View Full Version : HELP: Worm 2 Start-up Visual C++ Runtime Error

I'm a new Worm2 player but I say player tongue in cheek cos so far I haven't even been able to start the game. I've read all the threads related to C++ problems and followed the instructions to the letter but to no avail.

Can anyone help me cos I'm near to abandoning this game and going back to Battlefield 2.

So far I have performed the following:

1. Reinstalled the software x3 times
2. Launched the Frontend.exe from the Program Files/Team17 directory (no shortcut and version is showing "105").
3. The start-up options are displayed.
4. I selected quick game vs the computer
5. Dialog box showing terrain is being generated
6. Then error message displayed "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" (with the screen resolution having changed).
7. Requires Task Manager to kill the processes.

... I've even disabled SystemGuard from McAfee as the game seems to want to update the Registry dynamically each time the game is launched (landgen.exe) and McAfee picks this up each time.

Any thoughts from you Worm experts out there??

Cheers
Tony

Nuts! I've no idea why that wouldn't work from what you've written.

One idea though is to try the no-cd patch here (http://computerhead.biz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50). (You must be signed up and logged in to download, but it only takes a second.)

You need to copy the 'mission' and 'level' folders from the W2 cd into C:Team17/Worms2/Data before applying the no cd crack. This only works with legally purchased copies.

Hope this helps, post here again if not. Don't give up!

There is no CD in this case as I downloaded it from the web. In fact I've downloaded it (all 50MB) twice from different sites.

I've also downloaded the patch as suggested but:

(a) I'm not sure it's relevance if there is no CD and

(b) Once executes, other than "Water", all the "Game Files" are coming up "File Size Invalid". If I attempt to change the file location using the button as suggested (the usual MS file location dialog box being displayed) it disregards the selection (or at least appears to) with the same invalid size messages being displayed.

:( Thoughts

Eek.

Where did you download from?
It is a legal copy I guess?

Trymedia Systems, Inc. Customer Service [support@trymedia.com]

Yeap - official copy.

Just tried the whole uninstall and install process again but same again. I watched very carefully and it appears from the landgen progress (simply watching the blue bar build up) it gets about 30% thru the process before the error message is displayed. Seems to be consistent.

Hell, Trymedia. Who knows what they've done to it :/

I can only recommend buying a cd copy from the T17 store, a game shop, or second hand from somewhere. I'd advise against SoldOut too, if you have the option. I've had trouble with games from them before.

Sorry I can't help any more with this. Best of luck, I hope you get going with it soon :)

Are you sure? SoldOut have been great for me.

The only annoying thing is their damn launcher that pops up EVERY ****ING TIME you put the disc in

I only say that because I had to reformat my computer to get WA working, which now runs fine from an iso. I daren't try the CD again.. though it could have been something unrelated, I was just being extra-careful :)
