut back on funding.

Has he done any serious, negative things recently?IMHO, his existence is a serious, negative thing. Almost everything he posts drips with idiot.

Edit: Having reviewed his most recent handful of posts, I guess he isn't that bad, but he still rubs me the wrong way, and certainly doesn't strike me as OD material.
