View Full Version : Need Help Playing online

I have played worms since the first one came out on a friend's Amiga. I have owned all the subsequent 2D series but in all that time I have never played online! I have been attempting to play WWP online for the past few days as I have been off work but to no avail.

I really need help with this. My PC is connected to Tiscali Broadband via a blue box (not a TARDIS, it's ADSL) plugged into a USB port. This connection is always on when I attempt this. I have dowloaded and extracted the patch (although the wwp.exe file is still at version 1.0.0.0 even after extraction, which seems strange to me!)

I then go into Worms and click to play on a Network, enter a username (I gather I do not need to register prior to this from other posts) and it gives me the option to connect to Wormnet2 (no Wormnet1?). After a double click it says "Please Wait", then after a few seconds I get "Fatal Error During Gameserver Connection, Disconneting".

Help!

I am really sorry that I am covering ground that is much discussed on this forum, but after a few days of browsing the topics, I still do not understand what is going wrong and how to fix it. I have read things about firewalls, and proxy servers and other things that I didn't understand! I need help before I'm well enough to go back to work!

Many Thanks in advance...

When I extract the patch it doesn't give me the option to overwrite files. It just says it has finished.

I tried an experiemtn by extracting to a new location number so I could see what the version number is and it is still 1.0.0.0 on the actual .exe file. Surely this should be a higher number if it is a patch?

Right clicking on the patched *.exe to see it's file version will show that it is 1.0.0.0, even though it is not. Silly Team17 forgot to update this. You can accurately determine if you have successfully patched the game by hovering your mouse cursor over the "Worms World Party" logo at the top of the screen in the main menu. Text should appear at the bottom of the screen saying that it is V1.01.

As for your problem: I don't really have a detailed answer that I can give you. I had this same problem too a long time ago. I was able to surf the web using an internet browser but I was unable to connect to WormNet2 when I clicked on the link. This is odd because both use the HTTP protocol and send data across port 80. So if one works, the other should too.

I recall the source of my problem was that my computer's network settings were incorrect. I mixed up an IP address or something like that. I suggest you look at yours and confirm that they are correct.

Right, I've just checked the version number as you suggested and it is Version 1.01. So the patch was successful and I can rule this out as a problem- thanks for that!!

I suspect you could be right about the Network settings being wrong as I am also trying to network it with another PC via a crossover cable. A friend has looked at this and seems to think there is something strange going on with the Network settings. How do I check the IP settings and how do I know if they're correct?

Goto Control Panel --> Network Connections and select the LAN you are connected to. Here you should be able to see your IP address, host's IP address, subnet mask, etc. Make sure these are all setup correctly.

Goto the Network Connections of the host computer you are connected to the internet by, to see what these settings should be. Make sure everything matches and is correct.

Thanks for you replies Etho,

I think I've confused matters by mentioning my Networking problems. It is the host PC that I am using Worms on and this is the one with the net connection. The other PC is a Carillon which is only for my Recording business and not for games. I thought it might be cool to let it share my home PC's internet connection and to be able to back up files onto my home PC etc.

Have you any more ideas? Do I need to enter an IP address into the Player information under configuration or should it be able to work without this?
