Posting this now because it's the last night I'm actually going to be able to connect my laptop to the Internet without it.

Now I want to be able to wirelessly connect my laptop to our Wanadoo Livebox at home, but it's password-protected, and my dad does not know the password. The guy at Maplin reckoned it was factory-set to prevent leeching, but we've never been told the password. The Wanadoo FAQ/guides thing is no help as it doesn't show the relevent stuff.

My laptop is a Dell using the Intel PROSet Wireless application to connect to the Internet.

Does this help (http://www.cirt.net/cgi-bin/passwd.pl?method=showven&ven=Inventel%20Wanadoo)?

Does this help (http://www.cirt.net/cgi-bin/passwd.pl?method=showven&ven=Inventel%20Wanadoo)?Not really, the password has to be between 8 and 63 characters long.

Matty reckons it might be the WEP key, though.

That kind of key will be a WEP key, yeah.

You need to connect via a cable (so that there's no need for the password), then go to the administration panel of the router (Visit a URL in your web browser, generally something like 192.168.0.1, 192.168.100.1, 192.168.0.100 - If you can't find it, then I or someone else can help you find out what it definitely is).

You'll know when it works because you'll get a different username/password box, then try a bunch of combinations (Admin as username and password, admin as username and a blank password, vice versa, try different cases for the A in admin, etc. I'm guessing it's Admin/Admin, what with bloooooopy's link.)

Once that works, hunt around in the admin panel for the place to change the WEP key, and just change it to something you can remember. That should then be it.

Again, if you get stuck or have questions, I'm sure that I or someone else (as I'm guessing you likely have other people who are easier to talk to than over a forum, say MSN or whatever) can help you.

Got it working now.

I wouldn't recommend using a WEP key if you can avoid it; WPA is much more secure.

Yes, but not everything supports WPA. I don't think the Wii or the DS support it, for instance.

Are you sure? It's pretty much industry standard now; I'd be very surprised if they didn't.

AFAIK the Wii does, the DS does not. There's a hack that enables the DS to, however.
