It's time for some more olympics, don't you think?

You know the drill! Worm Olympics is a large collection of tourneys to be hosted in a very short time during July and August.
Previous editions have been a big success and we hope to make this one just as successful or (dare I say it?) even more successful!

Tourneys of any scheme are accepted! Just don't bother informing us if someone else has to host them for you :wink:

The old Olympics site is still up, but it will be updated as soon as possible.
You can send me a PM here, message me on msn/aim/icq or mIRC (I'm in #worms and #fb, PMs beep me and so does writing down DarkOne). Posting in this thread will help too :)
When signing up a tourney, mention the date including time (GMT, please: www.timezoneconverter.com ) and be sure to upload the scheme you wish to use for that tournament. Also inform us how long you think the tourney will last. Note: it's not a problem if the tourney doesn't last as long as you think. But if the tourney lasts longer and it interferes with other tourneys, that'll just be a shame (and it's how one tourney never got played!)

Note to the people hosting the tourneys.
When taking signups, be sure to ask for the clan and country of each player.
Player names should not include a tag and the players are asked to use one nickname during the worm olympics.
It's fine by me if you use an alias during a tourney, as long as the moderator knows who you really and has your true name is in the results.

Results of tourneys will NOT be posted if the results are not complete. Even if one match result is unknown, the tourney will not be posted and no medals will be handed out.
If there are 4 people in the semi finals, the losers of the semis will have to play each other for the bronze medal.

Moderators are free to handle an odd amount of players in whatever way they choose, as long as there is no more than 1 freebie in each round.

What you guys about large maps on tournaments? This update should be soon. Hurrel make pack from all big maps. We need just wait :cool:

as for large maps:
First off, the next beta is not yet out and therefore most people will not be used to playing on larger maps, so that's one reason to say no.
On top of that, they tend to make games last longer, which is not problem at all normally, but in tournaments, it just ensures people will have to wait long.

On that note, it might be wise to set an sd time/ lower sd time for games like forts. In the previous edition, one 2v2 fort tourney had such long games only 2 rounds were finished after a few hours and it never got finished. Would be nice to avoid such events this time around :)

As in the previous 2 editions, all players are requested to send all their replays to us, so we can add them to the site.

When can players start signing up?

The players have to sign up during the tournaments themselves.
You don't have to sign up an account or anything on the site, just show up when the tourney is set to start and let the moderator of that tourney know you wish to play :)
Make sure you let him/her know which clan you're in and from which country you are

DarkOne: What's your opinion regarding big maps (shopper) in Worm Olympics tournaments? I think my big shopper is fine for tournaments, considering 30-second turns work well for it. In general, if a map is okay for a 30-second turn time, it should be allowed in shopper tournaments.

@ Jerry: I'm not the boss of anyone hosting tourneys or playing games, but I would advice against it. Not because there's only a limited amount of maps, but larger maps mean longer games.
Tournaments already last long in some cases. Why would we want to make this time even longer?

Blitza, if you want tourneys in your time zone, there's another way to solve them: host one yourself.

You dont want to put yourselves out by extending the time to 21:00 GMT.

I dont understand why it is such a big deal to wait 2 more hours, so it can suit everyone.

By not putting yourselves out, you are putting others out by much further measures. For example..

19:00 GMT = 5:00am for me, that is very inconvenient for me, as i would be sleeping.
However if you guys change the time slot to 21:00 GMT (which is only 2 hours) it would suit me and everyone.

Therefore you guys only have to wait for 2 more hours and i can actually play the tourneys, along with everyone else in australia or my region. Instead of you guys not waiting 2 hours and me not being able to play.

Please stop being selfish and DO NOT reply with "Host your own". Because i can see why all the tourneys cant be hosted at 21:00 GMT

If a tourney was expected to last four hours for example, and began at 19:00, I would be happy to play it, as that would end it 23:00, my usual "bed-time".
If it began at 21:00, it would end at 01:00, which would be far too late for me and I would be unable to participate. That's just me.

I think most of the other countries in Europe are ahead of my time, and so it would be even later for them. I think, though I could be wrong, this game is most popular in Europe? For some an extension of two hours could push it right into the middle of their usual sleeping pattern, and take up half of it. I don't feel that's fair to ask when they're being kind enough to host a tourney anyway.

Instead of cutting the majorities sleep by two hours, why not stop crying about it, go to bed early and get up an hour or two earlier?
Or, why DON'T you host your own? Though i've a feeling a tourney hosted at that time would be less popular, I can see why you'd want to try it. So why not?

My point here is that as you are actually the only person i've seen complaining compared to the many who participate with no problems, the time zone must be suited for the majority. It can't possibly be right for WA'ers all around Earth at the same time, but it's sensible to make it fit the most.

If you want help with a tourney that is suitable for you, calling everyone else selfish and ignoring their posts that they took time to write is not the way to do it.
On the other hand, if you just want somewhere to cry because you're in a minority timezone and too lazy to host your own tourney (and I now suspect this is the case), I guess this is the place for it! And who am I to stop you? Happy ranting. :)

Then you start the processing part! You let the entire post process in your brain. Be careful not to throw some words around now!

First there's the spell check. Which I guess is the only step you've gotten right so far.

Blitza, its a 100 to 1 situation, 99% people are 100% happy with the times and only 1% (you) is not, you want to change it to 99% of people playing tourneys to not be 100% happy so you yourself and only youcan be 100% happy.

Can I make a bit of a suggestion? I was in the wxw tourney yesterday and I found myself at a major disadvantage not being able to host. In the semi-finals my host n opponent prodused a rather unusual map on which he obviously had a great deal of practice, and I didn't. It took me 10 turns before I got the hang of the thing and was able to get my attacks done properly, while he had that from turn 1.

Is there anything we can do to even the field there a little? Maybe have tourney maps or have a rule that states both players have to agree on the map?

Some keep saying to me that i choosed a stupid scheme etcetc.
Well, i just not wanted to make a NORMAL w2w Turney, wheres everything like in fb or some where else... i wanted to make it a bit more funny, with nana upgrad etc, coz all these turneys is just for fun. COMPLETE W:A is just for fun! And i think there will be other NORMAL w2w turneys where is a NORMAL Shoppa scheme. So i just wanted to make a funny turney with a funny scheme.
But if ppl saying to me that all this scheme sux, and insulting me coz of it, they should go back for fb and playing his clanmatches. /me wishes hf

If your opponent refuses to change the map, you should refuse to play anyway and just inform the moderator.

I played final with him im pretty sure he didnt touch 1 wall during game and he didnt skip and made his attack on me....

And that game with Face ( they did not agree (BOTH) with using nanas in game and Crash used them TWICE ) it was really pathetic!

I usually go to work at GMT 5, and i usually arrive to home at GMT 16. My train can be late, so i must host it at 17.
Usually, in the night games are so many players to play, so i think the 17 is good.
Else... Nobody want to host just a very little group of WA players.... Dark has a lot of WA site, so he has a lot of 'work'... Billy tried to host... He has been violated...
So... we search new hosts to stage tourneys! :)
