Hi, until last night, I'd been able to play worms fine. I ran into the pulsing static problem as stated before here, but I did away with the ambient noise and all was fine.

anyway, back to the problem at hand...

I last night tried to open worms to get some games in, and as the screen went blank and I expected to see 'TEAM 17', I got confronted with a nice little windows error message saying:

"Worms Armageddon has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

GREAT!

I was able to play the game fine before I'd had dinner that same day, and nothing had been changed since. a restart of my machine didn't help either.

I'm running the most up to date version of the game with patches etc., etc. I have the game CD in the drive about 90% of the time, and I can't figure why it's suddenly arsed up on me?

The CD version is the sold out one, it's SOV 2.5

PC specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
1.83 GHz
512MB RAM
XP Home Version 2002 SP2
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

My worms is running from C: drive, but I have other HDD installed.

please help as my worms fix needs to be soon  !!

Try closing any programs, services, processes etc. that aren't required for running the game.

Nah that didn't help.

Do you reckon I should try and re-install?

I just remembered... This computer has five users set up on it. I installed worms on the main account that I go on only for installing progs etc., etc. and so I usually play worms on that account, due to possible profile issues.

having said that, I was drunk the other night and got home and went onto my own profile and had to go into C:drive to get a shortcut onto my desktop to link to the WA game. This worked, but because of the profile issues, the ambient noise was back on, i got the static, and being drunk it annoyed me so I just closed turned of had a fag then went to bed :D

now I'm thinking that this has somehow affected the game entirely, thus leading me to the conclusion I should re-install. Sorry, this whole post was pretty much a train of thought.

do you think this will help me? if not, more ideas would be greedily consumed

edit: I just tried to see if I could download and watch a recorded match, and it worked fine

Just a thought: I get those "WA needs to close" errors far more frequently when using the CD as opposed to an ISO image. If you get Alcohol 52% (freeware) you can crate an image of your CD, and mount it in a virtual drive quite easily. Might help for you as it did for me. :)

This probably won't work, but it's worth a try, right-click on your WA shortcut that you use most, go to properties, and in the "Target" box add /NOINTRO OUTSIDE the quotes, so it looks like this:
"C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\WA.EXE" /NOINTRO

Hmmm... This happens to me. It tends to seize whilst loading a game though. Which is irritating on WormNET. I will edit this post/post here after I try it out post-re-installation.

Well. Works now. Maybe it was my User folder... I'll put it back in and try again.

IT WAS my User file. Now I have to start over!

Well, I just went through and deleted every file in order. Turns out it was an Invader Zim soundboard that caused it for me.

I tried to reinstall the whole game and then put on the patch and update etc., but then I got invalid or illegal operation or something, looked that up but when I went to recreate the message to see what exactly it said, it had changed to a different error!

it now says:
__
wa.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00406942" referenced memory at 0x6352156e". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program
__

:( please help

download and try running memtest to check if your memory in the computer is fine.

I think if you have dodgy memory, not being able to play Worms is the least of your computer worries. Those error messages can pop up when the memory is fine.

When you reinstalled, did you run cybershadow's installer program INSTEAD of normal patches and updates?

Edit: after noticing that the game did work earlier that same day and that you have a SOLD OUT version, I'm guessing the beta patch is all you need.
