Hello, I am new to online play and cannot connect to my friend online. We can both join other existing games but I can't join the ones he hosts, and he can't join mine. The 40 second request just times out.

I have a Westell6100 router, but even though I found a step by step forwarding guide (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/Westell6100/Worms_Armageddon.htm) I am unable to use it because I don't know how to log in to my router and I can't click the "Configuration" button, it only brings up a drop down menu.

I am totally clueless, so any help that you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more specifics, I'll do my best to work with anyone who'd like to help me. Thank you!

Do you and your friend happen to share the same connection and, thus, the first three numbers of your IP? Because WA has some rather bizarre problems with it that nobody's been able to pinpoint the reasons for so far.

If that is the case, I'll direct a friend that's experienced the problem to this thread, but I don't believe he was able to fix it for himself.

If they are on the same connection a simple LAN connection would be the best way to go.

That site you found will probably give you all you need to know, but why can't you log in to it? Do you not know the password?

For when you get into the router, you need to forward port 17011 to your local address and then go in to Worms and in the config screen set it to force your IP to your global address.

No, I don't know the username and password to get into my router, once I get in I may be able to work it out, but I also can't click the "Configuration" button to start the process as it says. It only opens a drop down window.

The problem lies in my inability to access my router to port forward... can anyone help me with that?

a quick google search tells me:

"[...] Westell Model 6100 the default username is admin and the password is password. The default IP address for the device is 192.168.1.1. If this does not work go to start, run, type "cmd" and hit enter, then in the dos prompt type "ipconfig". Find what your default gateway is. Type in that IP address into a browser and it will bring you to the device's web interface"

The default gateway is indeed the same as the IP you gave me, but admin / password doesn't work for me. Is there a reason my router could be locked or something?

Do you own the router (did you purchase it) or is it your ISP's property?
If it's the latter, you'll have to contact your ISP.

Well, if no one set the password to something else, it should be set to the factory default. Consult your router's manual or its manufacturer's website.

Would a hard reset of the router reset the password as well? Most routers have reset buttons on the back or underside of them that you can access with a pin or something, but I don't know if it will reset passwords...

I have similar situation. My router name is AirLink WL-5460AP, don't know if it's possible.. I have internet from my brother (He lives 400meters from my home and I use antenna for my network). Router main is in his home, one near antenna on his roof and my router in my home. We have same IP, I tried this to put in my router options (All ports etc.) but wont work when I make host. I should make it on all routers from my network? If so this will not be easy. :/ Greetz.

I guess that this depends on your network configuration. If all your routers' routing tables are configured correctly for your intranet (any PC in your Intranet can connect directly to another PC in your Intranet), then you should only set up forwarding on the external router (the one connected to your ISP). If not, you will need to configure port forwarding for all routers through which you connect to the Internet. The first router should forward to the 2nd router's address on the network segment they are on, etc. until the last router should forward to your home's PC. Note that a router (but not a switch or hub) usually has two IP addresses for the two network interfaces that it connects.
