View Full Version : Letting the Clock Run Down

I was playing a ranked game the other day, and a player with only 1 worm left promptly teleported to a save area then let the clock go to zero for every subsequent turn before making whatever move he wanted to do, usually digging.
Is this fair game? Considering we only get 15 mins for ranked games, I strongly disagree with this strategy. The guy laughed it off when I questioned his motives even when I explained to him he was ruining it a bit for the others.
Opinions please.......

Well, the timer is there for a reason.. and it's the player's choice to do that.

Usually I don't see players do that until sudden death is near, and in that regard I think it can just be a smart strategy.

Certainly annoying, especially if you know it'll give him the advantage or win... but again, that's his time he can use for whatever he wants, I say.

Thats his own time to do what he wants with it. I agree it can be annoying but I have done it myself. Not through choice but due to the fact that all the rest of my worms were taken out early.

Im hardly going to try and take out all the rest of the worms on the map with my one. Its a strategy game and b doing what you have said you seen that guy do, sure its frustrating but it is not cheating by any means and he is using the full 45 seconds to try and strategicly improve his position in the game.

just grin and bear it my friend :-/

Anyone for a challenge - Kingdangler1

I'd rather do this than get knocked out early... I know it can be annoying for other people but we play ranked games to win. I reckon if you want less win-at-all-costs type strategies from your opponents then Player matches are probably the place to go.

If its just you and the other bloke you could try teleporting your worms into their hidey-hole, depending on how many you've got, how much damage yours and their worms have and how many teleports you've got you can often invade their safety place and either chase them away or take out the one remaining worm.

Wait until they've used all their teleports and blow torches and then if they're daft enough not to leave an escape route, teleport in blocking their exit. They won't be able to get past you, if they kill you they'll kill themselves. Only works if you have superior numbers though.

I also like to use the Kami for this. For a hide hole that's too far to torch into or get splash from a zook or something, a quick Kami often elicits howls of derision from the opponent as it has quite a long reach.

Nothing wrong with that. The worm must survive. At least they can talk while they are running down the clock or move around, do something more entertaining than what the AI used to do while it was thinking.

You mean, they sit there running out the clock while treating the other players to a verse of Chelsea Dagger?

"My turn will follow in a few moments. Please hold. In the meantime, here's some music. Well you must be a girl with shoes like that..."

I think that would just annoy people even more.

Yeah, but it pretty much spells 'instant win'!

I read this thread a couple days ago. Either people just started doing this or I just started noticing (more likely), but certain people will always take the full time for their turn starting at like 8-10 minutes left. That is just lame. If you go and hide properly, they will likely not come after you...and if they don't, then they'll kill themselves.

Personally, at 8 minutes, if you start wasting time, I will drop all desire I have to win the game and put all my efforts into making sure that you die first. In fact, the most recent time I came across this, I did that very thing.

Most of the games where people play 'dirty' like this, or vocally try to pit two teams against each other, I find that the teams stop killing each other and go for him/her. Thats what I do, and it works well to weed out the dirty players.

playing like that is a little camp.
its only worms , a bit of fun , people who play negatively are the losers.
play attacking worms, thats the way to do it.
Charge !!!!!!!!!!!!

I just realised how long it's been since we've had a proper "lightside vs. darkside" thread.
