You may pretend this isn't true, but multiplayer over Xbox live just doesn't work for a significant number of people (players getting disconnected, crashes, etc). Any news when if ever this will get fixed?

Basically I feel like I have bought a defective product, and that Team 17 has stolen my money. I can't play online and that's why I bought it. They are theives.

When they then have the nerve to boast about their 10X profit on development costs (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=13983) that makes me sick to my stomach.

I certainly wouldn't call it broken, it works great for the majority of players. Some disconnection problems could just be the host quiting or a problem with someones ISP/network but that can happen in most other games aswell. Perhaps your network configuration is causing some trouble with worms. Do the XBOX network test and see what it says for "NAT". You want it to be "open" but it may say "strict" or "moderate". There are still some network and other related bugs but for most, it's very playable.

Yes, as wormetti said, it's probably not Worms XBLA or Team17 that have done it! I have never had a problem with Worms XBLA online, not even the treacherous 4-player bug (before the update) affected me! I always used the ethernet cable, from the console to my pc.

Didn't you know? One in every ten copies of Worms XBLA is purposely faulty.

LOL.
I love your kind. THIEVES. LOL.
OMG DEY BE STEELING ALL UR MONEYZ! D:

Go fetch a brain dude. All games have online play issues, they've allways had.
Some games have more issues than others, but hardly has anything to do with the developers of the game most of the time. It's usually ISP/router/hardware/server related.

If Worms online doesn't work for a lot of people, including game reviewers, and other online games work fine for these people, then there's something wrong with worms.

Here's a quote from one review:

"But the biggest problem with multiplayer by far is just how hit-and-miss it can be to play over Xbox Live. Local games seem to be totally fine, but once you go online the problems range from horrible lag, dropouts at the start or even mid-game, glitchy combat results, and even having all your team show up as a totally different squad. Given that one of the many excuses for the wayward Worms release was always QA and certification, it boggles the mind how a game can ship with quite so many glaring problems in online play."

(from http://www.xboxworld.com.au/games/xbox-360/worms/review.htm)

if you deluded fanboys think this is a good version of Worms, you are sorely mistaken. btw I love Worms and was looking forward to it on xbla, but it should have been better made.

knulla isn't the only one. since the update i'm having problems with games. i'll join a ranked game, see me and the host. he'll tell me they got 4 even though i only see 2 and then launch....right at startup i get the game not in session and end up with bad player rep from everyone for quitting. at least before the update i could circumvent this problem by asking the host to wait 30 seconds to start...no longer. i think i'm the only one having this problem though as no one else i've asked on live can relate.

knulla. To quote the final thoughts summary of that review:

"Worms for the Xbox Live Arcade is a faithful adaptation of the popular series, and while it isn't without its faults, is some of the most fun you can have in multiplayer on Live. The lack of variety in terms of weapons, backgrounds, scenery and voice-packs is disappointing, but given the arbitrary 50MB limit at the time, hardly surprising, and provided any extra content is reasonably priced on the Marketplace, shouldn't be a major source of sourness.

With a patch in the works to tidy up the multiplayer maladies, Worms should have a place in any self-respecting Arcade collection."

That's not bad, I think. I can assure you that the multiplayer side has worked fine for hundreds of thousands of game sessions. The bugs that were exposed by such huge saturation testing have been patched as quickly as possible.

I think you'll find that most of the forum members here are far from "fanboys". The T17 forum is one of the most outspoken gaming forums I know of.

There have been countless thousands of games online - there were some issues initially and the vast majority have been fixed in a recent update. Microsoft did extensive testing.

In terms of that Gamasutra article, it was taken a little out of context - the actual talk was during a forward looking discussion exploring ways & opportunities in which independent developers could approach the market in different ways. XBLA self-publishing route was discussed as an example - it certainly wasn't a bragging exercise even if you choose to read it that way. For many years, indy devs have gotten something like 10-20% net of a game's retail price as income (to cover development then profit), XBLA cuts out retail, distribution and in some cases, publishers too.

As an aside to that, the consumer wins with a lower retail price too, but of course that part of the discussion wasn't really reported.
