Having just watched the final of Jericho's 1st season which screened here last night, as well as having seen season 1 of Heroes and season 2 of Prison Break recently, it occurred to me that all of these dramas have a common theme. Possible spoilers may follow.

All three shows seem to have an anti-capitalist theme. In Prison Break they're up against "The Company", in Jericho it's apparent that Americans plotted the nuking of their own country to take power, and in Heroes there was the idea that it would make for a good fresh start if New York City was blown up. Are all these TV show directors left-wing and are they trying to send me some kind of subliminal message, eg. that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by the US government, or do they just get all their ideas from conspiracy theories? :D

I'm guessing most of these directors are generally more liberal in their views.

Besides, everyone loves the evil corporation trope. :p

Well, it sort of balances out Fox News.

Perhaps it's something to do with this politically correct age of the war on terror. The idea of picking a random communist or oil-bearing country and portraying it as an enemy has become rather stale, so they look for the enemy within instead.

Now that's what I love about the Australian comedy sketch show the Ronnie Johns Half Hour. They can still get away with putting Muhammad in sketches and making fun of jihad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRg2m1410I0), and yet the only complaints they get are from Christians about their Jesus sketches. I hope to rely on Australia for politically incorrect jokes for a long time yet.
