How comes the yellow team nine out of ten times allows gets two-three worms closest to the edge (and having other worms play before them), so they basicly only have two worms to play with?

The one time it doesn't happen, three of yellow worms get placed togheter and killed at once, as it always is the other worms first player closest to team. One dynamite by the first (red team) and then what ever you want with the next team (blue team).

Seriously, the yellow team is always underpowerd in starting posistions.

I whish I was, but seriously, yellow team gets the worst posistions.

They get the worst positions because they are placed last in the random order sequence.

Add to that the simple fact that, because they go last, any early clustering or edge placement is more likely to be exploited by the reds, blues and greens. A cluster of reds or a red near the edge can easily be solved when red goes first by a bit of positional play, but yellow gets less chance to do this. Psychologically you're therefore less likely to notice a cluster of reds, because it rarely leads to such a massive disadvantage.

the order in which teams go is random

That's a bit weird.

Why is it weird? Random is better than red (the host) always going first. Ideally everyone should get a go at being first but ranked games are only one round and that's long enough for most people.

All teams can have worms placed near edges, I think it's mostly luck. Can someone from Team17 confirm if yellow actually has more chance of a bad position?

Is it still the RBGY cycle, though? (I.e. if green went first, it'd be green-yellow-red-blue-green-yellow-red-blue-green...)

Yes, it cycles like that.

I don't know about any particular color getting the shaft in worm placement, but I do know this --- it's not uncommon for me to spawn with 3 worms placed right on the edge of things. It seems like it's just a random roll, but I think it would be worthwhile to add some checks and balances on top of that random placement to try to avoid that situation.
